Never understand why people think we "must be rich" to afford $350 to $699 watch, yet someone next to me wearing a $30,000 Rolex is not considered rich. Or who spend $5 a day on Starbucks ($1,825 a year on coffee).

Personally I find it very rude to ask how much people spent on something they're wearing. IMO it falls under the same category as asking what their income is. Show some respect.

I genuinely thought that was an acceptable question in the US. I've been at some very awkward dinners where American visitors have grilled a group of mortified English people about their incomes. A total no no in the UK.

The cost thing annoys me too. If I was off on a £5,000 holiday no one would bat an eyelid, but a £599 watch is seen as verging on immoral.

Really just depends on how you were raised. I'm in the US and my parents taught me to never ask others about income.

Plus a lot of people here in the US have giant egos and have to show off.

So far nobody has given a crap about my Apple Watch, but I sure did freak out a tarantula at a fair with it.

The problem was, he reared up into an aggressive stance at first so his handler started to look concerned and was trying to get it off of me. Maybe he was worried I'd freak out and fling the poor thing, but I was fine. And the spider realized it wasn't anything that was going to harm him so he just settled down and kept crawling on my arm calmly.

Here's a pic of it right after it calmed down and right before it decides to crawl over my watch. I'm disappointed my husband didn't get more photos of us but he was busy talking to the guys with the bugs. They had some sort of scorpion, too, which one of my daughter's friends handled, but I have my limits!

(That's a stainless steel. It looks like a pink sport watch in this pic but it's shiny in person and I think that is what freaked the spider out at first because he probably caught unexpected motion in his reflection as he approached it).

Is that a pink band? I really want a red one but you can't buy them yet :(

A friend of mine took on my watch, liked every feature I demoed her and then in the end say's "its not for me."

Oh what a day.
So? You could probably show me a Samsung Galaxy Optimus Edge SG6 and demo me some cool features and I might say "oh cool I like that" but it doesn't mean it's for me.

But obviously in this case she's wrong. Of course she needs an Apple Watch. I suggest taking her to a try-on appointment at an Apple store. Don't let her reject your offer. If you think she'll say no, tell her it's something else. Shoe shopping? I don't know what females like. Tampons? Whatever. Just do it. If she still doesn't buy one then you've failed as a human being.

It really depends but in general, it is more acceptable to openly talk about income in the US depending on how close you are to the person. I wouldn't ask an acquaintance their income, but I do know all of my close friend's incomes and we have no problem talking openly about it. Same goes for asking people how much things cost. I wouldn't think twice before asking a friend how much they paid for something, but a total stranger? Very rude.

Whoa there. Not looking to start something. I'm not telling her to buy one in any way. Funny how people have sticks up their a****.

I had a customer say to me, "Has anyone told you that you wasted your money?" Seemed like he wanted to ask me that but wanted to phrase it differently. I just said to him, "No, I really don't care what people think of it since it's my money that I earned."

But I really don't understand why people like to ask me how much it costs. Go look it up.

Apple has become like Coldplay. It's cool to hate them and anything they do. But anyway yeah I get some looks but no real bad comment as of yet.

I haven't had a negative reaction yet, but I seem to get asked how much I spent on it a lot, which always feels sorta negative. I love my watch so much but I feel like I have to hide it so people don't judge me for buying myself a nice smart watch. I also work at an Apple retailer so I think I get more questions about it than most people would, since people come in all the time looking to see if we have them in store.

Yes, it's the pink band. I want a red band really badly, too. And a dark blue. So far I've got black, white, pink and blue.

The pink does look like a very faded red at times. It's an interesting color. It blends well with my red, orange and pink clothes that have a slight warm cast to them. It clashes a bit with pinks that tend more toward the cool end of the spectrum.

Hopefully in a few hours at WWDC, Apple announces those extra bands we've seen in pictures but not released yet. Product [RED]!

When people ask about my watch, I tell them proudly. It's only $350. Even if I bought the higher-priced versions, I would not be shy one bit. I'm a sucker for tech gadgets. As is true with many other people, sometimes I spend money on stuff I don't really need. Everybody has their geek purchases; some waste money on hooking up cars, some on expensive purses, some on golf clubs, some on weekly bar nights, etc. It's all about one's passion.

A few anecdotes:

2 people I cycle with noticed it, but just "Oh, that's the Apple Watch"
Yesterday, in a restaurant I was demonstrating SIRI to a friend in how I responded to a text message. The people around me looked at me strangely, but being in Canada, it was all very polite.
A few more asked "How do you like the AW?"

Observations and common responses so far per experience.

-more older people had noticed my watch than people within my age group or young people. (>50:60%, 30-50:10%, 20-30:15%, <20:15% babies included lol)

-top three most common question: "is that the _____(iPhone watch, iwatch, ewatch, Samsung watch etc)?", "how do you like it?" And "how much is it?". Honourable mention - "so what does it do that its so expensive?"

- strangers want to try it on. Kids want to see Mickey. Old people want a dick Tracy demo. People my age: "I'll wait for version 2", "mechanical watches are still better", "not for me".

- " will you recommend it? ". Silence.

I had one friend question, "Isn't that thing super expensive?" I didn't want to share how much I spent, I just told them that they start at $349. I was also raised to never ask the price someone spent on something.

Only one person that wasn't a family member or friend noticed my watch. It was at a home improvement store. They didn't question about the watch, but they were staring at me while I was holding it up to my face. (I'm sure I looked pretty goofy.) :D

I'm not complaining though, I bought it because I'm a technology geek , not to show off.

PF Changs? Seriously, lol hahahahah, that's like dining at Panda Express or Pei Wei. Hahahaha. Sorry I couldn't help myself.

To be fair, it's more like Panda Express served on plates by waiters, thus making it more expensive.
