I want the Midnight Air to replace my 2016 Pro. The extra ram is so expensive, though. I produce & mix music.

Here, the M1 MBA‘s price was increased by roughly 100 Euros along with the announcement of the M2 MBA. Not impressed with that, tbh.

As for the M2 MBA - looks cool, I like the design. I’m a little disappointed about the color selection. I was really hoping for the iMac-like colors and personally, I would have loved the white bezels and keyboard. But I’m happy for the people hoping for more “professional“ looking machines - this is going to be one hell of a portable machine.

I’m not so happy about the price - it’s the equivalent of 1600 Euros here and that’s still with 8GB RAM - which, while likely enough for the majority of users, is starting to seem a bit strange in 2022 and especially at that price.

by that 20% more, you get better SoC, better design, better and brighter display, faster storage, lighter , better camera, better speakers

Don’t forget that this is all on top of supply chain issues that have been driving prices through the roof.

A 20% increase with massive supply constraints, the worst inflation in decades, and improvements across the board. And still there will be those that complain no matter what.

It looks good, but I'm going to wait.

I was considering swapping my existing M1 Air with 8GB of ram and 512GB of storage for a 16GB M2, but £1,749 isn't worth it. The performance improvements don't look that big and, for my use, I doubt I would notice them.

I've already got a magnetic USB-C charging cable that does the same thing as MagSafe.

I'll see what prices are like on the used market in the next few months and, if I get a deal, I might upgrade.

is not for you
Is for those with still intel inside, and for those M1 MBA users that wanted the extra Ram

It's mainly a form factor change if we are being honest

Bringing out "the latest internals" doesn't count for much in my book

That's table stakes to do every 18-24 months on all machines

Nothing wrong with what they did -- but nothing to really gush over here.

And you continue to ignore that supply chain costs and inflation can easily make up the entirety of that increase. If you don’t think apples shipping and supply procurement costs in combination with inflation makes up a large chunk of this, you are kidding yourself. Covid is not over, and is still causing factory shut downs. War is further disrupting supply chains and food sources.

So what? Apple should just eat those costs so that you don’t see price increases on disposable consumer luxury goods?

I think it looks really cool and it is great to see MagSafe back on all 'new' laptops now. I do miss that from my silver bezelled 2014 air. However, I'm typing this on my M1 Air and have no desire to upgrade what so ever. This machine is a 'general' machine - at a base spec - which lets me do stuff the iPad doesn't.

The new M2 has the media engine built in, so a lot of improvements in the video/photo workflows but I don't think it'll help my budgetting spreadsheets or trackers! This might bring it fairly close to the M1Pro SoC, at a (slightly) cheaper cost.

At 1.13cm thin, it really is a slim device. I can't wait to see some hands on reviews (I'm looking at you Rene and Marques).

Midnight color looks awesome, the notch... kills it in a bad way.
I thought that it would be an issue till I had an M1 MBP. After a day or so I never really notice it as it's mostly hidden, depending on your desktop picture. I really only notice when the cursor disappears behind it, but full screen apps come in below this and the OS moves menubar items as needed.

I think that when Apple changes the design of a product it naturally encourages people to upgrade. I would imagine there are quite a few people on here with M1 Airs that are or were contemplating upgrading.

This is the config I would be looking for, and at £1750 for 8 core, 10 gpu core, 16gb ram with 512gb storage its a lot when you can get a base model 14" pro for £1735 in Currys. Thats 8 core, 14 gpu core, 16gb ram with 512gb storage. Plus you get a slightly bigger and better 120hz screen for less.

Im guessing the M2 Pro will end up being more expensive too

My only nitpicky complaint is I wish the thunderbolt ports were one on each side, instead of both on one side, so that it could be seamlessly plugged in both to the left or right of a docking station, or used if sitting flush against a left or right wall.

That said, this is the one that is making me jump ship from the 12" Macbook. It's thin, it's light, it's fanless. Check check check, I'm in.
