LOL

The Accountant King is really executing Steve's vision faithfully.

I'm sure that Steve would have happily stood on stage at a WWDC and said "We noticed that we have a bunch of unsold inventory of a bad, overpriced 4-year-old computer so we're just going to wait till it all sells at full price. You guys should see the MARGINS we're getting! LOL KTHXBYE"

Have you tried a 2017 Model iMac? Much brighter and do quite well in a well lit room.
Not currently in the market to upgrade. I'm just saying in general terms.

I seriously doubt the 2017 iMac would work for my office. We are talking 8 windows behind me with direct sunlight often on my screen. I don't believe anything but a matte screen would work for me.

If Apple didn't cripple eGPU support on 10.13.14 I'd probably have just gotten one for my 2012 Quad Core i7 Mac Mini, but now I'm hoping they release a new one soon with TB3

My guess is the new one will still have a 1TB 5400rpm spinning drive and only 4X TB3 ports and Intel Iris Graphics.

what I am afraid of, is, before the switch to intel, Apple let many of their PowerPC computer unchanged for a while, and then when then new intel cpu came in they said : "Look it is faster than previous model"... This long wait with any update on Mac mini and Mac Pro coud be history repeating itself.

After the ridiculous Mac Pro news, perhaps they realized that silence would be more dignified.

Nah ... I'm not giving "THIS" Apple that much credit at all. They just simply forgot about it. Isn't it criminal they STILL sell a 3.5yr old hardware as NEW in all their stores?!

I'm going to say it: the day Apple updates the Mac mini, if that day comes, I'll order one on day one. Just for the sake of it.

^ "I'm doing my part!"

The return on a $600 Mini isn't enough for Apple. They'd rather people buy a Macbook or an iMac.

Put Your Hand on that Waaaall!!

You're just thinking about the immediate revenues: Hardware. You need to think about the long game, which is services revenues: Apple Music, iCloud paid storage, iMessages add-ons (the ones that cost the user), OSX and all services that come with it not already mentioned, increasing the ecosystem user growth. Then more services come out and thus reciprocal more users by into paid services.

You read it here first- Mac Mini is waiting for ARM. It'll be the first guinea pig.
That wouldn't surprise me at all, especially since Apple is bowing out of server support. I've been running a 2012 Mac Mini server, and it's been rock solid all these years. That's why the announcement of a new Mac Pro surprised me; I fully expected them to get out of the pro market entirely.

Putting an A chip in a Mini would make it a decent low-cost introductory Mac for the masses. Just add a keyboard and mouse and hook it up to an HDTV.

It's definitely dead. Per the latest update, Apple is getting rid of OS X Server, which is what the Mac Mini would normally be used for.

I honestly think it’s dead. You don’t leave it 3.5 years if it’s in your future plans. 5% chance it’s being left alone so it can be the test case for an A series processor.

Mac Mini is an awesome product. Not sure why Apple neglects it.
Well I do, iMac makes up the vast majority of their desktop sales.
But should be pretty straightforward to update.

Like a low cost MacBook, I could see an ARM based Mac mini close to the size of the Apple TV that runs an iOS/MacOS hybrid, priced around $249

I still love my 2012 Mac Mini. I keep meaning to throw an SSD in it, but that's not trivial - so I keep putting it off.
I set up an external SSD and run my 2012 Mac Mini from that. You lose a little compared to an internal SSD, but you gain a huge amount getting away from the spinner.

Mac Mini seems so easy to update. I wonder what’s taking them so long. It already looks nice. Tweak the design a bit and update the internals and ports and voila!

If Apple is redesigning Mac mini, at least do a small spec bump in the interim. At the very least, restore the quad core CPU option and support 4K at 60 Hz.

Indirectly, Apple today has implied when the next Mac mini will arrive: 2020.

Think about it. The next Mac Pro is now slated for sometime in 2019, and you can bet your mousepad that it's going to be 3rd or 4th quarter of 2019.

There's no way in a Cupertino Loop that Apple is going to release a new Mac mini before the new Mac Pro- even if it is ready.

So the wait (for those who believe in miracles) goes on... no new Mac mini for another 2 years....

Problem is that there is no spec bump in the same Intel family and packaging that is quad core or supports 4k@60Hz. A redesign is necessary to use something other than 4 year old technology.
