I was at tjmaxx yesterday looking for crazy socks, and this dude approached me and started a conversation. Talked about how crazy socks are the new thing and there's a bunch of them at nordstroms lol. Then he asked me is that the apple watch? He says he doesn't really care for other smart watches but the apple watch is the one that caught his attention. I showed him around then asked, so you're planning on getting one? He said, he's more of a Samsung guy and pulled out a Samsung phone. Uh yea ok haha.

No one noticed for the first three days, then I was talking to a teacher in a classroom when a kid shouted "he's got an apple watch!" which led to 20 kid crowding round me to see! Quite a few of the folks at work have noticed and the reaction can be summed up as "looks really good, bit nerdy, but I want one! not at that price though..."

I originally had the Space Grey Sport (which I sold), my SS Milanese arrived Thursday... Everyone I work with has had a much bigger reaction to the Stainless with Milanese, the primary reaction being "how much?" and "you must be rich!" (Which I definitely am not lol). I find the "rich" comments a little strange, because I paid almost the same for my Watch and my iPhone 6 Plus, but it didn't receive reactions like this when I got it.

People assume that because it's new that it must be priced out of the affordable range for most people when in reality it probably costs as much as the unsubsidized price of the smartphone in their pocket and less than a 55" smart tv. The "you must be rich" reaction seems to be common with new products. Not sure why. As for why you didn't get the reaction on the space grey, that color doesn't stick out as much and it doesn't look as "classy" and I think it's more discreet.

Tried using at McDonald's drive through but they either werent setup for it or the cashier was not trained so the Manager just comped the meal to keep the line moving. Thinking they also may have Service Level Agreements with Apple.

Stopped in at local Micro Center to get some supplies and the guy that had just helped me locate something asked the usual "Is that the apple watch" and then just stood there with his mouth open....staring quietly. So I offered up a few reasons why it is useful to me and walked away slowly....never turning my back.

While getting coffee today, the two people behind the counter asked me if my watch tracked my eyes to turn on the screen. I laughed thinking it was a joke; it wasn't. One guy, one gal. The guy was really blown away it could turn on with the flick of my wrist. The gal said she'd never wear it but didn't know a thing about it or what it can do. Neither did he, come to think of it. When I told them both about a few of the things it can do, they perked up. They both asked how much it cost me; I'm beginning to think it's slightly less of a jerk question to ask and could indicate they're legit interest after I gave them my elevator pitch for it. They didn't seem to care about holding up the line through all of this.

So when people ask "what does it do?", what do you guys say?

My biggest headline to people is this:
My watch has liberated me from my phone. I'm more present now.
That usually leads to questions about how it does that, which is where I jump into using the watch as a finely tuned bouncer for only the most important notifications, not worrying about missing stuff like calls or texts anymore, can control music library, yada yada yada. I also say (not in these exact words) it's a versatile, modern, beautiful, accurate timepiece that does a reasonably good job as a motivational fitness tracker you'll actually want to keep using and wearing. I could write more, but that's the cruising altitude spiel.

I've had my watch since Monday and today is the first time that I got any reaction to it. However I am the kind of person who just doesn't want attention... but I kind of knew it would happen. One of the reasons I swapped out the Blue Sport band is because it stood out so much, black not so much. So anyway today it happened twice. Once when I went to pick up my prescriptions at Walmart. The lady asked me "Is that a Smartwatch?" I told her it's the Apple Watch and she was acting like I was some kind of celebrity or something. She kept on saying she's never seen anyone with it before, it's the first time, and so on. And then the standard fare questions of what does it do, do I like it, etc. Then it happened again from our waiter at the Chinese Restaurant. He kept on asking me if it could be used as a phone in which I said yes but you need iPhone 5 or 6, and he couldn't really grasp the fact of why it did. As I mentioned I am not one for any kind of attention, I just like to go about my business. I literally try and keep my left hand low so no one will notice, lol.

So far nobody has given a crap about my Apple Watch, but I sure did freak out a tarantula at a fair with it.

The problem was, he reared up into an aggressive stance at first so his handler started to look concerned and was trying to get it off of me. Maybe he was worried I'd freak out and fling the poor thing, but I was fine. And the spider realized it wasn't anything that was going to harm him so he just settled down and kept crawling on my arm calmly.

Here's a pic of it right after it calmed down and right before it decides to crawl over my watch. I'm disappointed my husband didn't get more photos of us but he was busy talking to the guys with the bugs. They had some sort of scorpion, too, which one of my daughter's friends handled, but I have my limits!

(That's a stainless steel. It looks like a pink sport watch in this pic but it's shiny in person and I think that is what freaked the spider out at first because he probably caught unexpected motion in his reflection as he approached it).

Look at it this way, these people who give you grief will likely spend more on alcohol or cigarettes in a year than you did for your watch. And the watch is obviously better for your health. :D

Lol i spend more on starbucks in a year than the apple watch costs.

(i gotta cut down on my coffee breaks...)

Played golf yesterday with the husband of my wife's good friend. He had his Garmin gps watch and I had my Apple Watch running Golfshot app. We both got accurate yardage within a few seconds of checking, but I was also able to send and receive several texts with my wife and daughter (her birthday), check my steps and calories, see weather patterns and keep my score. My watch, unlike his Garmin, also gave me yardages to various hazards and targets. He was so impressed he's going to buy one for himself, his kids and his wife. First, however, he has to upgrade from his iPhone 4s because I told him that's not compatible with the Watch.

"Is that the apple iWatch?" (Cringe) yes.
"Oh cool an apple watch... I was in the mall looking at prices, they go up to like $17k... Who would pay that much for a watch!?" (Not you cashier, not you.) right?

It's like having the first iPhone all over again, except it's strapped to my wrist, instead of glued to my hand.

I asked my internist if he was interested in it (he loves health gadgets). He said,"No, it's too nerdy." Then I had it by the time I went in for my physical. Different story. I bet he has one by now. Heh heh heh. Apple should pay me.

I am really curious to find out how the people in my village will respond to seeing my future Apple Watch in person (it isn't yet being sold in my country, unfortunately). Not to talk down on anyone but most people from this place are a little shortsighted. I assume most people will say stuff like: "What do you need a smartwatch for? You already have a smartphone..", "that thing is a complete waste of money. Should've given it to me instead!" and "lol loser might as well strap a phone to your wrist k bye."

I will be bluntly surprised by anything other than that.

People think its really cool - until I tell them the price and they say they can get cheaper watches elsewhere etc.. I just think the price is the main thing that puts people off. I always remind them of the Sport and they seem to think about it.

Mine arrives tomorrow and I'm already feeling a bit self-conscious about having bought it; if people start asking questions there's a good chance it'll be heading back to Apple within the fortnight! I do want the watch but I am a bit put off by the untested, first generationness of the thing.

I'm contemplating not really wearing it to work until after the summer break (I work in education); if it does what I want it to do (motivates me to keep moving to help me lose weight) by then being an early adopter will make clear sense by then. If not, well then I probably won't be wearing it anyway.

So far I've had a few looks at my wrist, and get asked all the time how much I spent.

Never understand why people think we "must be rich" to afford $350 to $699 watch, yet someone next to me wearing a $30,000 Rolex is not considered rich.

Personally I find it very rude to ask how much people spent on something they're wearing. It falls under the same category as asking what their income is. Show some respect.

Guess I was just raised with old fashioned manners. :)
