We have been working on this, believe me. I have been piddling around modding little bits of ATY_Init to make the ioregistry report look like one from Spanky's WORKING 5970. So far, no luck.

Netkas has sent me several modded versions as well. End result continues to be a train wreck.

I am so eager to eventually see my 5870 boot to pristine screen !!!

I bought this thing right after they came out, going on a year ago. It has been sitting in it's box, waiting for OSX support. So, a long time coming.

Is there any way for you to make your machine id as a Mac Pro 4,1 instead of an iMac?

Rominator, I think you mentioned before that you did get your 5870 working briefly but had the same strange finder and system preferences problems that I originally had. Netkas linked a 5970 archive in his site's comments section which fixed these for me. Maybe give that a try?

I don't see why not. Right now it thinks it's a current-gen iMac. I'll play with MultiBeast when I get home tonight. At work right now, so give me a few hours. Thanks for the reply, good to know you guys are still cracking away at it.

Edit: Ok, my Hack now thinks that it's a MacPro 4,1

Any change in 5870 ?

Can you look in ioregistryexplorer? It is in Developer folder, if you installed it.

I have an original MP 1,1 and an ATI 5750 if anyone wants me to test anything...

And I'll be getting a 5770 on monday... ;)

Netkas would be best to ask this question.

On his site he says his current 57xx kexts are Hack only. If he doesn't have one ready for Mac Pro, I can mod the 5870 one. Doubtful you will get a good result at get-go but might be a good learning experience.

If he doesn't post something here for you, I will cobble one together from his works.

Thanks, well I played around with the kexts a little and I got the card to be recognized properly in the profiler, but no output so far...

Please be specific, it will help others.

Did you add device id to the ATIx3000 kext and the ATI5000controller kext?

Here are the ids from one of them:

0x68881002 0x68891002 0x68981002 0x68991002 0x689C1002 0x689D1002 0x68801002 0x68901002 0x68A81002 0x68A91002 0x68B81002 0x68B91002 0x68BE1002 0x68A01002 0x68A11002 0x68B01002 0x68B11002 0x68C81002 0x68C91002 0x68D81002 0x68D91002 0x68DE1002 0x68C01002 0x68C11002 0x68D01002 0x68D11002 0x68E81002 0x68E91002 0x68F81002 0x68F91002 0x68FE1002 0x68E01002 0x68E11002 0x68F01002 0x68F11002

That's what I did. ;)

I added 0x68BE1002 (Which is the Dev. ID of my card...)

Lol this is just funny.. You know if you have the 5870 working.. I dont know maybe just tell people what kext you used, if you added any ID or booted 32bit.. simply things to help others.. same for 5770, 5980 and so on.. REALLY makes it easier then other that keep asking for help and no one helps..

1. NOBODY HAS A 5xxx WORKING WITH 3D ON A REAL MAC.

2. THEY ONLY HAVE WORKED PERFECTLY ON A HACKINTOSH

3. WE ARE STILL TRYING TO GET THEM WORKING, TROLLS POSTING COMPLAINTS DON'T HELP ANYONE

4. IF YOU WANT TO HELP, GET ONE AND START FOLLOWING THE PROCESS, TESTING AND REPORTING RESULTS INSTEAD OF WHINING THAT WE HAVEN'T DELIVERED AN ANSWER YET.

5. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO GET ONE WORKING ON A HACKINTOSH, YOU ARE ON THE WRONG SITE. GO TO INSANELY MAC, LOTS OF SUCCESS STORIES THERE.

I am still working with Netkas trying things he is writing. It is a slow, laborious process with him spending hours writing code and me spending minutes testing it. When someone has first Mac 5xxx FULL SUCCESS it will be news, and I hope to be the one to post it. But it is doubtful that a whinny troll is going to help anywhere in the process.

Progress! Kinda..

Now the Card is actually doing something. When the card is in, the system boots, but it hangs right before login... It displays light blue on all screens... So does the 7300GT....

I can boot fine if only the 7300 is in, but with the 5750 alone or with both of them - blue screens....

Incorrect Framebuffer maybe?

EDIT:

Appears I made a little mistake:

I'll try again...

Stay tuned ;)

No luck...

I either get the scrambled screen or KP and curtain at boot...
I managed to get it to work properly in terms of resolution etc. It even works as a secondary output, but the system is extremely unresponsive. And aside from System Profiler nothing would open.... and eventually the system would hang....

There must be something else wrong here... either drivers or framebuffer or whatever, because I noticed that the Card would get extremely hot when OSX is loaded....

Any input?

@ Rominator:

I don't think it's a problem with the cards or their firmware, since I was able to reproduce every single problem you had with your 5870 with my 5750....

No change, doing the same stuff. I did not install Developer, but I can try later. Again, slacking off and posting from work. Will edit with update.

getting blue screen kp on boot with all kexts installed, 5870

getting black output on 5870 without x3000

Allright, dudio, you should at least be able to get it working as Framebuffer like me.

Which ATY_Init are you using?

Which display & connector?

I'm going to email you a special ATY that The God Netkas did for me yesteday. Didn't work for me, but should have.

actually scratch my earlier report, 5870 gives output on both ports without x3000. Dvi to Hdmi also works. Just no QECI.
