READ How to get BestBuy discount for new RETINA MBP

My Best Buy experience...

I reserved the rMBP last Thursday and received an email confirming my order. So, this morning I receive an email indicating that my order is ready for pickup. I'm excited, so I drive over and show the pickup desk my email on my phone. The woman says,"we don't have any in." I respond,"sooooooo, what's this email about?" She looks at my phone again and proceeds to ask her fellow employees why the email was sent to me. At this point, 25 minutes has passed and I'm becoming increasingly annoyed. After 3 "checks" in the back, it has been determined that my model was scanned and sold to someone else this morning who didn't reserve it. After an hour and a half of standing, a manager comes out and apologizes acknowledging that they sold my reserved model. Well, long story short, I'm 100% guaranteed a rMBP on Tuesday...so they say...lol.

Update: I called today and they said it'll arrive on Wednesday. Sigh.

interesting
i think the 250 off basically is over

Yup... she was actually thanking me for showing her the deal because she wanted to use it for a Macbook she just purchased too. She tried all the SKU #'s from the receipts right in front of me and even had me double check them... and it just doesn't come up in the BestBuy system anymore.

How do people get the managers to match the Apple education price?
I just got one from a local Bestbuy, and they refused to honor any kind of discount. They said they absolutely cannot match the price of the "education store". So I paid for the full price and drove to another Bestbuy about 10 miles away.
I spoke to the customer service in this Bestbuy and I showed them the apple education store on my phone. They said they couldn't match it because the Apple store site said shipping in 3-4 weeks and they cannot match the price of an item that is not in stock. I was told that I would have to go back to the BB I bought it from and see if the manager approves.
What other things can I try? Can I still return it to BB if I have already opened it?

Mine matched with no questions asked, I would just keep trying. If you have a .edu e-mail address register @ http://www.bestbuy.com/studentdeals

Thats for $100 off -- then I just said that Apple has it for $200 off and she took another $100 off.

Which store did you get the match?

You have 30 days to return open item with no restocking fee.

managers

Managers are usually confused, normal policy for retail outlets allows no discounting of Apple products what so ever. People get fired for discounting sometimes so thats why they don't match. Unless you somehow ended up dealing with a manager who's just a dick.

Finally had luck price matching at best buy in West Paterson NJ. The apple rep just asked to see my student Id and took the $200 right off.

This is the 4th best buy I tried and finally got it. Paramus, GSP, and secaucus would not price match.

purchased one finally...

I just bought the base retina from Best Buy yesterday..

I'm not sure if I should keep it; however, the display is incredible. This is my first mac by the way. I plan to run Windows for .NET development as well as getting my feet wet to learn coding for IOS..
The manager was able pricematch apple education + $100 bb gc.. what do you think of this deal?
I was pondering on either getting the 17" mbp or this one.

$2000 + tax + fees = $2161
------------------------

$2161 - $100 bb gc = $2061

Also, silver members get 3X points back, 1 time only, expires 7/1 =
$120 in certificates

$2061 - $120 = $1941

Anyone know if Best Buy still has the $150 SKU active in the system? I was only able to get $200 off but no gift card...

I was thinking about trying other locations and say they forgot to give me the gift card.

A local Best Buy has one (or more) in stock. I recently ordered one online from Apple with the education discount and the $100 gift card. I received the gift card yesterday.

So I am going to go in and try to get the $200 education discount that I paid online as well as the $100 gift card. I'm hoping that since I have an actual receipt that they'll have less of a problem matching the price. The only concern is that they could say "well it doesn't ship until July 18th or so". Not sure that's a valid point though since I've already "paid" for the product (technically they don't charge your card until it ships).

Anyone tried a similar strategy?

My BBY Experience

I went to Best Buy Store at the Mall of America,MN last Monday. I think i had a huge discount!

me: I am looking for a macbook pro
agent: what kind
me: the non retina 13 inch
agent: good choice, we have the 13 inch and the 15 inch. you can try it for yourself and let me know if you have questions.
me: i think i am good to go and would want to purchase one. Do you offer any discounts
agent: what discount do you like?
me: what discount do you have?
agent: i have a couple of discounts, just tell me what you like (she was telling this smiling)

at this point i was thinking if i could get a discount:)

me: i've heard about this student promo for a $100 Gift card if you buy an MBP
agent: we can certainly do that.

but when i was in the cashier, i think she told the cashier to ring in a $200 off the purchase price! (take note, not a $100 BBY gift card, not even a $200 GC, but to take off $200 immediately).:D

And since i am a silver member of reward zone, i also got a $20 discount on their MAC office 2011, originally at 120, it came down to just $100.

When they were ringing in my purchase, i think they were having some problems on inputting the $200 discount. So based from the receipt, what they did was they only discounted $100 on the MBP, and just placed another $100 discount on the MAC office 2011.

All in all, $200 discount for an MBP, I think it is a pretty good deal!

Just picked up 2 Retina's today at BB. I got the $400 off ($200 each), plus a $300 gift card ($150 each). Didn't look up the SKU for the gift card. Simply showed him the invoice for MY retina macbook coming from Apple this week.

All said and done:
$2340 original price w/tax
-$200 discount
-$150 gift card

Total each: $1990

Is best buy still giving out the $150 gift card? When I bought mine Monday, I only got the student discount.

If I go to a different best buy with my receipt, will they give me the gift card?

Probably not, it looks like they have officially taken it off their system. Worth a try, a manager can always override the transaction if he wishes and give it to you, but its unlikely.

Have a buddy that works at BB. He tried plugging in the sku late last week and nothing came up. It's invalid now.

My best buy experience today for a 2012 macbook air.

I went to the best buy in fairfax virginia, on leesburg pike. I asked the guy there if i could buy the macbook air (base 13) for the same price apple charges. He said yeah, we do something better. We give you a hundred dollar gift card. I then asked him if he could match apples educational pricing of 1149 for the machine and then give me the 100 best buy card as a replacement for the itunes card apple gives. He flat out said no. He said one or the other. He also claimed that it was impossible to receive the laptop for 1149+ 100 gift card. Even at apple. I asked what he would do if i went to apple, bought the computer and brought it back to get it price matched (i had a 1000 dollar best buy gift card). He said it was impossible and apple wouldn't do it. He said he wouldn't even entertain the thought because that wouldn't happen. He tried to make it seem as if best buy had the best deal. I said goodbye and left.

I then went to rockville best buy. The guy tried to do the same thing. 1199 and 100 BB gift card. I said no. I calmly explained that apple charges 1149 AND gives a 100 dollar gift card. Why should I pay 50 more dollars at best buy when i could get it for cheaper at apple. The guy at rockville also seemed to fail to realize that apple is offering a better deal. After 2 or 3 minutes of arguing, i said i would take my business to apple instead given that BB offers no advantage. Before i walked away he said, whatever and he just applied a $150 discount on the bill instead of giving me the $100 bb card. im satisfied. still loathe best buy though.

May I ask which Best Buy store did you get the deal from? And when did you buy it ?
Can you provide me the SKU of the Gift card?

this is in Sac/CA. There's no sku for the gift card. The manager had to issue one. so this deal is YMMV now.

The apple store only gives a $100 edu discount towards a 13" MBP. Will Best Buy give a full $200 off? Has anyone tried?

Noooo, they will only price match the discount that the Apple store gives. Apple offers $100 of 13" and $200 of 15", so Best Buy will offer the same discount by price matching.
