Come on folks. If you want to use Beta, you must backup your phone every time before an update to a newer version. Not doing this is just plain reckless. That fact that there is no 11.2 version out for X is surprising, but no different than installing a new Beta on your current phone and finding out it's completely fragged and requires a roll back.

probably a good thing to setup as new. Don't want to risk any slowdown, bad files or corrupted settings you inherit from restores.

Hey, they got the dang thing out and its fantastic, according to Cook. Don't sweat the small stuff that Apple does not have the time, desire, or resources to address.

I had a similar problem in iOS 10 where I was able to modify one of the plist files in the backup to change the version back and was able to restore.

I did restoring an 11.0 beta on to version 10.3.x and it did not work, so it's possible it won't, but might be worth a shot.

I'm in the same boat as others on here and it's frustrating. I'm with you though. I knew this may be an issue, however just more shocked as you said that the X doesn't have the 11.2 update available.

Going from my previous update...so far no issues. it is moving right along from the 11.1. looking forward to having fun with it!!!

So i have an icloud backup with 11.2 software on my 8 Plus. How can I revert back to 11.1 and do a backup with my current apps etc so I can restore from backup on the Iphone X?

a smooth launch day from Apple? Never, always something ... it would have been nice if Apple told developer prior. Instead the kept notifying us update our apps for the iPhone X.

Well I tried...

This. I hope they release beta very soon. I have worked around it for now by downgrading the iPhone 7 Plus to 11.1. But what a pain in the a@@

If you're on iOS 11.2, you can download iOS 11.1 and do an "update" to 11.1. Once you "update" to 11.1, do a back up, and then restore.

Also wondering this - any way to go back if I still have my 7 Plus in hand? Not the end of the world, but hate to lose all my Messages etc... this is wacky.

Bummer. My 11.2 backup was greyed out. However, I clicked on Show All Backups and the one before that was only 6 days old, on 11.1, and the phone seems to be going through a combined OS update to 11.1 with a restore from that 6 day old backup.

Not super surprising that Apple didn't release an 11.2 beta for the X, but OTOH I wouldn't be surprised if one drops shortly.

I have been thinking this a lot today while I wasted over 3 hours trying to get my new $1149 phone to work.

Is that really true? So what is the recommended course of action for those of us that get our devices today in that position?

Either downgrade your old device first, then backup, then move to the new device, or wait for Apple to release the new beta before moving to your new iPhone X.

Fortunately my phone made a backup right before the 11.2 upgrade last night– tapping "show all backups" gave me access to one I could restore from.

Be warned though– if you attempt to use the automatic migration thingy it'll just hang forever.

So that's why my restore from backup failed.. I did it instore and it gave an error message right at the end. :(

This wouldn't have been the reason. The second you start to attempt to restore your backup it'll tell you the OS version isn't new enough to restore the backup to it.

What's not known about this? Those who install betas are told to create a backup before so that it could be used if needed. They are also told not to do it on their primary devices. All of these types of things are known.
