Does this also apply to normal subscriptions? That's really scummy if true—and it means I'll never be able to subscribe to AppleTV+ no matter what. I never leave autorenew on anything, ever!

No, usually you retain access through the end of the trial, cancelling just prevents it from auto-billing you at the end.

Can you cite an example of that being the case with Apple?

If you want to retain the full one year free trial and go no further, simply cancel on the last day. Easy.

I'm curious about the number of people that will actually continue their subscription and will pay for Apple TV ?

You have to consider the type of people that post here on a tech blog. For years MacRumors has had a high negative component. Almost everything and anything Apple does is immediately trashed. The types that think they know everything and assume everyone agrees with their opinions are the most likely to trash Apple TV+ and have done so since day one. The general negativity here does not in any way reflect the real world response to Apple TV+.

Well said. A lot of people are not able to feel good about themselves unless they put down or trash other human beings or companies.

Truthfully what Apple should do (in my opinion) is reapply a year for every year you buy a new device. If you don’t buy a new device in a year then you can choose to pay the subscription if you want.

If they will extend it a year when I get a new phone then I’ll keep poking around there. But I’m not paying a subscription for it.

I'm betting Apple One comes out before these auto-renew. "hey Bub, you're gonna be paying $5 anyway so just go to this and get even more!" seriously, Cue isn't going to let the mass exodus of TV+ Cancellations happen. Apple One will come just in the nick of time.

Me, I'm happily ready to renew my subscription.

I'm a bit torn with this. I'd be curious as to how studios that are making these shows are deciding to go with Apple vs. other streaming services. I say this because I was absolutely enthralled with Ted Lasso. It's been quite a while since I've been interested in a tv show like that. I recognize that had the show been on any other streaming service, I'd still enjoy it all the same and I definitely want to talk about it more with friends and family but it is unfortunate that it is constrained by the platform (which is also constrained by the hardware).

In the end, I'll probably still subscribe to Apple TV+ but mostly due to the Apple One bundle. I'm not a big tv show viewer so it'll be some time before I get through some of the other content on this service.

It's difficult seeing Apple doing that.

For example, Apple sold 218 million iPhones in 2018 (almost 600K phones/day). As an Apple TV+ subscription is $50 per year, Apple would potentially be giving up $10.9 billion in revenue each year. And there's also iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs to consider.

Even though that's an unlikely top-end number, Apple getting on-board with that idea is just not going to happen.

They had a few good shows in the beginning.

But lately the only thing I see trailers for is documentaries or Oprah talk shows. Not interested in that at all.

at some point <decade from now> this service has to turn a profit. Problem is, its hard imagining it ever doing so.

PS f****** A. No. F the F off.

I’m not Apple’s biggest fanboi. And it’s been a bouncy road. But Apple TV+ isn’t that bad. There’s some half decent stuff on there.

Usually this scratty rumors [sic] site tries to get people to buy Apple stuff. Today, they’re reminding you to cancel your free subscription. I think they need to make their mind up.

Thanks for the reminder to cancel it. While we liked a couple thins on it, I can't justify the cost, even at only $5/month.

There's a big difference between not being able to afford $4.99/month and choosing not to pay it because we don't think it's worth it. I'm pretty sure my stock portfolio will be just fine.
Blah blah blah. Hey Mr Stock ‘Portfolio’ - I’m sure you can afford it. Stop being a bell.

Thanks for the reminder Rumors, good to know.

With Apple, no, maybe they've always been like this, I don't use any of their subscription services atm.

But this is how Amazon Prime, Instacart, and Zoom all work. That's just three off the top of my head, there are definitely many more.

The way Apple has set this up is mildly scummy IMO. Not, like, "OMG Apple murders puppies" scummy or anything, just, fairly crappy.

I don't fully trust myself to remember. Yes I could set calendar reminders and such, but still. Maybe I'll end up being super busy and ignore the notification.

And Apple presumably agrees that might happen, or they wouldn't set it up this way! There's no consumer-benefit reason to do this.

But then there’s also shareholder idiots on here that will praise everything they do. Personally, I only trash things that are ****. And Apple TV+ has been alright. It’s not great, but it’s not **** either.

No matter how behind they are on production with a bunch of shows because of COVID, I bet you at next week’s event we’ll see a bunch of trailers for the second seasons of their most watched shows. That’s how they keep us.
I honestly love many of the Apple TV+ shows, so I’m happy renewing it, if they tell me new seasons and new shows are coming soon.

I considered getting the individual One package. However, it is cheaper to buy Music and AppleTV+ at the yearly year, along with the monthly $0.99 for iCloud, (I don’t game) than it is to enroll in the bundle.

They're gonna release the next season of For All Mankind right before my free trial runs out, I know it. Otherwise, I'd probably let it go. :)

Maybe I'll check out Ted Lasso...

Same. We’re interested in the bundle that offers the Fitness Plus but it’s more economical to pay for Apple TV+ & Music on a yearly basis.

Our family has enjoyed this. We plan on keeping it. We look forward to future content. Can't wait to see the Paul Rudd Tiny World series. Love stuff like that.

Looking forward to the subscription bundles already... was kinda hoping they'd be out already.
Likewise, we renewed for the year. You’ll really enjoy Tiny World! We watched all 6 episodes over the weekend.
