future proof is a myth. unless you're the type of person who uses the computer until physically breaks or can no longer run any website smoothly which is about 10+ years give or take, the computer itself will be "obsolete" even if you have the highest end options ticked and you have to buy a replacement computer. Is it future proof? Unless something change in management, this is highly unlikely (at least for MBPs) cause Apple always prefer for energy efficient then RAW power. None of the NVidia 10-series GPU operates at a TDP close to the Radeon Pro 460 and I don't think NVidia care so much about making their chips more power efficient vs powerfulI really hope Apple utilizes nvidia chips in the next iteration
It isn't even present proof given that nvidia has already released some amazing desktop level performance chips this year. It is a pretty significant leap as far as mobile GPUs go, totally outclassing the ones present in the mbps.
I really hope Apple utilizes nvidia chips in the next iteration, I would probably buy in and USB C should be more mainstream then.
Or they're not aware of what's the TDP difference between Radeon Pro and Nvidia 10-series. I used to be one of themI could be wrong, but whenever someone says "I wish they used Nvidia" on these forums, I always imagine they are talking about gaming performance.
People should realize that a certain segment (quite wide, face it) of professionals need power and not efficiency.
And that's why I said Apple should officially give a thumbs up on 3rd party eGPU solutions, probably by opening up API in OSX to make it possible but driver support and eGPU related support fall on the manufacturer and not AppleMaybe it's not clear enough that a lot of people weren't really bothering with Energy efficiency for the simple reason they belong to the category "most of the time the laptop is powered" rather than the "i'm running on battery".
And they do care about horsepower, not fuel saving. And they were asking for it.
And they still do. Wow/Dota2/Other stuff are just softwares that run occasionally on their machine, while the same can't be said for AE PR PS C4D.
People should realize that a certain segment (quite wide, face it) of professionals need power and not efficiency.
Oh rly?People should realize that Apple never made laptops for that certain segment.
Computers last 5 years. End of story. If it's not broken or outdated by then, Apple will introduce a mandatory OS update that will break it or make it so slow as to be useless. You're buying a new computer in 5 years regardless what spec you get now.

Outclassing at what, exactly? For 35W cards, I don't think you can find better. I don't hope Apple utilizes Nvidia chips in the next iteration, I hope they utilize the most efficient ones (whether that's Nvidia or AMD), with the best OpenCL/Metal performance - like they did this year.
I could be wrong, but whenever someone says "I wish they used Nvidia" on these forums, I always imagine they are talking about gaming performance.
Oh rly?
And how would define the one i have in signature? Gaming oriented?
Cm'on, let us have a fat laugh, it's needed.
Why does it need to be 35W? Are the new Nvidia mobile chips in razer for example really that terribly inefficient that they cannot function well in a slim machine?

Apple easily could have gone with Nvidia chips, they would maybe have had to retain the form factor of the previous model but it would have meant a lot better performance overall, especially on adobe software and games.
And what we're desperately trying to tell you is that quite a wide audience of users (those who are actually whining) is disappointed because being slim & energy efficient is not what they needed and most of all what their laptop were when they bought them.Look, I'm not criticizing anyone who prefers performance, I'm just saying Apple is not aiming for that.
Would you mind telling us what kind of users are you? What softwares you run / what kind of work you do / etc?
Because you really sound like a prosumer that is the main target of this MBP.

The 750m wasn't the most powerful? True, but it was light years ahead in terms of performance compared to AMD because of CUDA. From the way you speak you've never, NEVER seen how CUDA impacts (compared to OpenCL) in tasks under AE / PR and in general the whole Adobe suite.

I'll sum it up: prosumers/professionals will be fine with most of the specs/options, but the top specs don't fit the category of really demanding users, and these users are those that would have loved to have something more (like the 32Gbs of RAM) that others couldn't care less (those who are fine with 16) but for them are crucial. It may feel that way...

The funny thing is that it you should be using a Win based system with such applications, not a Mac. And you know it![]()
So you put me in the category of the haters. The best definition of myself is, having worked a lot on both systems and also in other os environments (for example irix but i'm pretty much sure you don't know what it is, on what machines it ran and for what kind of software it was used), is "i express criticism where needed because i use this for a living" and guess what? In the past 6 years OSX was -THE- choice for me for a lot of reasons and because yes there are exclusives in the mac workflow and the OS itself is something that keeps me away from Win.
