The typical Rolex buyer doesn't mind, a carbon fibre or Kevlar band is enough reason to buy another Rolex, as long as it has a crown on the (Taiwan-made) dial.

Don't know where you're spurting your "facts" from but Rolex dials are not made in Taiwan. Unlike Apple, Rolex engineer and manufacture most of their components in-house.

Its rare for a company to actually care about quality these days but you'll be surprised that Rolex still do.

Now, lets see if anyone but kids will care about their products. Maybe its only the kids who aspire to the the Apple Watch. If they're a loaded kid, maybe they'll spring for the Edition, that'll show their school buddies!

It's obvious he has zero idea of what he is talking about, and only aware of a Rolex knockoff.

I definitely will never pass up or replace a fine Swiss timepiece, but the Apple Watch will be a fun gadget to have.

51% of the components, to be precise.

The Swiss kool-aid runs hot in those veins ;)

Seriously. I've had a Rolex for 17 years. Will it last forever? Yes. Will I pass it down to my children? Yes. Will they relegate it to a drawer much like a grandfather clock merely sits in your house? Probably.

I can't wrap my mind around the fact that people can't see this. After you have a wrist bound communicator like something out of a Sci-Fi movie, you're going to refuse to wear it just so you can wear a mechanical time piece? This makes no sense.

Do you still have a rotary phone at home? It's much better made than a Uniden electronic phone from Best Buy.

I was at the grocery store minding my own business, bending over, looking at pita bread, when someone comes up right behind me and practically yells "HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?" I nearly fell over in terror.

lol clearly a troll.
Stop trying to be cool with American pop-culture, we didn't and don't have kool-aid here.
Go back to trolling your school friends buddy.

Seriously? I'm probably twice as old as you are, some of my school friends are already dead. Can we keep to watches, please?

This made me LOL. I think it was the specificity of the pita bread.

I was actually on both ends of the reaction. My watch arrived today.

Before the watch arrived, I was at the post office and the guy next to me had a stainless steel with the black classic buckle. I just asked him how he liked and we started talking about it.

I was getting some food and the cashier asked me, "Is that the new Apple Watch?" I said yes and she asked what it did. She was under the impression that it was mainly for fitness, I explained briefly a few of the other things that it did. As I was walking away with my food, I overheard her tell, actually more like yell, the guy next in line that I had the Apple Watch. I was a bit embarrassed to be honest.

I was at my Tuesday sports league yesterday and was using it during play. No one mentioned anything to me during or after lol

I love my macbook pro, i love my iPhone 6 and i love my iPad. The Apple watch i have zero interest in. So if I ever did see one out in public it wouldn't get much interest from me either.

The idea of having to put your watch on charge every day just sucks, I have a Casio GBA 400. That will do me just fine :)

My wife bought me the Casio GBA 400 for Christmas. I asked her for a $50 G SHOCK and she got me the the GBA 400 for $200. I did order an Apple Watch. I always take my watch off at night and place it on the bedside table so doing the same with the Apple Watch is no big deal.

But you are the first person I know who also has the GBA 400. I probably get compliments on it about once a week. People oh and ah over the the GBA 400 and I tell them "It's just a Casio". I do enjoy the freedom of a fully waterproof watch. ITs been in mud, the ocean and so on. I'll have to be careful with my Apple Watch if it EVER ARRIVES.

Mine hasn't gotten a lot of notice, which is fine with me. I specifically got a 38 in hopes it would fly under the radar. I didn't want something that screamed 'smart watch!' That said, several co-workers asked to see it as they are planning on getting version 2. The Apple employees were happy to see it at he Apple Store on Saturday, oh and the UPS guy made a point of telling me the package was from Apple when he delivered it. Guess it wasn't obvious I'd been obsessively tracking it's every movement! The only true public reaction I've had was using my loyalty card and Apple Pay at the drugstore. Cashier was fascinated and declared she now wants one.

That's a rough situation man... tough neighborhood?

Used it for the first time at Subway. Lady behind the counter said "Now that's cool!" I tend to agree.

No public reaction. Did have a few excited Apple store employees ask me how I liked it when I went in looking for bands on the 24th. They said I was the second person they saw with the watch all day. (~6:30PM)

They're PAYED to be excited to see someone with it

I haven't only had maybe 2-3 people ask me if its an Apple Watch. I normally wear long sleeve dress shirts so its covered. I don't make a big deal that I have one or show it off.

I've been asked if I really paid $10,000 for it (mine is the stainless steel model).

I've been asked if I like it.

I've used it to pay for taxis, at the pharmacy and haven't really had it noticed. I sued it at starbucks and the cashier let out expletives of excitement.

Used Apple Pay at Walgreens the other day, and the older cashier lady said, "Oh is that one of those new watches? I hope you don't get robbed..."

Thanks lady.

Now I'm worried someone is going to jump me and take my watch.

I first used Apple Pay on my Watch at Walgreens. The clerk couldn't care less.

Then I used it at Savemart self checkout. No one noticed.

I tried using it at CVS, but the clerk said it probably won't work, it didn't because they have the NFC payment disabled. But he was asking about it and said one of his friends is really interested in getting one.

Finally, while in line at Subway a guy in line noticed it and was asking about it.

So it's been all positive reactions in public so far.
