Just to quote this when Apple remove it next year.

Apple invested in the design of the screen with the notch, and they will not change it or modified until they get all the profits. In my opinion the notch is going to be here for 3 years. Next year they will make a bigger version of the iPhone X. Apple knows what the people need, and they are not competing with any one. It took many years until they gave us bigger phones. By the way, Merry Christmas to all!

That’s fine. Quote your heart out but this design is here to stay no matter how much you dislike it.

That’s fine. People also disliked removal of the headphone jack, usb c, etc and yet somehow the sky didn’t fall.

I guess as an android user your fine with your devices looking exactly like the competition.

But anyway it’s Christmas and we both know the sides we are aligned this and you folks can hash it out. I’ve spoken my last word on the entire subject.

Merry Christmas and learn to enjoy things instead of analyzing them to death.

Analyze them to death? Like where?

I am fine with my phone being a lot of thing. But not the notch.

As a smartphone user I have my phone to serve me and to please me. A notch doesn't please me, and I remove it from my list.

Get it?

I was watching a movie on ******* and the notch kept the guys face in the video from entering my imagination.

Why are these losers buying $1000 phones but cannot buy a tv to watch movies. I have it from day 1 never seen anything more than a casual YouTube video. The blue shift initially bothered me way more. I don’t notice it anymore. I love that the area is being used for status info. It’s pretty neat imho,

I think it’s entirely reasonable to own an iPhone X but dislike the notch or certain other aspects of the phone. It’s about the overall experience and no iPhone has been perfect yet. We’ve debated antenna bands, curved edges but if you want an iPhone you have to just look past it.

I dislike the notch from a design point of view. It looks like a compromise to fit around the technology. I am under no illusions in a few years if the notch still exists, it’ll be on a phone I own but that’s life.

Merry Christmas enjoy your days.

I tested my ultimate ears superfi 5 extended bass, and ultimate ears triple 10 wired earphones both are discontinued by the way, and produce an amazing sound with the iPhone x using the cable that Apple provide to connect the headphones. Very happy with the iPhone X and not missing the headphone jack either.

Thanks! Merry Christmas to you!

One of the things that I noted with the iPhone X is an immersive experience. The device pulls all my attention to the screen, I have not experience something like that with any other device. It could be the oled screen with black thin borders around it, I like it. These guys know the art!

Could you elaborate on how you carry that TV when out in your car, at work or perhaps on public transport? Can you buy a special XL backpack designed to accommodate your TV?

Simple, you’re not watching while driving are you? I hope you are not one of those people who watches videos while someone else is driving. Don’t watch tv at work it’s unethical. Buy a tablet and leave it at work for lunch hour watching if you don’t have friends. If you use public transport, god help you. Jk, get a tablet or something bigger I guess it’ll probably weigh an extra pound but will significantly improve your experience. Fire tab 10 is only $150 and 16:9 is better than iPad dimensions for video.

Unfortunately I'm having a bit of a hard time putting my OLED TV into my backpack when going to work. Don't know why, though...

Clearly you haven’t heard of tablets, They seem rather good for consuming media. Probably better strategy than buying a phone that gives you 25 mm extra display space and cry that they took away 5 mm.

You need to ask @thope who his supplier of 55” wide backpacks is ;).

This guy.

I am someone who was critical of the notch on iPhone X before I owned one - but after using for 10 minutes I forgot. I now don’t look at it as a notch taking space from the screen, but as ears for displaying information which would otherwise be lost space.

I don’t normally watch more than a short YouTube video on the iPhone, but yesterday watched a 1 hour TV program on it in bed and honestly the notch did not worry me at all. I was just stunned by the vivid edge to edge display. No going back to the iPhone 7 Plus for me. The X is my favourite iPhone ever.

You know some people have jobs that mean they’re in the car during the day, and sometimes even spend dead time in the car (waiting between appointments or waiting for someone to arrive on site).

Don’t watch tv at work it’s unethical.

See above, there are times when it’s quite allowable.

Buy a tablet and leave it at work for lunch hour watching if you don’t have friends.

What pocket of a suit or work uniform does a tablet fit in for you to carry around while at work?

If you use public transport, god help you.

You know long distance trains or even planes count as public transport?

PS
You’re being quite ignorantly presumptuous there. Many places do have decent public transport and sometimes it’s the only reasonable transport method. Not everywhere is the same as rural USA ;)

You’re back to the “what suit has iPad size pockets?”, (not to mention having the ability to carry a tablet while working) again...

Same here, I thought that I was going to miss the screen size of my iPhone 6 Plus and after 24 hours I'm fine with the X....

Don't have an X, but not because of the notch. For me, the X was too tall and felt awkwardly top-heavy when holding it with one hand. As to the notch, I rather like having that system information up there, out of the main screen area. You'd just have less real display to use if they'd left a horizontal bar all the way across the top of the phone in the sensor area, relegating that system information to the upper area of the display, like on all the other iPhones. Calling it a 5.8" display is a bit of a marketing stretch, though.

Bottom line: I'm hoping they go with the notch for the iPhone 6/7/8 sized phones next year. Gives me more real content to look at without increasing the exterior dimensions of the phone.

So, yesterday I spent some time with a Samesung 8. I was amazed that some Samesung users complain about the iPhone X sensor housing when 20% of the entire screen on the Samesung is completely and unnecessarily distorted past the point of practicality.

Those curved edges accomplish precisely nothing but distortion. Looks like it was designed by a drunken Dali wannabe.

Unlike the sensor housing, this just can't be unseen. Jawdroppingly stupid.

I use an s8 Plus for work, that description doesn’t sound anything like reality, firstly the edge is nowhere near 20% of the screen (maybe 2%) and it’s perfectly legible on my phone, I even view pdf work documents on it and they can be read from edge to edge.

I do still prefer the simplicity of iOS, it’s why my personal phone is an iPhone, but your description is really far from reality.

I don’t understand why you would want to spend any time time with a phone that you call a Samesung.

Just as an FYI to show @Archer1440 apparently has some form of ocular degeneration.

These aren’t screenshots, they’re quick and dirty photos with the iPad.

Edge to edge is perfectly legible and viewable.

Criticise the other products, by all means, but don’t make up ridiculous stories to do so...

Going from this image, the curves are about 25% total. Granted only about 20% of the edge actually experiences distortion, it’s not a huge deal but distortion is definitely there. I have an s7 edge and I can see the distortion pretty clearly and it’s noticeable while reading websites with little text zoomed all the way to the edges.

No big deal but this was pure form over function in my opinion. It got people talking about the s6 though, caught people’s attention for sure. So, good for sammy. Never was intended to be a functional enhancement.

I can’t speak for the S6 or S7 edge as I have never used them, all I’m saying is that the s8 Plus is nothing like his description. The edge is only about 5mm of each side and does not display any distortion in use, not even for reading technical drawings like building plans.

PS
Those lines in your image don’t actually correspond to the edge area on the actual phone.

Here’s edge to edge text, no distortion.

by the way, your image isn’t even of the actual S8, it’s a mock up render from 2 months before release.
