As for me I'm waiting, and I'll be waiting a long time. I want a 7" tablet and I want an iOS device with store - no contract, no phone.

Android 3 can't come fast enough. If Steve deems 7" as a nonmarket I'll happily go elsewhere. Not bitter, just not in the right demographic for Apple on this one.

I am probably going an Android 5" MID for portable use. I see 7" as neither small enough for portable use, nor big enough for home use.

Apple isn't know for filling every niche, so I figure 5"-7" will have to be Android.

Couldn't it be that Apple will be releasing 2 sizes, a 7 inch and a 9,7 inch?

I would stick to the 9,7 though

Jobs has proclaimed the the 7" as a something Apple tested but does not believe in. Unlike other such comments from Steve like no one reads anymore before the iBookstore, I believe him on this one. Apple will never sell a 7" iPad.

Nope. 7" is really not an optimal size, too big to really be portable, too small for reading PDFs and web pages at full size.

That and Jobs basically said no way to 7" recently. He could change his mind someday, but you can be guaranteed it isn't coming this year.

I still think Apple will probably go for a slightly higher resolution screen--1280x768--on the 2G iPad.

Not only will it improve text readability, but 1280x768 allows for native display of 720p high-definition video, which has a resolution of 1280x720. This makes it compatible with the 720p HD videos downloaded through the iTunes Store.

Yeah, 7 inch seems too small. I'd be far more surprised to see a smaller iPad than I would to see a bigger one. In fact, a bigger iPad could make a lot of sense.

The current size is great though. The same screen with a smaller bezel would be cool. Personally, I love my iPad so much that I'll happily shell out for a new one next year and give this one to my lady.

I only want it to have at least 512MB of ram. I don't think I will be let down but geez... you never know these days, right?

Bigger would definitely work for me. 11" screen with something like 1200x900 resolution.

That would be enough to view PDFs full screen.

But it is too soon for them to add another resolution. This time it will be the same size/resolution.

Apple won't want to fragment developers, so while I'd love to see slightly higher resolution, it probably won't happen.

However, if Apple were to bump the resolution, I think 1280 x 800 would be perfect - specifically - as you mention - for HD movie playback.

My guesses for iPad 2:

Either dual a4 processors or a new cortex a9 based design - 1.5 ghz and 512 - or 1024 Meg of ram.

iOS 4.2 has support for grand central dispatch - so I think this is a good possibility.

A front facing camera is long overdue - rear camera? I guess they need to add it, but the utility on such a large device is questionable.

Slightly higher resolution - 1280 x 768 or 1280 x 800

I'd love to see a SD card slot.

A 7" companion device - call it an iPad mini - similar specs as the iPad 2 - perhaps slightly slower CPU and same screen resolution as iPad 1.0

What CDMA carriers exist besides Verizon?

Look at the world map of CDMA subscribers here.

Just the ones in North America alone could easily become 1/3 of world iPad/iPhone sales.

(Many people have a naive belief that billions of GSM dumbphone users automatically translate into billions of GSM smartphone users who can pay for data plans. Actual sales results have been quite different, especially in poor countries.)

To me I think it would be silly not to have the new one in time for Christmas. Previous owners and new owners would be in lines across the country to get the new one
If it is to hold all these new features. But maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part :) not so patiently waiting for iPad 2, but waiting nonetheless

Said the guy who is questioning iPad in his sig while showing of his wonderful Windows PC specs...

You sir are genius! :D

i have to quote "troll" sry filter using guys :)

he is just saying why he doesnt want ipad with arguments and i am with him in this one. I want nothing more than iPad for light web browsing, photos etc, but i just cant justify iPad for this price and features too. I am waiting for v2 and I hope you guys can be a bit more open-minded.

Nephilim if you were moron in other threads so be it, i am commenting this one

Oh great!

I have another fan on MR forums \o/

I never in my life spent money on something that I do NOT need or on something that just has some fancy logo embedded on itself... Screw you consumer society! :D

iPad, in its current shape and form, is text book example of product like that.

Here is hoping that SJ will eventually pull finger out of his skinny back part and provide product suitable for rest of the world out of his herd of iSheep minions...

I agree and look forward to better text readability. My fiance's kindle is better for longer sessions atm.

For people who are interested in what's going on beyond Apple's walled garden - have a look at this video!

Kind of fresh from the press and it's showing what is most likely going to be Samsung Galaxy Tab 2! (between everything else)

Check out quality of that screens :)

EDIT:

Another video worth watching:

For open minded people only! So be careful... ;)

EDIT2:

And here is what Gameloft did for Galaxy Tab

Makes me want to buy it...

EDIT3:

And if you really want to piss yourself laughing at worst German accent you ever heard in your life watch this video which compares Galaxy Tab to iPad:

Samsung predicts they will be selling 10 million units of their 7 inch pad in the first year. There are logically three possibilities:

1. Samsung sells nowhere near that number.
2. Samsung sells 10 million and Apple does nothing about it because Steve Jobs said "nobody will buy 7 inch pads".
3. Samsung sells well until Apple releases their long prepared 7 inch iPad.

(2) is the one that I'd say is impossible. (1) and (3) are possible.

Apple ignores niches all the time. The vast majority of desktop computers sold are mid-towers. Apple doesn't even build one.

As far as Samsung, they are pushing the Tab out everywhere, advertising like mad and they have the anti-Apple market pretty much to themselves, so they will probably do OK until other Android players start to release their tablets. But leaks are saying they aren't close to meeting Samsungs expectations.

Beyond all other features...

I wish Apple would offer a 7inch ipad size option on top of the 9.7 like they do with the macbook line. Thats the main reason i didn't buy a first gen...couldn't manage to fit it in at least a back pocket. I hate having to carry bags.

Sprint? (not sure)

Chinese networks.

CDMA is not as popular as GSM but is important for the US and Chinese market.

CDMA in China has nothing to do with CDMA2000 used in the United States; just because they're both 'CDMA' doesn't mean they're compatible - heck, XT Network in New Zealand is W-CDMA but it has NOTHING in common with CDMA2000. In China the underlying technology is still UMTS but on top they use TD-SCDMA which is comparable to W-CDMA and thus have no relationship with CDMA2000.

I reckon a 13 inch iPad would be great provided they made it the same weight and even thinner. I think this would be great as a companion to the iPad for those who are waiting for a 13 inch touch screen device. I feel that this would be especially useful to university students who need to carry textbooks but instead could carry the iPad:D

A product like what?
In reference to 1. then you are fully justified to say that. It's your opinion.
In reference to 2. Utter rubbish.

I'll tell you what iPad in its current form for me is...
It's the single greatest teaching tool I have ever used. It was worth every single cent I spent on it and I can even claim it as teaching expenses on my tax come next year. Add to the fact that I also use it for watching videos during my extensive travels - oh, my wife love's it for web browsing and games too.
