As it's Steve Jobs's birthday today, I'd wondered whether we might get an official iMac announcement - given it's probably the most direct 'descendant' of the original Apple computer. But this is a nice rumour.

The suitable size for smaller Mac Pro should be in G4 size enclosure, I think. Smaller than that it might concern with limited amount of PCIe expansion.
this was a doodle I made up a while ago for a "smaller" "mac pro" - to put all the processing, memory and basic io into an MPX module format, in an enclosure that has 3 MPX bays, 1 for the "computer", & 2 more mpx slots (which have a single slot each, rather than the 2 vertically stacked slots (one mpx, one pci) behind each MPX bay as in the current mac pro).

Modular (replaceable) graphics card in the ”mini” Mac Pro, pretty please… 🥺
And not as costly as the current Mac Pro?

I like the colors of the iMacs – I can see how they would fit in certain contexts.

I think the real hot question is release date... The M1 MacBook Air, Mini and 13” Pro have really disrupted the market and created waves. Currently, potential MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro buyers are in a very odd position...

It’s looking more and more like the Match event (if it happens) will be about iPad Pro’s and Apple tags. Could we see Apple launch the new 14”, 16” MacBook pros and the new iMac at WWDC? Could we see a surprise release similar to what apple did with the 16” MacBook Pro?
It’d be great if the March event had a “one more thing” preview of the Macs which will then be released and the detail discussed at WWDC. That way, appetites are whetted but no real detail is given away prior to release.

that said, I’m close to replacing my 2013 iMac with M1 Mac Mini & monitor, so I’m not really in the market for an iMac. The mini Mac Pro could be a future option though....

A square trashcan would suit me. Just give it a bay to add more storage, and another one for upgradable apple graphics cards. ie. it would come with standard fixed storage and GPU, but you could add to it. Put a handle on it like the trashcan.

If you must have colors on an imac, just make it a simple stripe or band, say 5mm all around. Maybe different color for different specs.

Why not make the Mac Pro literally a stack of modules, connected by Thunderbolt? CPU unit, storage unit, GPU unit. Stack as many of each kind as you need.

I am going with Silver or Space Gray just to be on the safe side. You want this thing to hold some resale value after all. Those weird colors on a computer won’t get you much.

I don't think I'm in the market for an iMac now that the 16" MBP is looking to get AS. I was going to go with an AS iMac/MBA combo, but I think I'll sink my funds into one device.

But it does make me happy to see some Mac rumours - can't wait to see some fresh exterior designs!

The MacPro design suggestion is... laughable. It's had a fairly recent design revision, where modularity/expansion is key for Pro customers who rely on those expansion card integrations.

If I were the Macrumors editors, I'd give Posser 3 more failed rumor calls before they stop publishing his claims. At some point, he's just trying to get YouTube views and we should all stop giving him attention.
