I used it to time fondu at the melting pot. Waitress thought it was cool. I was happy I found a purpose for it.

I was trying to avoid talking about it, but my teacher at night school noticed it (blue band sport is hard to miss).

The one person who asked about it (and he's only a few years older than me-I'm 47) wanted to know 'what does it do?'

And yet no feature I mentioned seemed to matter to him. It seemed like he wanted to call it a waste of money, but decided not to say so.

Sorry to say, I'm not a very good ambassador for the product as I have a hard time justifying it's use as well.

Notifications on watch, instead of phone. Heart/health features. Apple Pay. And of course, it tells time.

Do you wear jewelry? If so, do you feel you must justify it?

If someone wears a mechanical watch, do they need to justify IT?

I mean, their phone tells time. ;)

None of my watches cost $350.

I have a Philip-Stein that someone got me as a gift - it was $2500 (yeah, I thought that was nuts as well). Of course, then I had to get her an equally expensive gift. *sigh*

Now I'm trying to sell it on kijiji to justify paying so much for my 42mm SS SB with link band. :) (no bites yet though).

Anyone interested here? (not sure if that violates forum rules) - PM me. :)

I used my watch to pay for a drink at Starbucks today! I'm in the UK too. I used the Starbucks Card app which integrates with Passbook, and it worked flawlessly! Set it up on my phone, and the card appeared in Passbook on the watch. Holding out my wrist for the cashier to scan felt very cool and futuristic! The guy who served me was grinning the whole time (in a good way!)

Not quite as neat as Apple Pay will be, but very cool substitute in the meantime :) Should be able to do the same in Subway as they have a Passbook app too.

that sounds cool, some cashiers over here in Germany are already overwhelmed by a credit card so i never even bother and just pay cash instead of holding up the line. soooo yea Apple Pay is 3+ Watch Gens away

You guys don't have a lot of "tap to pay" terminals in Germany? They're everywhere in Canada! Going to be huge when we get Apple Pay! :)

no, unless you are in big cities like Berlin, Frankfurt or whatever you can barely even use a credit card. ive used "visa wave" or whatever its called for the first time in spain and i already thought it was the coolest thing. Apple Pay would basically blow my mind. i tried to buy cinema tickets with a credit card a few weeks ago so i could have it appear in my "passbook" app but that would have cost me an extra 2 bucks!

Ok, so it'll be slower to adopt in Europe (Visa wave would be the nfc "tap to pay" - same thing).

Hopefully the merchants see the value and pony up for the new machines quickly.

Don't bother trying. Those who are dead-set against it will remain so for a while. Just like my coworkers and business associates did in 2008 when I switched from a Windows Phone to an iPhone 3G. They said "it's just a toy" and "all my clients use Blackberries". Eventually, the great majority of them changed their minds.

Just enjoy your purchase and express confidence to others that it's valuable to you and meets your needs.

i remember people making fun of me because i was using an iPhone with my fingers instead of a stylus and look at it now

Is it any good? - "It's Awesome"

What does it do? - "Everything I want it to"

How much did it cost? - "More than I care to admit to"

I don't see the point - "you probably shouldn't buy one then"

It's ugly - "your face is ugly" (If they are being a real douche change it to "your face is ugly, at least I can take my watch off" :p)

...these are my standard go to responses now, they pretty much bring the conversation to an end without having to get into a massive debate lol

Apple Watch Impressions @ UCI

This happened today. I walked into the lecture hall and sat down with my friends waiting for my professor to arrive. A few minutes later, my professor comes into the room & immediately says "Is that the Apple Watch? How is it?" A ton of students in the lecture hall then point their eyes at me and look to see what she's talking about. The attention was quite interesting. She proceeds to come closer to me to hear more about it from myself. I then proceeded to tell her about it and how I'm loving it. Immediately after I tell her about how I love it, she then asks another, serious question. Guess what it was?... Whether one can use the Apple Watch to cheat. I begin to tell her that you kind of can if you take pictures of formulas/rules and use it as an advantage to midterms/quizzes/finals. Then I assured her that it isn't as easy as one would think. For example, how you would have to dictate your question to the :apple: Watch itself since typing is not allowed. It turns out, professors are wondering whether to prohibit the use of watches during examinations in order to prevent any form of cheating. She told me to get back to her on it, which I will. Pretty positive comments about it from friends. They truly love it and think it's neat.

I also went to Starbucks after my lecture for calculus & the barrista was amazed at my Apple Watch. She said "Wow, that's pretty cool! No more having to pull out a credit card or losing a wallet/money."

It's been garnering attention, but not so much. I can feel eyes looking upon me as I walk from class to class. It's attention that I don't mind!

They should ban them. There isn't an app for the watch yet that would let you cheat on an exam, but give it time. That could be very lucrative for someone (until Apple finds out about it and pulls it from the store).

Actually, this is pretty close to my responses. :D

I had my hands full when I was leaving a very busy grocery store and used my nose to get to a notification (sometimes I forget I'm in public). I wish I had paid attention to any public reaction to that.

Worst reaction is someone saying "oh is that the stupid iWatch?" to which my instant reply is, "Apple Watch"

I would have just smiled and walked away. (Translate: I couldn't care to even waste 1 millisecond of my life to entertain him/her. )

well I don't actually have one, but I've told some people I've bought one and I've gotten lots of reactions. most of them are skeptical. I work in an IT department and you could just tell the majority of my co-workers think I'm an idiot. some of them have android wear watches and go on about how it's cheaper, does more, etc.

other's think I've spent $1000 on the watch, and aren't aware the base model is $350.

I would say most of my friends think it's useless, but they wanna see it when I get one. I think they're almost as excited as I am!

So far, after walking through Philly with it on Tuesday, I've only gotten a comment from the Starbucks barista on 16th saying it was cool when I used passbook on my watch to use my Sbux card. That's been about it.

This morning I was getting coffee at the Starbucks I frequent near work. I used my Apple Watch to pay for the order and the barista about flipped out. She was an older lady and insisted she get a picture of it, but wasn't so good with her Android device trying to get a clear picture.

I was late for a meeting and said I had to go, she insisted she get a good pic of it so I put up with it for another minute before I told her I really had to go. I bolted over to the area where you can get cream/sweetener and she came out from around the counter and was still trying to get a picture. I finally got out of there but I was a bit worried she was going to follow me to my car (and maybe even to work).

Um, Yikes….

I've had more people ask if my Pebble was the Apple Watch after it was announced in September. Since I got an actual Apple Watch last Friday, only one Starbucks barista has asked about it. Other than some friends and colleagues, no one has seemed to notice.
