Yeah Gingerbread is a must for Android tablets. I heard Samsung didn't want to wait for it though :p

Gingy is 2.3

Honeycomb is 3.0

3.0 is the one to go for really but Sam and others couldn't wait to jump into the market so they moded Froyo and off they went - hehe :)

I played with Galaxy Tab the other day and quite frankly it is FAR from being bad... In fact, it suited my needs MUCH more than iPad... Obviously, I didn't spend much time with it so it is hard to say if it is exactly 'perfect' or not but since I don't trust V1 products I am positive that there must be something not quite right with it...

What bad things exactly did you hear about it? Just curious...

I hope we get a higher resolution screen too; That's the only thing that will cause me to upgrade.

I really don't get this call for a higher resolution screen. 1024 x 768 is as many pixels as the 17" monitors of less than a couple of years ago, squeezed into roughly half the dimensions, this for a device which is held at arms length.

The display is beautiful, it's one of the best things about the iPad along with the incredibly battery life. People are always commenting how great the display looks - it's a pleasure showing clients photos on screen at the end of a days shoot.

Better screen and more storage ... then I'll buy v2 :D

The screen is beautiful, 32 gigs is plenty - most laptops didn't have that a few years ago and now 32gig in this form factor - mine is nowhere near full. This isn't an iPod, it's for files and apps - most files are less than one to two meg and apps seem to very very small storage footprint. Sure, 64 gig would be even better - even 128 - but 32 is more than adequate for the average user.

Ah right, Homeycomb, thats what i meant haha :p Well i heard that the screen is a bit disappointing, especially given the price of the unit. I have also heard of problems with the responsiveness (especially when using the browser) of the device and that animations are jerky on it. And that the colours are washed out an this is especially apparent when watching videos on it.

And I wouldn't expect anything different from you!

I have a feeling it will also take on a different form factory, more along the lines of the iP4.

Price is crazy - probably the main (and perhaps the only!) reason that stopped me buying it straight away...

Screen is very good and animations (at least what I saw) looked smooth...

Haven't tested videos :s

In any case - it is defo worth hanging on for few more months either for V2 or similar plop. Not to mention that next wave of devices will most probably feature this goodness:

.

If 18 months ago (less than a couple of years) you were using a 17" monitor running at 1024x768 then you really did need to catch up badly

I've been using a 20" screen running 1600x1200 for probably the last 4 years if not more.

I was running the res you speak of probably around 15 years ago.
when I installed Windows 95 (to take over from the 3.11 I was using) I'm certain I was running at least a 1024x768 screen res.

Why always this focus on thinner? I can understand lighter, but a couple of mm's arent going to change the form factor and ease of use of the current model much. So why go trough all the trouble (and extra cost on the ipad) to, create something thinner?

Bruce (who knows everything that's going on inside Apple) told his cousin who told a friend who told me, that Apple's long term plan is to thinner and thinner until they can come out with the iPaper.

This is a fact because Bruce said so.

It is an interesting topic for debate.

Is the iPad fast enough for anything that it's designed for.

So, do you keep it the same power it is now (as it does it's job fine) and keep making it thinner and lighter, keeping it the same speed and roughly the same spec.

Or do you use the current size and weight as the point it will stay for the next decade and keep pumping more speed/power/battery life into the current format?

To be honest, I think I'd prefer more of the latter.

It's big enough for two cameras on one side. 3D home movies might catch on.

I was gonna say, make the next device 3D. The television market is diving head over heels into 3D so Apple should capitalize the market and make the worlds first and largest 3D computing tablet.

However, let's sit back and imagine for a sec.... The huge price tag such a device will have.

Uhm, the price for 3d products increases quadratic with the size of the screen, for mobile devices it ain't that hard to make a 3d device. And with the iPad, 3d video shooting should be a piece of cake (2 camera's on the back with about 6cm in between)

Sorry man...

I had my money ready to give to Steve but he designed something which is almost exact opposite to my needs...
Which would be a laptop right? Guess what? You can buy a laptop right now.

I had a MBP and I got rid of it because I fought that I really didn't need a full-fledged computer and the only thing holding back my usage on the iPhone was the small screen.

I have an iMac at home when I need to do more serious work. I also have a work laptop for work so my iPad comes with me on business trips and holidays for games, movies, TV shows and surfing the internet.

I think have just convinced yourself that the iPad does not meet your needs because the iPad is only limited by the imagination of third party devs. Your dream android device is also not running a desktop OS so I don't see what that gains you except for a lack or native apps designed for the tablet form factor and a lack of apps period for Android as a whole.

I can take along my Apple wireless keyboard if I want a physical keyboard to type on and If I really wanted, I could install a tool from Cydia to use a blutooth mouse as well.

If I really wanted, I could install one of those remote access servers on my mac and access my mac from my iPad from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

Yeah!

But you should just skip iPad 2. I mean, iPad 3 has more battery life, extra cameras, a better screen, and the processor is 20% faster.

But you're a sucker if you buy iPad 3.

The iPad 4 will be even faster, lighter, and runs on a new type of power system that hasn't been discovered yet.

But if you buy that, you're stupid.

The flexible screen on the iPad 5 let's you roll it up when you're not using it and stick it in a jacket pocket.

I pity the fools that fell for that, when the iPad 6's super 3D projection screen scales from 3" to 6 feet, and the whole thing fits in the size of a ball-point pen.

And any idiot that bought this iPad 6 will miss out on the iPad 7's direct neural interface...

LOL, my favorite post of this discussion!

I think we simply have completely different needs...

You said you had MBP and that you got rid of it...

Well, I have MBP and wouldn't get rid of it for anything! It is almost 4 years old and it still performs beautifully - love it!

I listed my portable / mobile device needs on previous page and iPad doesn't meet single one, while at the same time, Galaxy Tab is almost there, super close in fact...

Same goes with iPhone - although I respect that device much more than iPad but it still doesn't do half of what I want it to do while HTC Desire HD, or even cheaper Galaxy S coupled with Android 2.2+ suites my needs perfectly...

I would LOVE to be sticking with Apple with mobile / portable devices but products are way too crippled for my needs :s

I am still with Mac and OS X though and can't see myself switching to anything else any time soon :)

What CDMA carriers exist besides Verizon?

KDDI/au in Japan for example; not everyone has luck with our current single iPhone/iPad carrier here in Japan; in countryside the signal become weak due to missing coverage. I would be happy to switch and could also convince my wife to get an iPhone

Is there any chance of a plug-in webcam for the current ipad? Would love to have facetime now on my ipad with a camera I can swivel around and position how i want.
Do you think apple just wouldn't allow this so that ipad 2
has a selling point or is it a hardware/software problem?

I think there is a fetish among certain apple excecutives.
I totally agree. Also if they make them thinner, the current cases won't work so we have to wait for a whole new set of cases to choose from when we just got a really good selection for V1.

Don't feed the troll. I added that guy to my ignore list almost since the iPad was released, he endlessly trolls iPad stories.

If you must feed to troll, please don't quote him, because that exposes troll comment to those of us enjoying the benefits of the ignore filters.

Said the guy who is questioning iPad in his sig while showing of his wonderful Windows PC specs...

You sir are genius! :D

As for me I'm waiting, and I'll be waiting a long time. I want a 7" tablet and I want an iOS device with store - no contract, no phone.

Android 3 can't come fast enough. If Steve deems 7" as a nonmarket I'll happily go elsewhere. Not bitter, just not in the right demographic for Apple on this one.
