It needs more ram because of the resolution. The iPhone 6 will outperform the plus across the board in real world use as they both use the same processor. I am wagering that the plus will be plagued with stutters and slowdowns to some extent which won't be present in the 4.7.
Or they clocked the cpu and gpu a bit higher and fixed.

To be honest, why should you care about available ram?

It's a great addition for computers, but having owned the 5S and every phone before it. Other than just having more ram, I've never been in a situation where I felt "wow, I'm stuck. wish I had more ram."

I'm not trying to be funny. I just have yet to come across a situation where there was tasks or applications running that pushed my device to it's limits. processor or ram.

1080p screen. This sucks alot of ram. 64bit too. So there is enough left for one browser tab. The second will be closed. Thats how bad its going to be.

Agree on the higher clock. I think that maybe more likely than 2GB ram. And there is more surface area for the heat.

Cant someone just reach out to those people on youtube who have the phone and run Geekbench?

Didn't they already give the finger to 6 users by adding a better screen, batter and camera to the 6 Plus?

Let's be honest, Apple knew those added features would get people to spend more money on the Plus.

The more I think about this, the more I remember some points from the keynote. While they talked about the added features of the plus, did anyone else notice all their videos and hands on shots of the phone were all the regular 6?
All the videos of people using them were the 4.7 size.

When I was trying to decide on size I went back to the videos because I wondered why they didn't show everyone using the larger size. To me that says they prefer the 4.7 , but made a phablet to please the masses and try something new to get android converts back that left for screensize

Could be right but doubt it I think they just think more people will buyt the 6 in masses and their production on # of 6s may reflect that.
Whether they are right or wrong remains to be seen.

Would you not think they would want to show he "flagship" that cost more on their demos than the smaller model with lower specs if they really considered t their flagship?
If they gave it all the same internals and just a bigger screen and OIS, I'm thinking they did it just to bring over more business to take from Samsung and such that prefer phablet a, but still prefer the "lower" model

I disagree. The 6+ has better specs and they always seemed to highlight and mention those. The 6 is going to look better in people's hands and I'm sure people didn't/won't notice they only showed the 6 in videos.

Obviously for the 6 is going to look/feel better on the go so I think they show that 9/10 times in their videos. But when actually calling attention to or mentioning features, the 6 Plus was highlighted more.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if it has 2 GB of RAM ;)

It has not ... and it can't ...

And they explicitly mentioned that only the display and the camera is different.
(Besides the obviously larger battery.)

The 6plus uses the same SoC, it will have the same clock rate and the same amount of RAM.

In practice it'll operate closer to its limits with regards to animation and graphics.
It'll push 2,47 times more pixels. That is no problem for the GPU, but the memory bandwidth will be used solely for that ...

And memory bandwidth is key.

So. The 6plus is a compromise that is actually lower specced than the 6.

It's okay to justify your 6 purchase. But please, stop ignoring the facts.

I ordered both. I will read the reviews that will be released early next week and make my decision on which one to keep. If they both have the 1gb and the plus is choppier and loads less web pages like the Air and if the ois isn't all that I'll take the 6. I will not open both of them btw so someone else can purchase it.

You honestly think I don't have a hundred dollars extra to get a slower phone that constantly downscales?

Besides, I did not say that they don't have 2GB RAM. They either both have 1GB or 2GB. But the specs will be the same.

The A7 SoC had different clock rates between devices -- adjusting the clock rates for different thermal constraints is very possible. I figure the Plus will probably be clocked 100mhz higher or so.

Apple fans should stop talking about specs as this thread is full of rubbish comments.

6+ will not be slower. This is Apple, they don't hider performance, if they had too they wouldn't release the phone. Most likely a higher clocked GPU/CPU to compensate, time will tell.

I really hope the 6+ isn't the reincarnation of the iPad 3. Underpowered, underspecced for the larger screen and already slated for discontinuation in favor of the 6+S which solves all it's issues.

Yeah, umm, nice rationalization but no.

Why would you hope that? You a Fandroid? Silly thing to hope for.

iPad Air isn't as smooth as iPhone 5s, and those issues aren't fixed in iOS 8. (frame drops with screen rotation when keyboard is on, rotation in the app store app etc.)

So Apple takes the same approach McLaren does with their supercars.

"Our P1 lapped the Nurburgring faster than 7 minutes like the Porsche 918, but we won't divulge the actual time because you don't need to know. All you need to know is that it works."

:)

It doesn't. I don't know where that myth stems from as a FullHD framebuffer just needs 6MB ram...

It stems from the iPad Air's performance with tab reloading vs other 64 bit iOS devices that don't have the issue as severely. He's likely talking overall pixel count.

Not saying RAM is the issue but thats where the whole RAM vs screen size/resolution issue stems from.

this cracks me up. It's going to be 1GB ram. Do you really think apple would essentially give the finger to ppl buying the 6? By in essence future proofing one phone and not the other? Makes no sense. The extra GB Is nice but by no means required..

It's $100 more, so Apple wouldn't exactly giving it away for free just for picking the 6+. If someone was paying an extra premium, it makes sense they would get more.

While you may end up being correct, you can't know any of this. You come off sounding more like you bought an iPhone 6 and the thought of the 6+ having better specs angers you.
