I don't think there needs to be a "public reaction" to your Apple Watch. If there is, you're probably trying too hard to make it obvious.

I've had mine for 6 days and the only people who have noticed are the people who knew I ordered one.

This thread makes me feel like people are buying it just to show it off and act like they're special because they have one. Like they want the attention, just to prove how cool they are. I mean, do you guys walk into a room and wave it around, like, "hey everyone, check out my new Apple Watch and how awesome it is" or something??

I know people are excited, but man... A lot of this really just comes across as complete smugness. I'm sort of ashamed by it. I just bought one because I wanted one, knowing it's better than my Pebble Steel and that Apple makes very high-quality products

Man some of you guys are getting rock star like reactions. I've gotten a few reactions but nothing over the top.

Some people are generally interested. I've gotten questions like, "Is that the $10,000 one?" and "What can it do?"

Most people don't notice it.

I have the 42mm SS Milanese

Some of the other techie people at work poked fun at me for it, at first, and a lot of others were interested to see what you can do with it. I had to try to come up with a "standard walkthrough" of sorts to show people.

My favorite reaction so far was when I used Apple Pay at Walgreens for the first time. The cashier said something like "never seen that one, before".

Everyone asking how much it costs is pretty annoying though.

If someone tries to buy their coffee with their watch, there's probably going to be some reaction :p

That being said, sometimes you really don't want the Watch to be noticed. Sometimes it's harmless, like some folk are just interested in a small demonstration. Other times in public I avoid consulting it at all if I think it will draw too much attention.

I have no desire to "show it off" and am actually happiest when people don't even notice it. There was still a "reaction" to my having one, though, when someone notices and starts a cascade effect of others wanting to see it. Haha.

Not one person has cared, besides me.

This. I got more of a reaction when I shaved my beard off. I think the only people who get a reaction are the types that go 'look at me and my Apple watch' and wave their arm in the air (or at an Apple pay terminal). It's just a watch, and in the grand scheme of things not a particularly expensive watch.

I had 2 separate people say Apple Watch was gay. I'm not sure why because these same people where ohhing and awwwing over the 360 4 months ago.

I think it mostly has to do with if people like or dislike apple. There isn't much in between.

Completely agree with you here. I feel a bit awkward paying $400 for an imperfect Gen 1 toy that no one really needs....yet I am quite glad to have it and well worth the cost to me. I'm happy that after 3+ weeks no one outside family or a few at work has noticed or said anything.

I disagree about others who enjoy the attention though. Leave them be. To each their own, and I can completely understand if some like to show off their cool new toy to an interested party.

lol ditto! There's that awkward moment when you're trying to raise your arm slowly so they'll get the hint that you're about to pay but it's not so obvious like when you're paying with your phone.

Another thing is for me doing that usually turns the display off. I'm assuming it's due to the height and the fact that it's not facing me. So I have to play mess with it a little.:(:apple:

The "how much was that?" reaction is the most irritating.

That, and "so what do you use it for?", both of which basically imply that Apple Watch owners waste their money.

But I expect that from a few people and don't let it bother me. I work hard for my money and can spend it on whatever I please.

Hah: I had both of those today. First, at Walgreens, the clerk said "That's the first time I've seen that!" As I paid with my watch.

After that, at Whole Foods, the cashier asked me how easy it is to pay so I showed him. Then he asked me how much it is. I haven't quite mastered answering that one yet. This time I said "$600 for this one, but they go down to $350" which the guy seemed to like. I'm not quite sure what people want out of that question...

Yeah true, I guess it would be pretty noticeable when using Apple Pay. Perhaps I overreacted a bit. Sorry guys :)

Whether they know or don't know how much the AW costs, I get the feeling some of them just want to try and make you feel dumb for spending the money. I give them no such pleasure and do it with a big smile. I also tell them it's a value when you add up all the little things it does in addition to being an accurate timepiece. I almost feel like you could volley the question back to them if they're wearing a dumb watch that can only tell time and needs pricey maintenance every so often.

I don't see what's wrong with liking that people, notice the watch and comment on it. People don't buy a Rolex because it tells time.

I'm a hardcore cyclist and most of the people with whom I ride have bikes that cost between 5000-15,000. We all talk about our bikes, because it's our passion.

Also, the more people know about it from current owners, the more may buy it, meaning more of a market developers want to create for, and accessory makers create products.

I work in a jewelry store where people regularly wear $1000 wrist gear. We have a bracelet right now selling for 12,000. Nobody in my circles cares about the Apple watch, most reactions to it are just curious, and questioning how geeky I am...

For some reason people understand spending money on nice clothes, jewelry, cars, sports, etc, but they don't understand that some people choose to spend their money on technology. It's a hobby and a passion just like any other, but for some reason some people look at you like you're crazy when you like to have the latest gadgets.

So true and such a pointless question. It's not like you need to join a secret society with arcane rituals to be allowed to purchase and hence find out the price. Do these people even know the internet exists?

I do find it quite difficult to explain what it does as it's different for everyone. My response now is that it tells the time and pushes important notifications to my wrist for easy assess and that I've not missed a call since buying it.

I wish society were past the point where a passion for the latest technology is still considered "geeky". Most people calling you a geek will be wearing a smartwatch within 2 years.

Yeah and they always ask in that "I'm kinda curious but at the same time don't really care" tone of voice.

I just tell them it allows me to mute all my electronics and get my notifications only through the taps and that it takes my face out of my phone and cuts down on my phone usage. Which is true, my iPhone battery life is way better now.

hah ya. i work with quite a few old people and fashion conscious people. they look at the apple watch with the same face/reaction as google glass. (totally crazy, i know...)

I used my watch yesterday to board a Southwest Airlines flight. While the gate attendant said "oh, neat", the rest of the line was less enthusiastic when the scanner wouldn't read it right away and I was holding up the line. I heard someone from behind me ask "Will it work?" and the reply from another person in line was "Guess not."

Pro tip for using it for boarding passes - hold it close to the scanner and watch where the red lasers beaming on your wrist. Since the screen in smaller, it has to be right under the scanner in an exact location to read.

No one has noticed or commented on mine in public yet, which I actually prefer. As a woman, I don't want the extra attention or the worry that some freak might see me as an easy target. I had someone try to carjack me once for my car, don't need someone trying to do it for my watch. Idiots out there will try to mug someone in broad daylight!

If someone were to ask how much it costs though, a quick "thats a bit of a personal question don't ya think?" would usually leave them agape and not sure how to reply.
