I don't mind all the colors. Good for those who like them. But is it too much to also have the option for a simple black machine? I don't want a colorful computer chassis. For me, the only color should come from the display. The rest can be gray or black.

I doubt the cpu would get more than a slight bump if they redesign the computer. That’s too much value and that’s not what they are out to give you. The m2 would come long after the redesign. It’s an opportunity they aren’t likely to pass up. To make people think they need a new computer for the features and not the power. New processors come when it’s time to do something new and changing one component is super cheap to do but generates more sales for a year. The redesign without a big speed bump can do that too. Also by letting the macbook pros have a wider lead in the spec race it sells more of those. Why let people think they can get most of what they want on the cheaper system? Colors, yes, new cpu, that isn’t an over clocked m1? Doubtful.

Will be fantastic if it comes in colours instead of the same old silver, grey and gold/rose gold. Rose gold/gold was the best of the lot

I like the colors, but in my opinion the Space Grey is classy and ages well. I’ve had my Space Grey 2017 MacBook Pro for over 3 years and it still looks new. I ordered my M1 Air in Space Grey.

Truth be told, I would love to have a matte black like on the iPhone 7 Plus. Probably the best looking iPhone in my opinion.

Hope they shave 0.5 to 0.8lb off the current air.

Would like it to be more comparable to the Retina Macbook than the pro and with all the reduced thermals, I think it is more than possible.

Hopefully they have an all pastel/Easter/feminine color lineup again. </s>

And yes, I am aware that color and gender are not synonymous.

Free Advice:
Whatever color you choose - just be sure it's not "Rose Gold" aka pink. That color looks like seasick pills and is nasty
Gold = rose gold, rose gold = pink

And, while were at it, red, often = salmon. I literally can’t tell the color difference between a red iPhone 12 and pink AirPods Max, for example. Apple has a long history of misnamed colors.

whoever made the mockup for this article missed the obvious... the interior color will be the muted pastel of the front of the new iMacs and the clamshell sides of the Macbook Air visible from the outside will be the bold color. this image is horrible because the bold color around the screen and keys is way to much.
