The current iPhone SE (3rd gen) has 5G support. I don't think Apple would remove that in the next one. This article isn't too helpful without any mention of whether the next SE will have 5G support.

People who buy the SE just want a phone and like Apple, they don't care if the design is dated as long as it works.Apple reusing a design? What is this madness?
Kidding, but this is no shocker.

It's the iPhone SE.iPhone XR 2018 design... we're almost to the year 2023.
I’m getting tired of seeing the old designs by Apple. Where is the hardware team?
It's the same ppi as the current iPhone SE.Our worst nightmare comes maybe true. Let's see ...the "New XR" ...with its draconian ugly fugly outdated 6.1 LCD 326ppi screen in 2023. Price point? I wouldn't pay more dollars than the ppi on its screen. Apple ...they will have the audacity to position it as a huge screen upgrade and justify that as the reason to markup the price to go with it.
A mini with those things means Apple would have to spend money to redesign the chassis and retool the manufacturing line. All that for the cheapest iPhone? Never gonna happen. The current Apple is all about profit and cutting cost, so entry level models will simply get old designs and existing chassis. An iPhone mini with a single camera, Touch ID in power button, USB-C and no Face ID would be an ideal entry level phone. Reuse the rest of the 13 mini internals.
The same screens with a smaller cutout could be used, bringing the dynamic island to the SE. A narrower island would mean existing Live Activities would not need recoding.
This cripples it enough to not cannibalise the iPhone 14/15 but serves as a great introduction to the iPhone and for teenagers.
It really would need a price cut, the existing SE doesn't really attract people to the platform.
I’m probably replacing my sister-in-law’s XR with this. She’s prone to migraines so I was worried about getting an OLED phone for her and putting her through what I’ve gone through with finding an OLED iPhone I can use without getting migraines. On the contrary, I think the XR design is the nicest since 2018 and I’m hyped to be able to replace my wife’s XR with a SE4.
My mom still uses one. She wants a new phone but she can't seem to justify it to herself because it still works well.We had the product red Xr (traded in for an iPhone 14 PM)…it was a good looking phone.
The point is it's a re-used design. Apple is still producing iPhone 13 minis so they don't have to do much. They're doing the same thing with this rumor. Re-working internals and revamping production that might have slowed down.A mini with those things means Apple would have to spend money to redesign the chassis and retool the manufacturing line. Consider that Apple didn't even bother changing any parts of the 2020/2022 SE from the iPhone 8 other than the SoC.
As long as it still has Touch and a bigger screen than SE, I'll take a lookAn iPhone mini with a single camera, Touch ID in power button, USB-C and no Face ID would be an ideal entry level phone. Reuse the rest of the 13 mini internals.

Yeah but which is better? 326ppi at 4.7 or 326ppi at 6.1? 6.1 is stretching boundaries IMO. Some users may only be looking for a budget phone with decent screen size for general usage so the bigger screen upgrade would be enough perhaps with the usual incremental camera upgrades. Let's see how far Apple push the price up.It's the same ppi as the current iPhone SE.
Why would the same ppi be worse because the screen is bigger? The XR/11 display look nice aside from bigger bezels than OLED.Yeah but which is better? 326ppi at 4.7 or 326ppi at 6.1? 6.1 is stretching boundaries IMO. I can hardly imagine them keeping it the same price as the SE.
even the current one supports 5G so it's no discussionThis article isn't too helpful without any mention of whether the next SE will have 5G support.
Huh? It's the same PPI regardless of size, so to your eyes, it the same quality. The pixels don't become worse just because the screen is larger. You seem to only see PPI as a spec on paper without realizing the actual application.Yeah but which is better? 326ppi at 4.7 or 326ppi at 6.1? 6.1 is stretching boundaries IMO. I could have explained the background details a bit clearer. I pitched it the wrong way.Huh? It's the same PPI regardless of size, so to your eyes, it the same quality.
