I think after seeing more of the reviews etc I'm not as against the Vision Pro as I once was, but I think there are a couple of factors to consider here:
- It's not just $3499, but $3499 for a device you probably won't use as much as any other device due to comfort, battery life etc (I say this as a Quest 3 owner, which has the same problem to a greater extent). So it's essentially even less value.
- Some solution in search of a problem vibes. It's early days for sure but what the few friends who have bought the VP have told me there's just not really a lot to do beyond awesome entertainment, which is then a bit handicapped by the previous point. At least the Quest 3 has a primary use case of games, whereas with the VP it's not that great so far.

I don't think AVP is doomed though.
Exactly. If I don’t use my Meta Quest everyday or more than my laptop I don’t feel like I wasted nearly $4000…at worst I “wasted” $500 and it’s fun enough and good enough to never feel like a waste.

I remember demo’ing my new iPhone 3G to my boss in the lunch room and he bought one the next day. Granted it was 2nd rev iPhone, there was instant ‘this changes everything’.

It seems like they could’ve kept AVP internal for some time longer. Though if the goal is ultimately a glasses style product, didn’t Google Glass come and go a while back?

I’ve purchased most Apple products since Mac IIVi. But I haven’t even had enough interest to visit the product page on the website for this one.

AI is the current major tech movement and a massive market size - releasing an AR/VR device and stepping into that size of a market with hopes for growth is baffling… Apple’s sweet spot is historically taking a piece of established demand (MP3 Players, Phones, Tablets, Headphones, Wearables).

It's certainly been entertaining reading all of the gloom and doom posts here about AVP here while proclaiming it a failure, and concluding Apple is clueless regarding new product releases. Just like iPod/iPhone/iPad/Watch/AirPods/etc.

It'll be a lot of fun coming back to this thread in the future!
Totally agree, very entertaining. People thinking Apple doesn’t know exactly what AVP is, where they want to take it in the future, and how many people will return the product.

What is “this”? If it’s the future of computing being wearing silly goggles on your face that make you look like a dork then yes I hope Apple and everyone else fails.

Imagine for a second if the avp actually was worth wearing for work. So from now on you’re committing to wearing goggles to work in. Doing a tweak here and there to optimize your work setup and flow. It’s a road to misery.

One year from now? You’re wearing goggles.

5 years later? Goggles.

Day in. Day out. At least 8 hours a day. 5 days a week. Have to put those goggles on.

Work at a professional firm? They’re all walking around in professional clothes but you’re wearing goggles. lol. Most here tho seem to work from Starbucks or home. Hard to tell.

Nothing about this screams more fun to use. Your eyes are slowly going blind. You got marks on your face. Constant headaches.

Get home from wearing goggles? Wear them some more. Watch a movie. Play with your kids while recording your precious moments at the same time.

Wait but that’s not all. Why not take them to bed. Lay down. Throw a movie on the ceiling. Your wife won’t mind. I mean if you’re wearing goggles all day chances are that train left the station already.

This is stupid.

I keep seeing comments comparing the Vision Pro launch to the original iPhone launch. What I don't think a lot of people understand is that most who tried the original iPhone immediately recognized it was a game changer. The idea that any significant percentage of people thought it would fail is a gross misconception. The Steve Balmer single comment seems to overpower the reality at that time. Your experience with showing off your 3G mirrors mine. People were blown away and very much wanted one.
The AVP is not the successor to the iPhone.

We’re also talking about a product where the main competition has only lost billions a year for it. Meta is 40+ billion in the hole and appears to have no plan on being profitable.

If Apple can make this the next iPhone then Cook will be a legend. Sometimes you have to say no. Most scenarios involve a lot to overcome here. The only saving grace is that it’s still not as dumb as the Apple car.

I love mine. I will not be returning it. Allowing others to try in guest mode has sold more for Apple. I am guessing that many many more are being sold this way than are being returned. This is indeed the future of computing.

There needs to be a company that admits this is only marketable for AR porn. All of the other stuff is ”cool” but not practical.

Lol with the number of people returning these things, it seems like it’s a giant L for Apple, which is what I thought it would be the first moment I saw these things being talked about last year. There’s a reason why people’s Oculuses sit unused - they’re uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time and they make people nauseous. They need to make a product that won’t make people sick.

Could be wrong, but for any previous Apple product launch, I do not recall MacRumors publishing a news article to let people know that the 'Returns Window' was about to close?

iPhones weren’t making people sick though.

I would say the vast majority of comments come from those who either like to post negative comments about new products from Apple, or they never laid their hands on the Apple Vision Pro. Who really cares what the return rate is? It’s all speculation, innuendo and hypothesis. At the end of the day those who like Apple Vision Pro will not return it and those people who can’t afford it will! And their excuse will be as reflected in the many many posts since launch day, that it’s too heavy, I burst the blood vessel, it gives me headaches, the head strap has gotta be reconfigured so it’s more comfortable. Give me a break!
