First day with it... a few people at work were intrigued but only for a minute or two. They expect it to do something special... I think it annoys them that I bought it first as a watch and everything else is secondary to me.

----------

I'm so tired of the "what does it do?" Question, I'm not Apple and I'm not telling you everything about it over and over again.

I love saying that it tells time.

Though I'm sure the employees may get aggravated by it now and then.

I'm sure they do. Hearing someone say "iTouch" drives me nuts and I only hear it rarely - they probably get it all the time.

I've noticed that Apple never pairs the "i" with a verb. We have iPad, iPhone, and iMac, but not iPay, iTouch, iWatch. iPay just sounds weird but the other two are downright creepy.

Yesterday I used Apple Pay on my Watch to buy a $1 soda at McDonald's. In the past this same cashier has commented when I used Apple Pay on my iPhone and said "That's so cool!".

When I used the Watch, he commented again "That's so cool!" with a follow-up question, "Is that the Galaxy Gear?"

Me: No, it's the Apple Watch (while thinking to myself:  ).

Cashier: Oh, because I expected the Apple Watch to be round.

Guess he hasn't been following any media whatsoever for the past few months.

Then a guy behind me in line said he has heard "mixed reviews" about the Apple Watch and asked what I thought of it. I'm not very good at pitching it, but I told him you can pay with it (which he saw), it puts all my notifications on my wrist, then they asked about photos and I said it syncs with your favorite photos from your iPhone/iCloud. They seemed pretty impressed.

I guess I need a better "elevator pitch" since there are so many things the Watch is capable of doing that it's difficult to sum it up in a few sentences.

Hahahaha! I know. Why in the world would someone think a whole device would be called "iTouch?" Maybe if it was a prosthetic hand or something. Otherwise, it's icky.

But, hey. Perhaps they wanna iTouch while they iWatch. Who am I to judge? ;)

Yea I have had absolutely none. Which I guess I am happy about. Not a big talk to people I don't know on the street person.

Had my watch about a week now, only people who knew I was buying commented and asked, apart from that there were plenty of people looking, but not asking. I am really happy about that, that makes wearing it very natural, and comfortable.

Having the watch for about 2 weeks now ive realized how irritated people can be about what YOU spend YOUR money on.

If I had10 dollars for everytime ive heard "So it just shows you whats on your phone? LOL What a waste of money that's stupid" I probably could've made back my money for the watch.

I cringe when people say "what does it do that my phone cant?"

They expect it to wipe your ass or something. Its a companion device for my phone.. get over it.

Question: do you wear your watch when you're asleep? I guess you don't, right? Then why is it a problem to charge the Apple Watch every day? In fact, even if my iPhone lasts for two days, I naturally put it on the charger every night. So it makes no difference at all. Same with the Apple Watch.

Don't see why people should be complaining about having to charge a device every night.. Well, I don't have the Apple Watch yet, so I can't figure out what could be wrong with that... :p

Yeah, this. It's actually easier and less hassle than my Pebble, as my Pebble would run out of battery at random times of the day or night, when I'm not necessarily prepared to charge it.

I wonder if a good may might be to mention that just like with smartphones we all use them for different things, whether it's mostly built in features or through using various apps.

Proud to finally be able to post on this thread! Getting lots of comments, so far all impressed or excited. Today got noticed at La fitness, barber, and staples.

I went out to dinner with friends who after a cursory glance, never mentioned it again. The biggest reaction I got was from the cashier at Walgreens when I used Apple pay. He was excited about paying from your wrist.

Seems people can't quite figure it out yet. I however love it.

I tell them it does tons of things hands-free. How many times a day are your hands dirty, or phone inaccessible?

Overheard a man on the london underground whisper to his wife,
"look, he has an Apple watch"
I pretended not to hear him.
Thats it so far!
I don't really flash it about as I don't want to be questioned by strangers in the street!

I think the single best answer to this is, it tells me when I need to take out my phone and when I don't; that is after all it's primary purpose in design, to let you rapidly triage calls/texts/notifications... then doing things like paying, airline passes, etc. In time though the voice interaction and sheer number of minor interactions that will develop with the Internet of Things coming online will transform the utility of the Apple Watch, which is already useful.

Public reactions are split evenly between 1) indifferent, 2) of the "I hear mixed reviews" or 3) a smile and interest in it as a gadget.

I keep laughing to myself because it really is only a question of time before wearables including the Apple Watch will become just as routine and seen as necessary as a smart phone is today, and using your phone to do everything will make you look "old school" and not in touch. Being an early adopter (which I am usually not) is kind of interesting just to see how people react.

Great Reaction

So,

I just brought it into my office today for the first time. And no joke, I had a line of my friends waiting to try it on. I am so glad I got AppleCare before I opened it. Because one of my friends almost dropped it! LOL This watch has been a hit, no one but me is 100% sold on it yet. But I can tell some people will defiantly be buying one. I can tell by the looks on their faces as they use the apps and feel it on their wrist that they are impressed. So far the best show stopper apps being the camera remote and Pandora remote. I love this thing!

:D

Lady in a local pharmacy was interested when I used it for Apple Pay and I think is getting her husband one. Otherwise, no one outside of my family. Which is a good thing - remember the reaction to glass-holes? I'm glad it doesn't stick out, only now wish I'd gotten the SS instead of SG :(

Some of these stories are taking me back to 2007 when I bought a first gen iPhone. I remember texting someone in Whole Foods and a teenager walking up and saying "wow, you have an iPhone!" lol.

Agree that in 2-4 years a ton of people will have these and no one will care.

I flew to California and back last week and used my boarding passes that were loaded into Passbook. All 3 TSA agents and 3/4 Southwest Gate agents commented on it. I got everything from "That's really cool!" to "That's the first time I've seen that." to "You just made my day!". I even heard one gate agent yelling to a coworker about it as I walked down the jetway. They were all impressed.

I've had a couple people notice that I was wearing one and ask me how I liked it. I had one lady at work ask me 1000 questions about it. Overall Im not flashy about it like look at me i have an apple watch. I wont say anything unless someone asked me about it

Like with everything I buy from Apple, I absolutely HATE being questioned on the street, or even by people I know, about what it is/does. I really don't like talking tech with people. It has joined religion and politics in the list of things I don't talk about at the table or at family gatherings. You can't tell anyone what you use or what you like without somebody wanting to butt in and tell you why you're wrong or what you SHOULD be using or why Apple sucks.

The cool thing about the Apple Watch is that I think it's pretty unobtrusive and just looks like a normal watch when it happens to catch peoples' eye. So far I haven't had anyone ask me about it except for a couple of family members who already knew I bought it and just wanted to know if I was happy with it. (I am 100% happy with it.)
