I'm curious about the number of people that will actually continue their subscription and will pay for Apple TV ?
I suspect a significant chunk of people will forget and accidentally pay for a month.

Shame on Apple for implementing a dark pattern and even more for going a step above scummy by prominent placement of the threat of losing access instantly by cancelling the trial. I haven't seen anyone take access instantly or threaten it. That's such the antithesis of the Apple I grew up with.

Wonder what the free trial cancellation rate will be?
Wonder how much the Appel One bundles will offset said cancellations rates?
Seems a little kludgy if Apple One bundles don't launch ahead of the earliest TV+ free trial end date. What, you sign on for another year of TV+ and then that all changes if you're interested in a bundle? Messy potential seems high. Hopefully, they've thought of that. I'm not smart, and I did. So...

It is crazy that buying a very expensive new iPad or iPhone doesn't add another year.

Sure it has some content but i'm not paying for yet more streaming.

1.) Thanks for the Heads-Up, much appreciated !

2.) The last episode of See was the best thing I saw on AppleTV+.

3.) 2nd best was the Tom Hanks movie, with the 72,200 ? number at the end of the movie a Real Shocker ! ... had NO idea that many lives had been lost in that part of the war !

With Apple, no, maybe they've always been like this, I don't use any of their subscription services atm.

But this is how Amazon Prime, Instacart, and Zoom all work. That's just three off the top of my head, there are definitely many more.

The way Apple has set this up is mildly scummy IMO. Not, like, "OMG Apple murders puppies" scummy or anything, just, fairly crappy.

I don't fully trust myself to remember. Yes I could set calendar reminders and such, but still. Maybe I'll end up being super busy and ignore the notification.

And Apple presumably agrees that might happen, or they wouldn't set it up this way! There's no consumer-benefit reason to do this.

"I don't fully trust myself to remember."

Well... Apple will send you an email a couple weeks before the free trial expires - plenty of time to cancel. Also, if you *still* "forget," there's no doubt in my mind you can email Apple within a reasonable amount of time and they'll make it right.

But more seriously, as adults occasionally one has to take responsibility for your actions. That's one of the characteristics of not being a juvenile. If you choose to abdicate your responsibilities as an adult, then you shouldn't sign up for services like this to begin with. Simple.

I won't—I said as much in my initial post. I don't ever sign up for services that don't allow you to disable autorenew. I'm just a little disappointed to learn that I'll never be able to use AppleTV+.

It's good that Apple sends an email. But, I still don't understand why you can't also turn off autorenew. Again—how does not allowing that benefit consumers? How does it benefit Apple, even, unless Apple is explicitly counting on people who meant to cancel but forget?

Not a single show? There are over 20, but not one appealed to you? What do you watch?

Have to agree with the OP. I've had Apple TV+ free trial for almost a year, and literally didn't watch anything all the way through. Most of it wasn't even interesting enough to try. Meanwhile, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max all released substantial engaging new content. Apple TV+ is as bland as Apple products today. I suppose being so generic as to not offend anyone or generate buzz is part of Apple's plan, but it makes their content forgettable and boring.

I still got 4 more months. :) Stacked my 4 free months with my Emmy code + the 1 year from someone in the family buying a phone, but yeah def renewing when the time comes.

Thank you, and canceled.

We will subscribe again when SEE season 2 drops. One of the best shows of 2019. Just magnificent.

I echo what others have posted: Apple needs more content. We enjoyed Servant, Ted Lasso, Greyhound, but like Disney+, there wasn't a consistent service line up to justify another subscription. Reminds me of the early days of Netflix. Remember those? Just awful.

Edit: Another reason to cancel is that we have Chromecast. I understand why Apple won't align with Google, but it is not my favorite to fire up the laptop so that we can watch Apple TV via Chrome extension.

The only thing I enjoyed watching was the Beastie Boys special which was very well done. Tehran looks really interesting but I canceled my trial months ago as everything was so boring and uninteresting. I will give it another shot as I will be subscribing to the medium tier of Apple one since I already pay for family Apple Music and increased cloud capacity.

But yet you can afford Apple devices which are way more than £50 a year. 🤣
It’s only £4 a month ffs. I’m sure you spend more on Starbucks in a day.

I don't think you understood my post. I meant as far as expensive, its near the bottom of the list. I purchase a lot more expensive things than ATV+

I just checked and mine expires on January 17. Which means apparently I’ve had Apple TV+ since mid-January—in other words, throughout the entire pandemic—and haven’t watched it once.

I cancelled my free trial of Apple TV+. I have Netflix and Youtube premium and get Youtube TV through a family member. The Google TV service has unlimited cloud recordings. No time to watch anything. Likewise, I cancelled my Apple News+ or whatever the name is. I already subscribe to WSJ, NYT, WaPo, Economist etc. I did not find any value in having magazines through the News subscription service. Apple really needs a better TV+. They have had ages to grow that. I am not sure Team A is looking after this product.

In most of the free subscriptions, people can cancel out just after subscribing and still get the full length of the free subscription (i.e. cancel immediately after subscribing).
