Shocker, clicks and clout from people who use Apple products to try and force a class system.

Hope they get blacklisted and shame on Apple for charging so much for such a beta product.

What is “this”? If it’s the future of computing being wearing silly goggles on your face that make you look like a dork then yes I hope Apple and everyone else fails.
Two things I can't bring myself to doing. One is wearing silly looking goggles on my head to play games and the other is saying Hey Siri or Okay Google on my phone or device to bring up the digital assistant. It's why I never bothered with 3DTV because it required having to wear special glasses.

Do people who shell out this sort of cash need refunds on anything they ever buy ? YMMV.

Cant see a huge return percentage myself...lets see....
The problem with predictions (either way) about "huge" return percentages is that afterward you can always claim victory.

If the return rate turns out to be 10%, one person could say, "See, I was right! I said the return rate was going to be huge, and it's 10%, which is HUGE." And another person could say, "See, I was right! I said the return rate was not going to be huge, and it's only 10%!"

I prefer predictions like

Literally 99% of the youtubers who bought Vision Pro to review it and will now return it for a refund.

At least this one is somewhat testable, especially since it says "literally", which means it has to be 99% or it literally fails.

I'm not seeing a lot of "Why I'm Returning my Apple Vision Pro" videos coming across my YouTube feed so far. (I did see one.) I AM seeing some videos from people who were originally critical (and still are of many aspects) saying they are surprised how much they use theirs.

I'm not a YouTuber, but I'm keeping mine.

Returning mine. Reasons?
1) Glare coming off internal glass is a big deal. Also, with the seal I think they should have a very small fan to move air, I had some fogging a few times.
2) Far too heavy.
3) Battery with cable is horrid.
4) Apps suck right now.
5) Integration to Apple ecosystem and MacOS is abysmal.
6) Still not very comfortable for certain people. I have a huge red mark on my nose bridge after watching a movie or TV.
7) Guest mode is a good idea, but it would be nice to have a single user mode and a multi-user mode which forgoes iMessage and some other personalized services so other family members can use it regularly. This is the major upside to Quest, anyone can pick it up and play.
8) Every time I shut it down with batt connected, I can't get it to start again. I have to disconnect batt and do a hard reset.
9) The apps/games that offer the AR experience are minimal or non-existent.
10) Along with the apps note, the spatial and just normal video players are terrible and lack support for common video types.

For the last two weeks I've used it to watch movies 90% of the time. I can't spend $4k for a private theater. For me, that is not even close to being worth it and I think this will be worth the cash in late 2026 or 2027.

10) Cant you run VLC? Surely someone will compile an Vision Pro app soon and everything will just work???

What cash are you expecting this to be worth in 2026 or 2027?

I hope Apple didn't book the revenue from those launch sales. I suspect a significant percentage of folks are abusing the return policy and buying with little intention of keeping the expensive machine. Of course, really Apple doesn't care because it makes so much money. And the product seems a success. We will never know the return rate, but I would be curious. Suspect it will be the largest return rate in Apple history.

People said the same thing about smart watches originally, heck some people still say it. Yet, you see them everywhere now.

I didn't buy a VP, but there will come a day when it'll be normal to wear it or similar ones.
People couldnt imagine carrying around a phone or a need to. :)

"only silly cartoon characters do that"...

the origianl iPad, most of the reviews were scathing... "silly name, who would want one?"

who wants a personal theatre for $4000? a few years ago large tvs or projectors and sound bars were similar money.
many people now only watch new releases at home. post COVID who really wants to go to a cinema? kids can all sit together not talking or interacting. it's a different world and generation. this device to isolate will probably suit them very well.

tech "experts" dont always get it right ;)

I wonder the same.

It’s probably used for “work” much in the same way people claim to use iPads for work.

I imagine anybody who actually does use an iPad for work would be vastly more efficient just using a normal laptop.

Depends on the kind of work you do. iPads are VERY popular in the medical and aviation sectors for example.

It seems a lot of people are returning it. It's amazing tech but it's not there yet. The Meta Quest 3 does a lot of things better and for much cheaper.

Apple seriously need to bring the price down even if it's a cheaper model. I don't know why on earth they thought it was a good idea to release one model and charge $3,500 lol. If there was a standard model for ~$1,000 then it'd have been much more successful. They could still have released the VP alongside it.

If they don't kill it off then I might pick one up in ~5 years time once the hardware and software is improved and hopefully there are cheaper models.
Tim the bean counter and his marketing exec’s wanted to tout Apple “premium” value lol.

Interest certainly died down not only in the Search but also Shopping category and this is only the US. There was obviously a peak when it launched but the decline was pretty sharp soon after. Just look how somewhat steady iPhone is in comparison. The overall trend of Apple Vision Pro is quite low to begin with (blue bar)

I wouldn’t draw too many arguments from fictional stories. It could be Star Trek used 2D screens because of something as simple as they didn’t want to cover up actors’ eyes with headsets and/or screens are cheaper for production.

Why not?

Why can’t it be that it makes more sense design wise to to have holographic screens project in front of you rather than have screens shoved up against your face

Its a gen 1 new product category at a high price in one country.
Hardly a 15th iteration essential device everyone carries all day.

Pretty sure Apple is going to roll these out worldwide and there will be more than enough demand and interest to keep this going. We know they have timelined a consumer version sometime. they will learn from this rollout what works, what doesnt and tweak the cheaper version. Like they did with iPods, iPhones, laptops and Watches.

Apple will be getting returns in large numbers in the coming days. Suspect many will be returning it.

I think we're all starting to see what's really going on. This thing was nothing but a toy, that's it. It's not a game-changer, it's not something everyone needs in their lives the way smartphones, tablets and laptops became. It's just Tim Cook's passion project and people are finding out the Vision Pro is not all that.

Personally I was thinking about if this thing was $999... Would I want to buy it? No. If it was $499? Think about it... Knocking 3 thousand dollars off the price. I still wouldn't do it. It's not even about the price. I just don't see the point of this device. It doesn't bring anything to the table. It doesn't change your life in any meaningful way. It doesn't do anything better than other devices. It's a novelty item, a curiosity. A trinket. You have fun with it for a couple hours and then never find a use case again.

Whatever the goal the AVP was designed to do, it's not there yet. Too many compromises.

It's certainly been entertaining reading all of the gloom and doom posts here about AVP here while proclaiming it a failure, and concluding Apple is clueless regarding new product releases. Just like iPod/iPhone/iPad/Watch/AirPods/etc.

It'll be a lot of fun coming back to this thread in the future!

Why would you buy something like a Vision Pro if all you want to do with an AR/VR headset is watch video?
That’s all anyone who’s been expecting an Apple headset has wanted to do with it since it was first just a rumor. No one was asking for a MacBook on their face for twice what they wanted to spend. I.e. no one went “hot damn, I can’t wait to enter spreadsheets or type memos in virtual reality”. But Apple needed a different angle to market a headset from than the only use case that VR has managed to mass market in the past 10 years. And I think they’re finding out why it’s the only use case that ends up working for VR, you need a compelling/distracting experience to use a headset for more than an hour….and doing WORK in VR/AR isn’t compelling, it’s just work with a weight strapped to your forehead. I know if I spent the equivalent of a MacBook, iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, and a 4k monitor combined on an AVP I’d also be trying to justify it to myself and everyone around me. Almost everything you can do on an AVP can be done faster and more efficiently IRL. You know why Apple is marketing it so hard? Not because it’s a good idea, but because they need a new market segment with phones, tablets, and laptop markets sagging. Again, they should have just released a non-Pro Vision for media consumption and games for half the price instead of trying to skip ahead.

No one is fixated on hating AVP if they say it's expensive, it's heavy, looks silly with cable and external battery. I see contributors are allowed to comment on other people, but when I make the same comment I get banned. SMH

I think after seeing more of the reviews etc I'm not as against the Vision Pro as I once was, but I think there are a couple of factors to consider here:
- It's not just $3499, but $3499 for a device you probably won't use as much as any other device due to comfort, battery life etc (I say this as a Quest 3 owner, which has the same problem to a greater extent). So it's essentially even less value.
- Some solution in search of a problem vibes. It's early days for sure but what the few friends who have bought the VP have told me there's just not really a lot to do beyond awesome entertainment, which is then a bit handicapped by the previous point. At least the Quest 3 has a primary use case of games, whereas with the VP it's not that great so far.

I don't think AVP is doomed though.
