Time to update your story, MacRumors. Prosser wrong again. Why do you guys take him seriously? Constantly wrong and has no knowledge about anything. Embarrassing for both you guys and him, as always.

Prosser wrong again? I haven’t seen any official statement from Apple. Not because Mark Gurman says that, it means Prosser is wrong. Gurman has failed too.

Apple Watch series 6 will require iOS 14, and that will probably be released in October if Apple follows the same timeframe as usual. I’m highly skeptical.
What makes you say that? They can absolutely release a version of watchOS 6 that supports the new watches and then release watchOS 7 alongside iOS 14 later.

They could also release a version of iOS 13 with support for watchOS 7, if they wanted to go that route.

The new iPads will likely be an update to A12 and 4GB RAM for the entry iPad and an iPad Air with an A13, or it will retain the A12, with the new reduced bezel design and display being the primary differentiator. There will be no A14 or 5G devices until the phones ship.

Let’s play this out:

9/8 announce the event

9/15 event / iOS 14 / 7 GMs

9/18 watch and iPad pre-orders

9/25 watch and iPad release

seems plausible. But if the phone is launching in October, I can’t see the event happening so early in September. I also can’t see the watch being out of stock until October.

I don’t think they even need to do events for the watch anymore. Sure it’s a big product but it’s a mature product with minimal updates. I think it’s getting silly. Especially if they are having these things virtually without having the press present to do hands on.

We also can’t be certain that the new watch will need the new OS. Apple has released products without a brand new OS in the past (the first iPad Pro 12.9 for example). Could happen here.

Perhaps the 12 on the first week of October and the 12 Pro on the last week.

Jason Cross of MacWorld has pointed out this tidbit in his article .

For the last eight years, Apple has unveiled the new iPhones during an event held around the second week of September (typically on a Tuesday or Wednesday). The most likely date for the 2020 iPhone event would therefore be on September 8 or 9.

But the COVID-19 global pandemic has thrown a wrench in the plans this year. It has made both hardware and software development slower, and caused delays in Apple's supply chain—some of the components the company is relying on for the iPhone 12 may not be available in volume as early as expected.

So if Phones are not ready because of the Pandemic then it wouldn't be extraordinary of them to announce other products online right now, even if the ship dates are end of this month or into October.

Can you please stop giving this man credit for his predictions!

It is absolutely logical that Apple would announce the Watch and iPad next week based on the product filings and based on the history of events.

I like how Prosser is (according to critics) somehow both:

1) Making obvious no-brainer predictions
2) wrong

at the same time. :)

edit: my comment was meant to point out the contradiction in his critics

That’s my issue with this dude.
Why doesn’t he just say, “there might be a press release announcing watches and iPads this Tuesday”

Instead of that wordplay “there’s a press release on Tuesday that might not happen, if it doesn’t I’m right because I said so, and the day it happens I was still right because it will happen the day the press release happens” sort of.

Exactly! It's real leakers like L0vetodream who actually reveal crucial information.

I.e Big Sur and the features of the software.

If mark Gurman was right then Apple would have revealed a live event a few weeks before the unveiling, they have not done so yet and your only saying this now???

I’m leaning towards prosser only because Air 3, Mini 5, AirPods 2 etc were revealed via press release in March last year

But this year is sooooooooo different in every regard compared to last year. It is not a like to like comparison at all!

I think Gurman is saying the event will be later on in the month and Tuesday will just be Apple announcing said event. Press releases aren’t announced by Apple ahead of time.

If Prosser has the date and time right then it comes at the wrong time for event invites to go out as they usually come out around 12pm EST, and not at 9am EST as he is suggesting.

or, let’s play it out like this, which is a lot more likely.
9/8: iPad (8th gen), iPad Air (4th gen), an Apple Watch series 6 are announced and available for order, with the iOS 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14 GMs available.
9/15 or 16: iOS 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14 released to the public.
9/18: New watches and iPads ship running iOS 14 and watchOS 7.
9/22: iOS 14.1 beta 1 released to developers.
10/1: invitation for an October 13 event go out.
10/13: iPhone 12 series, AirPods studio, Apple powered Mac, HomePod mini, air tags, and new Apple TV are all announced, with iOS 14.1, watchOS 7.1, tvOS 14.1, and the first public release of macOS Big Sur all released to the public.
10/16: iPhone 12 and 12Max begin pre-orders.
10/23: iPhone 12 and 12Max begin arriving to customers.
10/27: Apple holds their quarterly earnings call, where they announce the high pre-order number for the new iPhones.
11/9: iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max become available for pre-order.
11/16: iPhone 12 and 12 pro max ship with iOS 14.1.1.

He is so wrong, Apple would not release a new watch now before the iphone
Please explain why not? The first Apple Watch was released in April. Also, the watch is not facing any production delays or difficulties, where as the iPhone is. Apple has absolutely no financial incentive to delay the Apple Watch. Also, with it being a relatively small update this year according to rumors, there is no reason for them to waste time announcing it at an event. All they have to do is announce it via press release on Tuesday, and start airing ads for it.

I agree its likely a bit too soon for the next iPad Pro, any and all of the iPad/ Air/ mini are definitely due a bump though, a minor bump to the A12 for the iPad with the above redesigned A14 based Air seem very plausible, and I'm not sure about the mini, it was brought back at parity with the Air, but with no leaks it sounds like it might just get an internals bump if anything? The A4 and A5 both debuted in the iPad before making their way into the iPhone so it wouldn't be completely unprecedented for the A14 to appear first in a new iPad Air :)
Apple currently shows the IPP as new in the store. Don’t think I have ever seen a product displayed as new and then upgraded at same time.

With the phone delays, anyone think it possible they still hold a virtual event in Sept., whose focus is everything except the phone/watch - which will be covered at a second event, mid-Oct.? Could be a nice cadence for Apple: Sept. invite, event, preorder, shipping!
Oct. invite, event, preorder, shipping!
Regardless, I don’t see them splitting the watch/phone event.

That said, don’t they usually deal in Cali time? The 9 AM EST standout as odd.

Ah. I misread his tweet. Thanks for correcting me

I have no idea about the perfect timing for this but in AEST that time would be 11pm. When SE 2020 was revealed it was 1am AEST😭
