Prosser: 2021 iMac to Come in Five Colors, Apple Silicon Mac Pro to Resemble 'Stacked' Mac Minis

I won't ever buy another iMac, but I like the idea of the colors on a Mini. Color mac pro would be cool too, but Apple doesn't like to make pro devices fun.

Don't get me wrong, I really love colors, but given how those color options impact product production and inventory, and the fact that you are looking at what is virtually 100% screen, with the colored back facing a wall, in most cases, why would you (Apple) bother? Just sayin'. Personally, I'd be going with Space Gray to minimize reflections.

here he goes again ... well, I care much more about the internals of the new Macs and imho, as long as the front is black/gray/silver, I don't give a rats about the back as my current iMac is facing the wall ... but those colors are not for me ...

Make YouTube video, have news sites report on video, driving people to watch video... Man, I need to get in on this game.

1) Set up my own YouTube and social media channels
2) Make random guesses about upcoming Apple products
3) Profit

Will these colored iMacs include a hockey puck style mouse? For those nostalgic users...
He's probably made a mint recently posting more than weekly videos about AirTags speculation, perhaps the exciting Apple to report on

Hit-and-miss leaker Jon Prosser has today alleged that the upcoming 2021 iMac models will offer five color options, mirroring the colors of the fourth-generation iPad Air, and revealed a number of additional details about the Mac Pro with Apple Silicon.

In a new video on YouTube channel FrontPageTech, Prosser explained that the redesigned iMacs will come featuring options for Silver, Space Gray, Green, Sky Blue, and Rose Gold.

He shared renders of what these new color options may look like on a redesigned iMac, but noted that he has yet to see the rear of the new design, so his renders are purely speculative beyond color.

Prosser explained that the range of color options aims to capitalize on nostalgia for the original iMac, which came in a selection of iconic colors such as lime, strawberry, blueberry, grape, and tangerine.

Redesigned iMacs with slimmer bezels and Apple Silicon chips have been expected for some time, but it is unclear exactly when they are expected to be launched this year or if both model sizes will come out at the same time.

Prosser also outlined a number of additional details about the upcoming Mac Pro with Apple Silicon, supporting previous rumors from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Gurman has said that the new Mac Pro will be less than half the size of the current ‌Mac Pro‌, putting it somewhere between the existing ‌Mac Pro‌ and the Mac mini. The machine is speculated to feature a mostly aluminum exterior and may "invoke nostalgia" for the Power Mac G4 Cube.

Prosser has now said that the new Mac Pro will feature a design that looks like "three to four Mac minis stacked on top of each other," and provided renders of the purported new look.

Internally, Prosser says that the Mac Pro will be designed with the "compute unit on the bottom" and a "big heat sink on top."

Late last year, Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to launch the new, smaller ‌Mac Pro‌ with ‌Apple Silicon‌ by the end of 2022, but it could arrive as soon as this year.

He didn't say that they will definitely be released with these colours but the current prototypes use the iPad Air colours. Maybe those hues might change slightly by the time these devices are released.
Having said that, I used to have an Orange iMac and I want another one. Where is it?

I think they'd look better if they actually went back to the plastic semi-translucent back with deeper colors. Do it right with the panels and I'm sure they could also offer smoke and or an aluminum version for those that don't want the color.

I wonder if the PCIe slots are just going to drop entirely with the new Mac Pro design? That would be a shame for all the folks who were waiting years for them, but I wonder if Apple will even support third party gfx cards at all with the Mx Macs. I'm leaning toward "no."

This is cool, but ONLY if they also update the current cheese grater Mac Pro case to have an Apple Silicon option.

They just got done with the update everybody has been screaming for for years, so are they really just going to revert back to something not modular again for the next iteration???

In an ideal world there would be this new form Mac Pro, let's call it a "Mac Pro mini". Then there would also be the current full "Mac Pro" that is modular and (somewhat) futureproofed.

Given his knack for saying a whole lot of nothing, that's usually wrong anyway, I think Jon is ripe for running for political office.
He should run against Teddy in Texas when the time comes. They can have a meeting in Cancun first to get their stories straight. 🤣

What would you put in an m1 tower? You can't add a GPU, ram, or storage? I would be surprised if it even offered PCIe slots at all. I suspect it will just be a mini that needs more room to breathe.

I don't care much for colour options, I've always ordered a black or gray phone, but these very washed out colours are pretty crappy. I saw a friend's "gold" iphone 12, and a "green" iPad and they looked terrible...

Let's just hope that they do design it 'slab sided' again and that this also means they will re-introduce the concept of repairability. Getting into the current "ultra narrow edge" machines is an absolute nightmare no matter how many times you do it. Being able to replace those few common failure parts that aren't part of the SOC with something resembling ease (by Mac repairs standards) will still come in handy down the road. Power supplies, screens, etc.

Aesthetically I've always liked the slab-design better; on phones and iPads too. But that's a purely personal taste issue and I don't really care about it all that much. Repairability? That I actually care about.
