I like the new Air, a lot more than the rumors with ugly white borders.

I like the Air because its Light, Powerful and Fanless. I wonder if the CPU/GPU will throttle more or less than the M1 Air...

So the MBA is fan less, what I am worried about is how it will cope with certain games as my iMac fans come on when I play games like cities skylines and the sims 4🤨

sounds great, I got the M1 MBP 13 for the audio, better screen, and the active cooling. But honestly, I never use the active cooling unless I am really trying to push it. I can even run handbrake using the built-in video encoders and doesn't touch the fans. If you go CPU by using filters or not using the video toolbox, then it can run them, but transcodes are worse than built n and much slower, so why?

Almost checks every box for me, but missed a big one. How much longer must I wait for them to add cellular connectivity?

I am worried about the default display resolution. If Apple chooses to use 2x Retina scaling then we would get 1280x632 usable canvas, which is not that great. I think that Apple will use a 1.x scaling as default, which of course would suck. My 14" MBP has 2x default and the display looks amazing. Another thing to consider is the lack of ProMotion. Apart from that I like the new design but I would have gladly seen more colorful options. If I was to buy one, it would be the midnight blue or the silver.
Getting a fully loaded MBA here in Germany costs above 2500€, which is crazy, considering that for 200€ more people can get the 14" MBP, which is more powerful and has a much better display..
I love the idea of having a lightweight laptop though to compliment my other Macs, so I might be buying it at the end..

Of course it's all better, it's the latest version!

You should get the latest updates at the same price points, as the older tech that was in there got less expensive anyhow

When Apple does a move like this, they are resetting at higher base prices likely for the long term
And no one else raises the price for better performance, even Intel gives their high end chips away at less than the lower price chips. (wait, they don't) This is a performance boost over a machine that left it's competitors n the dust at the same price points. Try configuring a Dell or something with a Geekbench 5 of close to around 9000. I'm sure they sell those for $500, LOL. Fact is that these are some pretty significant performance bumps, and better cameras, better speakers, better display. Yah, maybe they should have lowered the price

i love how thin/light it is (exactly what i want), but ever since noticing the diff between pro motion on the iphone 13 pro and non pro motion, i'm worried 60hz is going to drive me nuts while scrolling through text.

Very nice, but I was hoping for a white MB. Guess I'll stick to my MBP.
I feel they may release more colours at a later date, similar to the phones. Such shortages of things in supply chains at the moment, they may just be focussing on the main colours.

I shouldn't have to come up with some Rube Goldberg contraption just to get a good camera.
You do know they upgraded the camera to the 1080p cam that is in the current 14" Pro, right? So the new camera is better for sure. Using an iPhone is just an option (when they were showing off the new Continuity stuff) for everyone with an iPhone, a device which has substantially better camera. But the 1080p one will be good. I have the 14" Pro and the cam is very nice for Zoom and the like.

They’re going to sell a boat load. The headphone jack is still on the wrong side…again. Other than that, it’s an excellent update.
Not so sure tbh, especially outside of the US. Its too expensive. They needed to keep the base sub 999. In the EU and UK, theres little point choosing one over a pro if you need more ram or increased storage. Especially mid cost of living crisis, massive inflation and incoming recession. People are spending less. I think they missed the mark with the price.

They are going to keep that sub $1k price point and just fill it with old models now, like they've done on iOS/iPadOS side of things

:(

It's effectively a big price hike to have the latest models now
(the latest models are what folks should be buying, especially with computers which tend to be kept/used for longer)

This one will eventually come down in price, but I am one of those weirdos who will most likely opt for the 13” MBP as I did with my M1 since I think the notch is stupid, I use and like the Touch Bar and I love the 13” form factor. But I’m not alone or else Apple would not have introduced it today.

EDIT: I will say that the upgrade cost to 24GB is complete BS at $400 when it should be $300, based on Apple’s pricing, but I can’t make them, so I’m stuck.

Hopefully it drops. I was waiting to see a 15inch personally, so thats another reason for me to purchase. If it was a bit cheaper I would have considered it as I like the design and miss macos, but for now I will stick with the 15 inch windows laptop I swapped to a while back.

Old airs have been 10% or more off for a few weeks here now. AU. My daughter has had one for a year, impressed me enough to get a 14" pro lol

It will suffer in silence 😡😉

The MacBook Air is a "disposable consumer luxury good"?

Nearly everything produced today is a “disposable” good. Very few things produced today are designed to last beyond a few years without being outdated or in need of replacement.

And if you don’t think Apple makes “consumer luxury goods” well, then we are just going to have to completely disagree. And that’s cool.
