Amazon Prime is way better than this. Far bigger selection. And I'm paying for it anyway.

With Apple TV+, it feels like the vast majority of content requires another subscription or rental fee.
Hmm, some of these shows are tempted, especially since I'm told you don't actually need Apple hardware to get in on them. However, I'm still going through Amazon Prime. And even if done with those, I'd likely move on to Hulu+ or Netflix at that point.

Also, SD (standard def) would be a big plus. Data caps are a thing for me, and HD isn't worth the extra bandwidth. (Def. not worth the extra cost if it does cost extra).

With what Apple has recently released, (Ted Lasso, Tiny World, Tehran and hopefully more soon) I renewed at the yearly price. If that had not happened, I would have canceled.

@jclo Update your Mac Juli :p

Thanks for the reminder, I'll try to get to it this evening!

Loved TMS, For All Mankind, Defending Jacob and Central Park. Enjoyed Mythic Quest and Amazing Stories. See was something of a letdown. Plenty more we’ve yet to try and second seasons of TMS and FAM will be must see when they arrive.

with everything being 4K, Dolby Vision & Atmos, only Disney+ compares on the technical presentation front.

Will be keeping the subscription going, and will be going for Apple One Prem tier when it comes out. Enjoyed the service over the past year.

TV+ should be exactly like Prime. There should be a rotating weekly selection of newish and old movies included in the subscription.

I registered around February. I haven't even looked at it since then. Mythic Quest was a bit interesting in an off-brand Office kind of way and I may sub for a month later to watch season 2, but I couldn't get through episode 1 of anything else.

Gee, if only there was a simple way to remind yourself eleven months in the future to check / cancel a subscription... 🤣

Can’t cancel until Ted Lasso is over which by the way is really really good

Ted Lasso, For All Mankind and Mythic Quest alone are must watches for me. Ted Lasso might be the TV show of the year.

Throw The Morning Show, Home Before Dark, Little Voice and Amazing Stories as additional filler? "Terrible Shows" they are not.
For All Mankind? really? alternative history? snoozefest. couldn't get past the first episode. kinda discredits your other recommendations.

Got my student apple music and its free with it
and I graduated University last year ahahahahaha and its still gives me student discount you'll never catch me!

As corny as it is, my wife and I really loved Ted Lasso. I would probably skip paying for another year of Apple TV+, except we’ll get it with the Premier plan that will cost us just $5 more than we’re already paying for Apple services and we’ll get some News+ and Fitness as well, which makes it a no brainer for us.

There is no doubt that if Apple keeps putting the money into new shows, they’ll have more hits. It’s no different than Netflix or Prime, where not every show is great for everyone.

When you say register to a new Apple ID, what does that mean? I wouldn't want a new iPad setup for some bogus email that I rarely use. How do I register a device to a little-used email without making that email address the active address the device uses?
1. run your ipad on a new Apple ID
2. register a free year on Apple TV
3. reset iPad and log into your usual account
4. add to the family new Apple ID
5. you are enjoying Apple TV 1 year for free

important: the appleid on which you register apple tv cannot be in the family before and could not enjoy an unplanned year
The free year of apple tv is valid only once for a given apple id, regardless of the amount of purchased equipment

I liked the Morning Show & For All Mankind, LOVED Mythic Quest & Ted Lasso. So far really digging Long Way Up, but mostly because I'm into electric vehicles. If it was a normal motorcycle show I probably wouldn't watch.

I really wanted to like "See", I watched the whole season, but... Oof. There's a few good movies on there though, The Beastie Boys doc was really good, Greyhound was meh but The Banker was decent. The Tiny World show is really beautiful in 4K.

Overall I'm pretty happy considering it was a free year thanks to my housemate buying a MacBook Air. I'll be buying a new Apple Watch soon so I'll pick up a free subscription once hers ends.

After buying a iPhone last year, my free year expires on October 31. I just purchased a new iMac but don't see a way to add another year. I guess one free year is all one gets, no matter how many new products are purchased?
Edit. I see the answer to my question from Marek. Thank you.

Mine expires on 2 Nov. Will probably just pay for another year upfront just so I don’t have to think about cancelling for another year.

One free year per household, if I am not mistaken.

Apple is literally the only service I have ever seen that stops your access immediately if you cancel your subscription. To be honest, I didn’t even know that was legal

If you cancel the free trial, what would you expect? How much money would you be out of? And why would it not be legal?

Remember that if you cancel Apple TV+ now, you'll lose access immediately. If you still watch the service and want to make the most of your remaining subscription, set a reminder for October 30 to cancel.

Does this also apply to normal subscriptions? That's really scummy if true—and it means I'll never be able to subscribe to AppleTV+ no matter what. I never leave autorenew on anything, ever!

No, usually you retain access through the end of the trial, cancelling just prevents it from auto-billing you at the end.

I liked The Morning Show.

I didn’t love “See”, but liked it enough that I’m waiting for S2.

My 5 year old liked Oliver Jeffers’ “Here We Are” short movie.

To be honest, I haven’t given anything else a chance. Same with Amazon Prime shows.

While a bit light on content, the quality of the shows has been great. Morning Show, See, Ted Lasso & For All Mankind have all been brilliant. Truth Be Told was ok, and jury still out on Tehran. But overall, a very strong lineup to build upon.
