I have no idea why you were expecting to have it all this week. That sounds like an expectation issue to me.

Um... Let me count the ways...

Is it perhaps because Apple promised "fast, free delivery?" and instead opted for international economy (the slowest) to save $$?

Or is it maybe because many of us who got up early or stayed up late to be at the head of the line have wound up at the back of the line?

Or was it that Apple's history in quoting ship-times has always been conservative versus the reality, and this time it's the other way around.

Or maybe it's just because up until now Apple has never screwed the pooch so badly with a product rollout...

All in all, I'd say an expectation of better service than what most of us are getting is not unreasonable.

But that's just my opinion.

(Black 32GB ATT, ordered 3/11, 1:06 am for wife's 3/17 b-day, now sitting on a pallet somewhere in Hong Kong for the past two days.)

Oh man, so i guess i have to wait 24 hours for it to leave Japan
2011-03-19 20:51:00 Arrived at FedEx Ramp SENNAN-SHI,

Not necessarily...there is a 777 headed for Memphis at 0240 local. See
http://flight.kansai-airport.or.jp/info/kixfltweb/flte_result.asp#search2
then select Classification as "Cargo/Departure"
then select Destination/Origin as "The Americas"
then select Airline as "Fedex" (its down on the list, not in any apparent order)

Keep checking the above site, see when that flight leaves, and then check your package status in the Yahoo small business tracker about 15-20 min later...if the times match, you have found your flight!

I didn't respond to that person ... why shouldn't we have expectations? I ordered at 12:47am, why wouldn't I expect mine to be here within the same week everyone else received theirs.

Just got a postcard from my ipad: "Still chillin at Lantau!! 24 hours of luxurious relaxation before crossing the pacific. Maybe I'll hang out in another Asian fedex hub for a few more days before coming to the states. Enjoy the souvenir smart cover you should have received by now!"

Apple screwed up

We all get it now. They did a horrible job with this launch... A launch that took place over a week ago. I think it's time to suck it up and move on. We're getting ipads... ipads that are not even available to the world masses yet. Be thankful you're getting one now before they launch it to other countries. Can you imagine that wait?

Does any one know what batch of orders are going out now. I placed my order mid morning due to my bad Internet connection. 8:15 am PDT. I don't mind waiting I would just like to know how far down the que I am in apple shipping .

My 64GB 3g AT&T wifi went from LANTAU ISLAND HK directly to Memphis, TN last night at midnight and when I called fed ex Thursday they told me that it was on a pallet with like 270 other iPads. My tracking says by 10:30 am Tuesday the 22nd but me email notification says Monday the 21st b4 10:30 am. I'm in San Diego. BTW Fed Ex does deliver on Saturdays. Would love to see it today but am happy still if I see it Monday and NOT Tuesday! Getting excited finally! :D I ordered mine on the 11th at 1:45 am.

Glad to see that we are still all together....

Yah, good call. I just needed to unload a little of this pent-up angst.
Didn't even mention the fact that those of us who called and tried to PAY for priority shipment were refused. Or how about that guy who was told he'd GET priority shipping but then was not?

All in all it seems like we've been dealing with one of those Amazon resellers with a 50% approval rating, instead of the Apple we expected.

Thank you, that's a very useful link. :):):)

I was scanned into the Memphis sort facility just after midnight last night. Has anyone that went into Memphis seen any movement on their shipment yet?

The fedex tracker says the same thing for mine, but yahoo fedex tracker shows it in Japan. Did you try on both?

My rationalization

I ordered early also and have been frustrated also, but I've concluded the AT&T ones are shipping with delay in all storage options - and the whites appear to be shipping before the black ones. I can only conclude that Apple expected more Verizon orders, fewer GSM, more white - think of all the iPhone threads over the last 2 years - "waiting for a white one," waiting for Verizon," AT&T data congestion and so Apple concluded White Verizon it is and like the first iPad more WIFI except that's not how the orders came in - and without preorders, they worked only with their expectations. Or perhaps the result would have been the same for supply reasons??? Whatever the "real reason," my rationalization has helped me adopt a patient more Zen attitude (somewhat) although I wish my IPad were leaving Asia instead of hanging out in the Lantau Island freight area shut up in a container. And stupidly, I keep checking the shipping on FedEx and Yahoo even though I know nothing will happen until tomorrow at the earliest.

Newest Update "Left FedEx Ramp SENNAN-SHI"! It must be on a plane now!

I saw that update when I woke up at 8am

Glad to see we're all still together... Four more hours to Alaska. I hope my ipad doesn't stay there too long... It's cold up there!

I doubt we are headed to Alaska.. I haven't seen an iPad take this route and Alaska be next. Shanghai possibly ..

Was that 145am PST. I ordered mine at 530am CST. 64GB 3G ATT Black...and I am NOT YET SHIPPED!

I am one of the rational commenters, so I recognize they technically still have 2 full 'business' days to ship before they actually lied to me.

Thoughts from Lantau

I got an odd letter in the mail today it was postmarked from Lantau:

Dear Marc,

I hope this letter finds you well. I want you to known I found your friends Ipad's and for the last 3 days we have been living it up in Lantau. We have been to HK Disney, ate all the apps we could, and got all charged up at a rockin outlet station. Even the WIFI Ipads have 3G HERE!

We are having so much fun we dont know if we want to come home and go to work. This is the first time we have been able to live free and do the things we want to do. We have spoken our apple union reps and between you and me they have been telling you "White Lies" to prolong our vacation.

The truth is we will come to the states when we are done partying and you are just going to have to deal with it.

Sincerely,

32g 3g Ipad ATT number 7797494794749

Come to Papa

Alas, I will no longer be posting on this thread. My apologies for not getting back sooner. I've posted three times earlier, and I have enjoyed the past couple days with my Verizon, 64G, White, 3g,Wifi and all those other descriptors iPad2. As I mentiioned earlier, I ordered my iPad2 at 4:30am according to Apple. I received it a day earlier than Apple promised, but I was out for 1 stupid hour and the FedEx kept my iPad OVERNIGHT. The next day I waited outside until 2pm when I saw the FedEx truck pull into the neighborhood. My heart sank when the driver turned right instead of left at the intersection but I knew it was just a few more minutes. Five minutes later she pulled up, and the driver took forever to pop out of that darn truck. But then she sprang forth and said to me, "Did you get an iPad?" Silly girl, tell me where to sign. Since then, I've ignored you people, and my apologies for that. I know you will get your iPad soon, and I'm happy that the demand is so high. I was never a "trekkie" though I enjoyed all Star Wars films. I'll always be a Mac follower though. My Mac128k was good until my duo230, then the IIci, and so on. Take care everyone and try to be understanding, and patient. This is a fine instrument, and worth waiting for. Good health to Steve and and all of you.
Bill
