I walked into my local radio shack on 9/28 at around 4pm in hopes of them having some in stock.. They didn't.
The sales consultant let me know about the $50 deposit (aka just a gift card) that would insure that I would have my phone the following week on Wednesday or Thursday(being today or tomorrow)

I listened to all of this while at the same time another sales consultant was telling a customer that she had to buy apple care on the day of purchase of phone and that day only. I don't believe this to be true. This made me skeptical but I pressed on and just per ordered it.

Wellll........

Today, being 5 days later, I received a call around 2 saying my phone was in and I am going to pick it up tomorrow after class.

I live in a fairly smallish market of 150-160k people in the southern region of America.

This story pains me. 2 weeks after I ordered mine and gave the $50. Oh well, I live in SoCal, so I guess it's quite different here.

congrats.

Congratulations. I unfortunately live in an even smaller market. 20-30k people.

I've been keeping track of this thread for a few days now. I preordered from Radio Shack on 9/16 and they still didn't give me my phone, last week they told me for sure they'd have it today.. In the next hour or so I'll go by and see if they really have my phone or what. So tired of these BS excuses..
I ordered a 16GB Black i5 for Sprint, btw.

I called 5 Radioshacks in the area and had differing answers, but most said they ARE NOT accpeting orders and just put my name on a call list. :(

No luck here. No luck anywhere. You just cannot get one right now -- craziest thing I have ever seen.

Heading over there right now.. I'll keep you guys updated. This is the Radio Shack in Newark, NJ. BTW.

Just called my local RS, and they told me they expect to get their shipment of 32gb in around 2pm. So I will be calling them every hour until then, and so my 3 week wait could finally be over.

This is how I found stock the Monday after release at RadioShack:

www.milo.com

Just search up the iPhone model you are looking for and look for RadioShacks that are listed as in-stock (not call for price).

Ive had my iPhone 5 for about a week now (did in-store pick up on Apple.com) but Im still keeping my RS PO just to see how long it will take.

POd on September 19. Still no call.

Well, I just got back.. & like I expected, they didn't get **** in. Oh well, I canceled my preorder and got my money back. Not sure where I should go searching or if I should try that Apple pick up in store next day thing.

Did anyone receive a call about their PO today?

I don't know if I am one of the lucky ones, but I just got a call from the Radioshack where I placed my pre-order that my phone was in. I placed the pre-order on September 18th, at about 8:00pm for a 16GB Black/Slate model. When I placed my order I did get an e-mail confirmation directly from Verizon Wireless which promised an October 5th delivery date. Worked out to be right as advertised.

Still don't appreciate Radioshack telling me I would have my phone "On Friday, September 21st or Saturday, September 22nd at the latest." I understand that there was a shortage of phones, but if I knew that placing a "pre-order" was going to be the exact same wait as if I had just hopped online on September 18th and ordered directly through Verizon Wireless online I never would have done it.

Happy to have my phone now, but very very poor business tactics by Radioshack. They never really had my business before, but I will never use them again after this runaround they gave me and lots of their customers.

i got mine through radio shack. didn't pre-order it, just called the store and had the manager track one down with POS in the warehouse. Even though they might not have it in the store, they can track what they physically have in stock in the warehouse. Went to the store, paid for it, they shipped it to my house at no charge overnight. Can't say I've ever had a less painless transaction in buying a phone, ever.

UPDATE: went to my appointment at RadioShack, everything was going smoothly until the guy who was helping me received an error message and was told he was using an invalid product code (through Verizon). Waited 45 minutes as he tried different things and tried to call Verizon representatives multiple times with no one answering. He was very apologetic and told me that he would keep calling and then call me when he gets it figured out.

You would think Verizon would have all of this figured out since the phone came out, oh, I don't know THREE WEEKS AGO. Still hoping I get it today but it definitely put a damper on my day.

you should take it to the verizon store. mt att one didn't have the right sim to activate it myself.

I had the same problem with att SIM card. I bought the phone at Walmart and the lady said it should go on soon or I had to call myself. At that point I didn't care I just wanted the phone. Amazing how RS still hasn't gotten the phones yet. My store has yet to call me to see If I still want it

Congrats was it worth the wait. Now I'm waiting for the lightning to 30 pin adaptor to come out do I can use my alarm clock dock again. I hate the short USB cord
