Do you believe a person would spend money on a brand new iPhone if he knew performance on his existing iPhone would be unthrottled with a new battery?
Yes and no. It depends. I had to bring my car in for a series of repairs. I got the car repaired, but the last time it needed a repair I bought a new car. So people do different things. But this isn’t the same as claiming to spend triple on a phone due to one feature, every feature..screen, battery life, multi-lenses sure.

I can live without Haptic touch. But not being able to see and interact with "rich" notifications without unlocking is a dealbreaker. It just makes you ask, Why??

So, you would buy a new car when all it needed was a battery replacement? Very few would apply that logic.

That may be. But that was my point about springing for an iPhone 11 because the SE 2020 is missing night mode. In my case I was wanting a new car for a while and the “battery” was the excuse. In the case of the SE vs iPhone 11 I can envision a similar train of thought. Although as you said: “very few would apply that logic”.

Weird that they would remove this feature. This even works on my old iPhone 6S. I'm now in the habit of doing this on notifications quite often.

So what happened to all the people who always come out of the woodwork to scream about how Apple had to get rid of 3D Touch because it created an inconsistent user experience between devices?

Can you link specific quotes where somebody said that? I believe the reason Apple removed 3D Touch, it was a feature that wasn’t utilized by the masses, because they failed to market it. But for those who actually understood 3D Touches capabilities, appreciated everything it had to offer. Plus, I suspect it was removed to allow for an extended battery in the later iPhone models.

I’m able to do that stuff without Haptic Touch. I just swipe.

Am I missing something to beech about?

im not certain. Since the inception of Haptic Touch in iOS on devices that have 3D Touch issues have arisen. Such has text insertion into fields like this forums reply sometimes blocking out ability to scroll down to “post reply” now instead (for months) I need to press “Done” for the keyboard to disappear then I can Post Reply.

Someone this article has been updated to show a forums member with the iPhone SE 2020 that DuoLingo can show options within notification when you slide to the left to “View”. It’s the same with 3D Touch as well on devices that support this, I don’t recall other options being there.

what I have noticed is Haptic Touch in notifications does not give you options that 3D Touch does. See attached.

I still think this move for Haptic Touch to remove hairs of millimeters off the screen was a ridiculous move by Apple. I find it naive of Apple to create or implement a technology without looking beyond 5yrs ahead and only to remove it with a lesser option. They did not do this with FireWire 400:800 then to Thunderbolt so what gives with this?

It feels like Apple has cut too many corners to get the iPhone SE to $399. Going from 6s to the SE isn't fun at all.

It has been alluded to, among the reasons you mention, too. It definitely was a niche feature, but IMO one that should’ve been retained at least in “Pro” models where people are paying a premium for all the features and the best hardware.

There really isn’t any substantial battery improvement between the XS and 11 Pro, nor the 8 and new SE from what I’ve heard so far. So I never really bought the argument in favor of 3D Touch being sacrificed for a bigger battery. If it was, it was a big loss for little gain.

For what it’s worth, here’s one person alluding to the UX difference between iPhone and iPad, and Apple’s struggles to get it working in iPads leading to them to just drop it everywhere rather than support it where they can.

I legit don't think I ever did this with my XR, but in time, jailbreak will fix any artificial limitations with a tweak on SE2.

Thanks for your reply. And you provided some great insight with documentation. Excellent post.

This is not a new “bug.” I’ve been using Haptic Touch on my personal iPhone X and on my work iPhone 7 since iOS 13 was released. On the iPhone X, it works just like 3D Touch on notifications. Not on the iPhone 7. This has never worked in notifications on that phone. Hopefully they’ll fix it.

It’s pretty slimy of Apple to remove a feature that’s just software and not hardware dependent.

Do you believe a person interested in the $399 SE 2020 is going to turn around and spend $1200 on a phone because of the lack of night mode?
Certainly. I buy the Pro Max purely for the OLED display. If a $400 phone had that display, I would get that in a heart beat.

You can get OLED smartphone at $399 from Android. It is bad that Apple can't get it right in 2020 and that's what happens when amazing product is not the priority from Tim Cook.

It may work as intended for this iOS release but if they don’t fix this it’s a weird move. Hopefully just an oversight in the first place.

Apples LCDs are amazing. I bought the 11 over the 11 Pro because it has an LCD instead of OLED. The LCD doesn’t give me blurry vision and migraines. I’m glad they don’t sell out to all the hype and still keep putting LCDs in some models.
