Is it me, the picture or...
Does the S look like a Samsung Galaxy S font?
HA!
So a bit more than half the Android phones sold in the US in Q2 were 4.5" or more. If I am not mistaken, not one of the new Android phones release in Q2 2013 sported a screen smaller than 4.5" - Your conclusion makes some sense, until you analyze the data.
Verizon has 27 different Android "phones" online right now. 3 are preorder (Note 3, Gear, Note 3/Gear combo) - So that is 24.
Removing the 4 pre-owned and one out of stock brings the total down to 19.
Number with a screen size smaller than 4.5"?
7 (including the 4.3" Droid "mini")
7/19= 36%
So 36% of the Verizon Android smartphones are 45% of the sales, and 64% of the Android smartphones represents 55% of the sales.
Going further, and looking at the iPhone being the single best selling phone.
So your statement of more people wanting a larger phone is already a weak, at best, statement.

I think Sven is probably right...
http://www.statista.com/topics/840/smartphones/chart/1396/android-phone-sales-by-screen-size/
"...According to data provided by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, only 16% of Android smartphones sold in the United States between April and June this year were equipped with screens smaller than 4 inches in diagonal. More importantly, 55 percent of Android phones sold sported significantly larger screens of 4.5 inches or more"
That was published within the past 2 weeks. I don't know how fair the survey was, but I believe the basic conclusion - many consumers want larger screens.
