I would be ok if they called the iPhone the Apple Phone and branded it with the watch style logo. I mean there's a large Apple on the back of them. It'd make sense.

Still no real reactions up here in NYC (Bronx area).

We went to a Gymboree class with my 15 month old daughter somewhere in Westchester, and I was really dreading that. But, shockingly, no one noticed or said anything to me.

Then when we were leaving, my wife said to her friend and her friend's husband, oh how did you like Mel's Apple Watch? Son of a *****. Now I had to go and explain it to them, etc.

Then goes to the next round of questions.

Him:How much does it cost?
Me: It starts at $350.
Him: Oh, that's how much yours cost?
Me: Nah.
Him: How much does your's cost?
Me: It starts at $350.

LOL :).

It is always hard to explain the apple watch to people. At least those people who have never owned a smart watch.

"What does it do?"....

The bagger at the grocery store asked if I had the Apple Watch when I paid using Apple Pay. I said yep. Then he asked how much it was. I told him $399. Then he brought up the gold/red one that costs $17,000. I gave him the tip about buying a SS then paying a company to aftermarket plate with gold for a fraction of the cost.

I hate how people instatly equate the apple watch as the one that costs $17,000! Drives me crazy- there are cheaper models people!!

At Sprouts using Apple Pay ..cashier "that is just (gasp)" as I hold the watch to the reader...then.."I don't need one but I want one" :)

So you are saying a wealthy, successful business man is going to aspire to buy an Apple Watch over a high end Rolex? LMAO!!!! wait, let me catch my breath...LMAO!!!! Some of you are straight up delusional.

You have to understand that if you are talking TIMEPIECES, yes, Rolex is the brand. You can also buy a cheap timepiece for $10. The Apple Watch is not a timepiece, though it does tell time. It's a Smart Accessory, So comparing an Apple Watch to a Rolex is not a proper comparison.

Maybe iWatch would have been better. I have a few Apple products and I don't know but always thought the "i" in iPhone, iPod, iPad stood for individual!?
So why not iWatch?!

And they could have simplified the different watches by iWatch Sport, iWatch Steel and iWatch Gold

I thought the "i" meant internet? Because when Steve Jobs launched the iMac, he stated the i stood for internet. iPhone, iPod, iPad all connect to the internet as a standalone device. Unfortunately the Apple Watch cannot connect to the internet without a iPhone. That's my theory as to why it is not called an iWatch. :)

Well, you're really lucky then. Where I live, there are only a few places I can use Apple Pay. Ralphs doesn't take it, neither does Albertsons or CVS or most of the places I eat lunch. It's really annoying. Stater brothers does, I don't really like the store but sometimes I shop there just so I can use it. :)

You're lucky you have the option to use Apple Pay at all. Unfortunately Australia is behind the times :( Hopefully we'll get it before the end of the year :)

The iPod didn't connect to the internet when it first came out. :)

The "I" meant inteligent ie Intelligent phone

I've had a few people notice. I had one person ask me why did I "need" it? Need? I said it wasn't a need, it was a "want". Lol then she went on to complain about the price, I reminded her that it probably wasn't much more than her Coach or Michael Kors watches, and it did much more. Then there was silence

I wore the Samsung gear over a yr and never had many reactions like the ones from my AW. Mine is the white sports model. I love it.

Don't have one but do own multiple mechanical watches and am always seeing what everyone else is wearing while out and about. So far in Portland and on a recent trip to DC, I've noticed 2 total. One in each region. With zero fanfare/attention.

At Pf Changs earlier as soon as we were seated my watch was noticed by the hostess. She asked how I'm liking it so far and tells me she wants the rose gold one :)

I think that would sound ok too, but it would have to come with a MAJOR re-design. They'd have to market it as a completely new kind of cellphone that really has a new wow factor rather than just an upgraded iPhone for the renaming to make sense. Also, it would beg the question of Apple Pad (doesn't sound so great), Apple Tunes, Apple Pod (?!)...

Possible, but AFAIK, 'iWatch' already registered by someone else, another reason why Apple don't use it.

I'm still in high school. Anyway this happened a few days ago.
I was in class and a teacher (that taught me last year) a few doors down came into my classroom looking for me. Thought it was something to do with fixing the Mac Lab for the Design classes (I've had to help a few times), but I was wrong.
She just said: "Apparently you've got a Apple Watch, is it true?"
So I spent about the 10 minutes of class showing this teacher the Apple Watch and how it works. The kids in my class were just going at me like what the heck?
Other than that, kids around my school have come up to me wanting to see it, either loving it or saying it's a s**ty device. Had a few teachers asking what Watch I got etc. and if it's worth it.
Believe I'm the only one in my school with one. I'm only Grade 11.

Lol how hot was she? Rose gold ain't gonna pay for itself. Perhaps some sugar daddy subsidization is required.

I kid. I kid.

Spending Money

Now that would have irritated me. I have never explained to anyone why I choose to spend my hard earned money the way I do. It's not something they are entitled to know

And it's quite incredible how many people off their opinions on the fact you bought it. I never seen anything like it, it's insanely rude.

It's kind of like the iPad where the first month, you could walk into any store and buy one, and then it was consistently backordered for the next 6 months after that once enough of them got out and people who didn't care began to play with them.

A week after the original iPad came out, I was at a gathering where a Google employee was pissing all over my iPad. His 7 year old son comes over and instantly understood how to find and launch games on it. They spent the rest of the night playing board games together on it. I never heard a peep from him about Apple after that.

My friends didn't care for the Apple watch at all, even after they saw it at an Apple Store. But then after they played with the demo units, they suddenly had to have it. People don't know what they want until you show it to them.

A lot of truth here. The watch is very much like the iPad in that most people could not see the value/use case until it was in the wild for a while.

Also it's good we have kids in the world to cut through the fanboyism and just gravitate to the best technology regardless of whose logo is on the back.

----------

Haven't had too many people notice my watch, but the UPS guy at the pickup counter sure noticed the long box. As he handed it to me he said "So, what do you need the watch for?" Unfazed, I answered "to use as a WATCH. And a few other things". Then he said "I ask everyone who picks up one of these that question."

Such a pointless question from him, but I didn't let it phase me.

I suspect the term "iWatch" sounds a bit too geeky & techy. They want this to be a piece of jewlery that just to happens to be a smart watch.

I personally thing that's why they dropped the "i" and used :apple: instead. It does sound a lot less like a gadget when you call it the :apple: Watch.

I don't know if that's the case. The i stands for 'individual', as in not shared. While there are public phones, work phones, and other types of shared phones to differentiate from an individual's phone, an iWatch or Individual's Watch would be really redundant since normal people don't share watches.

On the iMac it meant Internet, but I believe it was switched to Individual with the first iPod, which couldn't connect to the internet.

I tried it a babies r us. Cashier goes, I ain't seen one of those before. It didn't work though (Apple Pay). The other stores that I tried it in, no one even looked twice LOL.

I've had my watch since 4/30 and I've had at least 10-15 people ask me "Is that the Apple Watch?" All interactions have been positive and no one has hated on it, at least not to my face. I wore my green band for the first few weeks so it's kinda hard to miss. :) (I have a white band on now)
