Too late now. China is so big and powerful now. They have like 1.6 billion people. If half of the population is middle class, that would make 800 million consumers vs 300 from the US. And you'd still have another 800 million to sell them cheap stuff.
not exactly how the economy works or how the dollar/yen or other currency's work.
we could buy ourselves into prosperity if it did.

Screw China. This is what happens when almost all of America’s products are “made in China”. We’ve become too dependent on them for manufacturing. Total and complete bs.

Yep, I've been saying that forever. All those politicians and presidents serve the same group behind the scenes, they all play golf together, eat $200 steaks, and party together. They only fight on TV and us idiots eat it up. Divide and Conquer.
Yep they all party together at the Bilderberger group parties..
Always been the same way, democrat, republican..independant..all controlled.

That’s all irrelevant. Consumer prices are already increasing. Most consumer electronics cannot be made in the USA, we don’t have the infrastructure.

This is a lose-lose scenario for American consumers, American businesses, and American investors.

All we can hope for is more intelligent voting in 2020. China is probably hoping for the same - maybe they’ll even try to interfere with our election process! Trump sure won’t do anything to prevent them - he still won’t acknowledge Russian interference in our 2016 election, which is settled fact.

Kinda like the settled fact that the Steele Dossier claimed.

Or that Wikileaks and Wordpress both refute the DNC hired crowdstrike cyber security fitm’s evidence to insists the Russian ‘ties’.

It’s fine, because the DoJ is actually investigating this Russian nonsense once in for all in conjunction with the AG, FBI, and CIA.

Not some unknown third party ‘intelligence’ that’s proven to be spinning a lie.

Why, exactly? The whole purpose of a business is to maximize profit. It's not community service, patriotism, or platitudes. Also, Apple's stock, which benefits from those profits, are widely held by millions of taxpayers in their 401k and IRAs. Why should they pay to falsely prop up failing factories

This whole, maximize profits no matter the cost is exactly why the middle and lower classes get such a raw deal. Trump said he was going to fix it and drain the swamp, but instead he's just going to exacerbate the issue by forcing companies to foist even higher prices on everyday consumers. At least the rural folks who put him into office are getting what they deserve with their plummeting crop values. And of course, when poor urban and suburbanites get government assistance it's a handout to lazy welfare queens, but when rural folks get government assistance it's a 'subsidy needed due to poor market conditions'.

Why would Apple raise the MSRP in Canada?

because products in canada are always priced against the strength of the dollar in comparison to US prices. (sometimes slightly more). it's been like that forever, not just for Apple but for all companies.

if they dont do that then people will drive across the border and buy the products in Canada. sure CBP can enforce some sort of tax on products coming inbound, but people will still try and do it (and get away with it)

plenty of iphones are in the 1k area, for that price they should be built in the U.S.
No they shouldn't. Apple should make whatever margin they want that the public allows. Margins would go down drastically if built here. I couldn't care less where my phone is made.

you are contradicting yourself.
we pay a very hefty price for the phone already, I am betting apple will pass the buck to the consumers anyways and hell they will probably add to it and make as much as possible blaming it on tariffs

the economy IS doing great. greed is out of control? how much does apple pay for the phones using slave like labor?
More than other brands anyway. So your reasoning should apply to any brand, which of course doesn’t have 100% green energy or a great support for example

Too small a market, no supply chain, cost of building a factory, cost of labour.

And how many US citizens would be happy to py 30-50% MORE than the rest of the world who would STILL be supplied from China ?

for those wanting iPhones to be manufactured in US

- Chinese workers make 100$ a week
- a similar US worker will make $500 a week at minimum wage

an iPhone XS Max would need to sell for $2100-$2500 to have the same profit line if manufactured in US

NO one will buy an iPhone XS Max for $2000+

If Apple lowers the price to $1250 for a iPhone XS Max 64GB it would lead to a 30% reduction in earnings and would leave the Apple bottom line flat. imploding its stock value to around 500 Billion instead of a trillion within a quarter and Apple would lay off 1000s of workers.

Apple needs 1000s of skilled laborers to work 12+ hour workdays for minimum wage. there wouldnt be many to do hard labor. Apple would be forced to reduce the hours due to labor laws and ship smaller number of Phones thus impeding profits even further.

too bad we kicked out all the labor force from mexico...

Those farmers are working hard though unlike the nonworking welfare queens. So there is that.

It’s amazing how some people want to blame Trump for the increase in price. What about the companies that set up manufacturing in China? There is a reason why they set up shop there. Like the stock market, you have to ride it out.

Now the Americans are going to feel what the Europeans have to deal with on the iPhone ridiculous price scheme.

No worries, the rest of the world will also see an increase :)
Here in Japan, the Apple prices are beyond ridiculous already and as a colony of US, we always get the sh@tty deal going with it.

Settled fact? Care to elaborate from non government controlled media? Please, don’t say some bunch of IP addresses are evidence, as any even slightly skilled hacker can deal with those.

When will the people get the balls to admit their own shortcomings

Anyway, people and the small business will suffer. Corporations will be fine, as always.

Who else is there to blame? Trump doesn't seem to have the slightest idea about economics. He even tweeted last week that China would be paying the tariff when of course in reality it will be the American consumer and, in the case of Apple, probably everyone else so they don't have to raise prices too much in the USA.

Yes, there is a reason why the companies set up in China. It's called comparative advantage, something that Trump really needs to have an understanding of. The sooner someone with a decent intellect gets into the White House, the better it will be for the economy of the entire planet.

You have a link or some supporting documentation on that percentage? Please provide.
From what I have learned, you are way off base.

You also. How about some proof on that cost increase? Please provide.
