Apple makes the minimum possible changes to the device, literally just swapping the Lightning ports for USB-C. Yet somehow manages to still screw it up, not making sure there's proper software support in their own OS?

Wait, there are those of you who order these new perifs just because they now have USB-C??

My disdain for Lightning is strong. But yes, not quite strong enough to rush out and buy these new peripherals. Yet. I'll probably wait till there's cheap ones on eBay.

They probably didn't include support earlier to avoid leaks, now that they have been announced, hardware identifiers and drivers will surely be delivered across the current and last few macOS / iOS versions.
Really? Avoiding a leak on usb-c accessories everyone knew will come this year because of regulations? I guess their whole security team was protecting the keyboard then, because everything else leaked :D

It's really embarrassing. But I have to retract my earlier comments about not updating all of their hardware with the latest chips. If they can screw up a port upgrade, I can accept that it takes their engineering division six months to put the exact same logic board into a slightly different chassis. I'm really disappointed in the last couple of years how things go, they are lucky how good Apple Silicon is and how Microsoft sucks even more.

Why can't Apple come out with a reasonably priced keyboard?
Any recommendations for a Mac keyboard with USB-C connections?

I purchased a new keyboard to have Touch ID with my Mac mini, as my current keyboard doesn't have that feature, but for at least now am going to still use my lightning trackpad with the new mini.

I still rip occasional CDs because I'd prefer the higher quality audio vs non-high res audio from streaming services.

This is good to know though. I have an external Blu ray drive I use to rip movies. I'm curious to know if i will have trouble as well.
You know that Apple Music supports lossless music streams at no additional cost. Right?

Soo, will this work on OCLP that brought an older mac to Sequoia? Or is this because of Bluetooth low energy or something?

My iPhone does not like connecting to my OCLP mac

You've done a great job summing up all of my thoughts these days about Apple as well. I'm sure we both could make the list keep going for another 30 pages. As I said in my first post in here, Apple has become somewhat of a joke at this point in so many areas, it is depressing and sad to watch happen.

And no, this isn't only about incompatible keyboards. And yes, I usually love Apple, but the past few years have really changed things. This Apple is not the old, good Apple that I grew up knowing. The company is morphing into something, not good. Not good at all.
So true. When i got my first Mac in fall of 2005 (15" PowerBook G4), Mac OS X was amazing - ultra stable without any of the spam/malware/adware that was plaguing Windows (XP) PCs at the time. Also, these were pre-SSD times and Macs did't have the issues with hard drive fragmentation like PCs. I only had to force reset that PowerBook like...once a year. And, back then, virtually no one made a desktop or laptop with the build quality and higher-end materials Apple was using. Oh well - nothing good can last forever.

But the issue is, most of Apples customers might just pop along for a new keyboard and be oblivious to the requirement.

Sorry, we do sell keyboards, but you might have to buy one of our latest Macs to use it. So you say you mostly check email, browse the web and use office productivity software. We have the perfect Mac for you, our latest Mac Studio will be a great choice. (Please mind the (RAM) gap)
This is as bad as the whole Apple Pencil line up. Unnecessarily confusing for consumers. Tim Apple needs to go. We're back where Apple was before Jobs returned.

They werent able to include software for it because it would have spoiled it. Thats the cost of hunting down every little code snippet in the hope of finding a future product
Definitely want to keep that magical usb-c port under wraps.

Not everything is on Apple Music believe it or not. I recently had to order a cd from Australia (I hadn’t bought a cd in decades) because of licensing issues and it only being available there. I’ve also had and then lost access to some albums on Apple Music. Anyone who has interests outside of mainstream can’t rely on streaming.
