It's disheartening to see people just dismiss all of the issues with the IOS7 design.

It would be more useful to be constructive - point out specific examples of where the new design isn't working, suggest improvements, etc.

It is not constructive or mature to call everybody with a criticism a "troll".

It is also not helpful to sit back and say "oh, this will all be fixed by GM"; if you don't want to engage in the discussion, that's fine - you don't have to. From my experience with iOS betas (basically all of them), there are lots and lots of serious UI bugs that don't get fixed for ages even after GM - the repeat/shuffle icons are a good example. Sometimes people like to vent about niggly little things that annoy them (I know I certainly do!)

Discussion is good and healthy; nobody but the site's owners have the right to preclude discussion on this board. So please do not dismiss those with points to make.

For me the problem is in the way some people present it. To start a thread calling it junk doesn't seem very constructive to me. Especially using an example that clearly appears to be a bug and not a specific design choice. What would be more constructive is reporting these things to Apple. And since so many non developers seem to be running iOS 7 here its hard to know if legitimate complaints arw getting reported back to Apple or not.

In this case I think beta can be used as an excuse because Apple literally changed every pixel iOS 7 in a matter of 6-7 months. Some of the features might have been in the works (didn't make it in to iOS 6) but the UI certainly wasn't. Was Apple too ambitious trying to do all that in such a short amount of time? Perhaps. But obviously they were willing to take the risk of major change that isn't perfect but gets improved over time. That's why I've said I hope Apple iterates more frequently now instead of having to wait a whole year for changes.

Because UI elements are so simple (text, with only differentiation by text size, boldness or colour), it becomes confusing what is selected.

For example, blue text is always a button / something tappable in iOS7. But in the Top Charts on the App Store, the selector between Paid and Top Grossing is the wrong way round.

The 'Free' column has black text; but in the left hand column you would expect it to be showing 'Paid', as it's black, and be able to tap on 'Top Grossing' (as it's blue). But you can't. It's the other way around: you're current viewing 'Top Grossing' and can tap on 'Paid'.

It does make sense by it's self -- which ever is highlighted blue is the one you're currently viewing; but, because a 'button' in iOS 7 is blue text, you expect to be able to tap Top Grossing.

They'll fix this. The screenshot you posted appears to be from an iPad. The Top Charts interface on the iPhone is much better:

I'm sure they'll fix the iPad interface in good time.

You guys (trolls) are not being constructive.

Is that so? Do you really think that thread starter was constructive? 3rd party app, not optimized for the os. the issue isn't even that bad. Didn't bother me at all.

well then my opinion is proof!

Hahahhahhaahahaha!

I'm crying. This is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

Your opinion is subjective and doesn't mean jack ****, honey. Nobody cares. Go to an android if you hate it that much and stop bothering the big boys:rolleyes:

lol you people. Do any of you even have any experience software development and development cycles? 2 months away from the release of a major OS means we are already past feature freeze (and the UI is, naturally, a 'feature' in this regard). There is NO way we are going to see any significant changes. None! All we are seeing now is slight changes to fix the really major usability issues.

For example - the thin typeface was horrible from a usability standpoint - poor contrast mixed with a light typeface means it's nearly unreadable for people with imperfect eyesight, or even people WITH perfect eyesight in improper lighting conditions (recall that iOS devices are often used in direct sunlight and have glossy screens!)

IT'S A BETA!!!!!! is a stupid argument. You don't make huge changes 2 months before release on an operating system used by hundreds of millions. All we are getting at this point is bandaids. If something sucks about iOS7 it's going to KEEP sucking by the time GM rolls out.

I love these discussions. A few months ago there were plenty of threads about if IOS 7 doesn't have drastically different ICONS and a flat look Apple is dead. Now the threads are if Apple doesn't go back to the old ones then it is dead.

IOS 7 brings more function and with all the new API's new application function. That is what is important and not the looks of ICONS.

Really folks - if you spend that much time loving the look of your phone screen - GET a life!

Dont chastise people for not loving the look of the phone "home screen". There is a reason Apple products have the status they do. They are beautifully designed. The moment you start saying things like that it completely diminishes why we use Apple products. If people don't care about the elegance of their phones then go use another product. Apple sets a higher standard and thats why there should be criticism. Keep the bar high.

Thanks for actually brining a valid fact to the whole BETA argument like everything is going to get blown up again within 2 months. NOPE! However if they don't fix the notes app yellow icons on white background, then I'm gonna flip some tables. Haha. What a STUPID STUPID IDIOTIC design choice.

Once you use iOS 7 for a while (or like me, since beta 1) you will see it is really not much different from iOS 6. It does the same stuff, allows the user to operate the device as easy as iOS 6...it just looks a little different. No big deal really. Certainly not a game changer. Same old, same old. I find the reactions to the betas totally OTT. The wheel has not been reinvented!

Apple just needs to hire this guy to show them how to get the icons done right. No more vibrating green icons.

That's why there is no colour scheme. The transparency is just enough so it serves as a background to the header and buttons, but the colour is from the content. It gives the OS a less heavy feeling and makes the content king.

1) It turned out fine. Apple Maps has been more accurate than Google Maps in my experience with data points, and directions have been identical.

2) The buttons are most likely final, but your silly arguments like the invisible volume bar is going to change. Not even Android would leave it like that. Minor tweaks are what we need as user interactions are pretty polished.

I'm sorry, but maps did not turn out fine.

obviously:

its a beta.

also that app doesn't seem to be updated to iOS7.

can we at least wait until the public release before people bash the design?
once apps are updated to work with iOS7 it will be a much better experience than ios 6 and before.

if you must complain point it in Apple's direction - they are the only ones who can fix it.

ignore me: I need more coffee lol

Unimpressed is the word that comes to mind.

Unimpressed by gradients actually going the same direction? Or colors that don't vibrate off the screen? These are the tweaks that should be made to bring the professionalism level up a few notches.

Vibrate off the screen?? "puzzled" - there is barely any difference between the greens on the beta 1 and mock up pictures. If i was worried about how iOS 7 looks, greens would be last on my list...if i had a list

Design 101. You don't put anything white in front of neon green thats displayed on a screen. It at least needs a faint drop shadow behind the white. This isn't Yahoo Geocities from 1999.

That was Safari, and it is a beta bug. Arrows aren't supposed to be frosted but blue, and the Done text is supposed to be blue to match.

So is the OP right? Nope. But is it a "3rd party app" issue? Nope.

Yhe complete misconception of what a beta is and a horribly constructed analogy is just amazing...or I guess not really, given that these are anonymous online forums after all.

Ok. So you know more about design than Apple? This is your opinion...I say, if everyone stuck to "Design 101" everything would look the same. It really does not look too bad.

Actually, you do taste food in the middle of cooking, and make adjustments if needed. And sometimes you find that you've done some irrecoverable mistake, like add too much sugar or salt, and you have to throw out that batch and start over again. But better to find that mistake while in the kitchen, rather than find out when the food is done and on the table and all your guests are eating it.

Honestly that blue bordering is so terrible it's making me reconsider buying an iPhone in the Fall. That's the kind of crap you would expect to see from a novice designer who has no idea what he's doing and doesn't understand what is considered aesthetic. If it's not fixed by official release, bye bye Apple :)

It is awful, but do you seriously think that they are going to leave it that way for the final release. Not a chance.

Just take a look at the simple keyboard entry UI design. It's beyond pathetic. There is a thin blue outline over the next/previous field buttons and that's how they solve the "layered" transparency design problems.

every day I look at iOS 7 UI and I shake my head in disbelief: 5 years of pure iOS UI design down the toilet and this is the best we can get from the same team that brought us the first iPHONE.

I'm in disbelief that they actually let these fake designers work on a flagship operating system.

you realize it's a beta, right?
