One in bed with the Chinese, one ready to make the US into a Socialist Society, and the last trying to makeover the US via reality tv.
The entire point of the tariff is to make the product more expensive in the US. This is not an unintended side-effect, but the primary effect.
When iPhone is made in China and sold in the US, the money is siphoned from the US economy and then used to bolster the Chinese economy. Every dollar spent in the local economy is respent over and over. The factory pays the worker, the worker buys something with the money. The store they shop at pays their workers who then shop. And every single step is taxed. Every dollar taken out of this cycle costs the economy many dollars *and* benefits the other economy by many dollars.
This tariff is explicitly to discourage people from spending money in ways that will transfer it from the US economy to China and discourage US companies from transferring money to China. The specific issues Trump has with China are related to the Made in China 2025 plan, which actually is a complete disaster for the US. China is acting strongly against the US at the moment and they're doing it with America's own money.
TL;DR No matter how much you hate Trump as a human being and hate his policies, this tariff is entirely consistent with MAGA, the mandate for which he was elected, it is in America's interest, and working as intended. If you think the retail price of an iPhone in the US is the most pressing issue facing the country today, you will get to make your voice heard at the polls next year.

Protectionist trade wars played a big part in causing the Great Depression of the 1930's. Maybe nobody will be buying much of anything if this goes on. Many people are already hanging onto phones for longer. That will likely extend quickly, with the smartphone market one of the most vulnerable to stagnation.

You know, basic things that every other developed country on earth has: universal healthcare, reinforced infrastructure, paid maternity leave that's longer than a god damn month, etc. There's only one party fighting for all that here in the States... Take a hard look at the stated platform (what there is of it) for the top candidates in the Democratic Party. Biden is more old school Democrat and seriously out of step with the new Democratic evolution. Sanders is pretty much Socialism writ large.
As for one party fighting and the other ... You really are reading into things if you believe that is the case. Neither party is doing much. The extreme partisanship that exists makes it difficult at best.

I'm not contradicting anything. I gave a reason why phones wouldn't be built here, which is true. Their margins would go down and they don't want that, so they don't build them here. And I also said I'm not bothered that the phones are built in foreign countries, because I don't care. I'm not one of these overly patriotic people that forget all sense of business because of the pattern on our particular piece of cloth.
