That's a pretty poor analogy. It's more like, every time you fill your car up with gas you have to do an oil/filter change and rotate the tires. Why?
Other jailbreak versions allow you to do so without restoring the phone and having to reinstall/reset all of your preferences/settings.
FWIW, in the process of upgrading now, mainly for HDR and airtunes. With that said, not only will I have to redo all my settings, but it's taken nearly an hour to download/install everything.

That's like saying that it's a shame you have to shift your brand new Ferrari by hand when your Ford Focus had an automatic transmission.
