I just got off the phone with FEDEX, international department. They said that the shipment for the ipads in Lantau Island, that have been there for the last 4 days - have been delayed. They refused to give any timeline as to how long they will be delayed. I was provided this number 1.800.455.4588 to call them tomorrow morning and see if they have any information. The rep on the phone said that they have no information as to how, when or why it was delayed and even less as to when to expect them.

They probably got hijacked. Can you imagine how much a pallet of 700 ATT Ipads would be worth?

My 1:02 am order arrived well on Kauai. It loved the preview of Island Life on Lantau. Syncing now. So far is SMOOTH!

Good luck to the rest of you.

Any later order times moved yet?

I ordered my 64GB ATT BLACK on 3/11/11 @ 6:12am PST (9:12am EST). My status still reads NOT YET SHIPPED. Anyone else who ordered around this time in the same boat as me? And on the flip side, anyone else who ordered around this time see any movement on theirs yet?

Mine finally came. Beautiful. I appear to have been one of the lucky few with no backlight bleeding, body damage, yellow spots, or anything. Works perfectly, and I am thrilled with this pick-up.

Don't lose hope everyone - this is totally worth the wait!

Arrival...

My iPad2 has arrived, is set up and currently adhering to its new screen protector...

I ordered on the 11th at 4:00am EST (1am Pacific) (iPad WiFi 64gb Black, Black Leather Cover and an extra iPad charger) for shipping to NYC. The charger was first to ship (13th), followed by the cover (14th) and finally the iPad (17th).

On the day my iPad shipped I received my charger...and after my cover spent some time on lovely Lantau Island it was picked up by my iPad on the 18th for the flight to Anchorage. There, the cover decided to take a weekend trip to Memphis (19th) while my iPad couldn't wait and hopped on a direct flight to Newark, NJ where it was joined by the cover earlier this morning (21st) and they got on the truck together...:apple:

All and all not bad considering the delivery forecasts were 18th for the charger/cover and 18-26 for the iPad with expected delivery of 22nd. Apple/Fedex beat the forecasted date by 1 day, which gets even better considering what is going on right now in that area of the world.

To everyone else out there still waiting, be patient...it will get there in due time...

Just called and talked with Fedex again. My previous post is probably not right. There is, in fact, more than one pallet just sitting in HK. My particular pallet has just under 1000 iPad 2s. Another has under 800, another between 300 and 400. She could not say whether length of time determined shipping priority or room on planes. Either way, those of us who ordered early and are in this stuck in HK mode might be in for a very long wait.

At what time was your order placed JD?

Same thing here....Ordered 3/11 @ 7:20am PST. Status: NOT YET SHIPPED

Early Arrival

It arrived today, two days earlier than the delivery date. I saw that it was in NJ yesterday, then lower Manhattan this morning, so I was wondering why it would take 2 days to make it to me in midtown. After going to the gym, I had a notification from the valet that there was a package, and sure enough, it's the iPad 2...2 days early :)

Still put off by the wait because now no one is responding to my Craigslist ad, which means I'll likely have to accept the pre-offer from a buy-back company.

Deets

Ordered March 11th 4am ET, Confirmed around 4:47am by Apple
White 64GB WiFi+3G
Anticipated Delivery Date 4/23/11
Actual Delivery 4/21/11

So, my 64 gb ATT black ipad is now in its 5th day on Lantau Island. It still shows delivery on 3/23 in southwest Florida. Who thinks I'll see my ipad within 48 hours? (not me)

Update from Fed EX for all Lantau Island Hostages

I called Fed Ex again this afternoon on behalf of all four day Lantau Island hostages.

I first spoke with Cassandra at Fed Ex international. She tried every excuse under the sun why this one pallet still remained in Hong Kong. She tried the Japan disaster, no weekend working in China, you name it, she gave the excuse. Finally, after pressing the issue, I nicely asked her if I could speak to a supervisor. She said they would say the same thing, and I told her that was fine, but I would like to talk to a supervisor. After a few minutes, I got hold of Velma Williams. Velma was more helpful than Cassandra. She also tried the whole issue of weekends not counting, things when out in order they are received and the time difference. I told her that many of us that are included in the pallet are sharing shipping information and order times. I explained to her that many of us were some of the earliest orders from Apple. She finally admitted that our pallet was big she said it was actually shrink wrapped into a large 760 piece pallet. They had tried to put this pallet on another plane and it was too big and it was removed. At this point, there is a backlog of more orders stacking up behind ours that are smaller and they make their way on to a plane, but ours is too big and they have not been able to get it out of the country. She also admitted because of the backlog, we are liable to sit for awhile. They try to prioritize, but it doesn't always work out.

Velma Williams has now put a tracer on my package. That means yours too, I am sure. She said she would call me as soon as she saw any movement in this pallet, but it won't be today. At the earliest, it will be tomorrow morning.

So.....there you have it. No news.

Thanks, man.... reason# 1,657,924 as to why this launch has been a cluster f from the get go.... I wish someone could explain to me how in 2011 a company like FedEx (and Apple for that matter), can have something like this happen in the first place and worse, be stumped as to how to correct it.... worst product launch ever, followed by worst logistics of a product launch ever...

Thank you, mcirish. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. if they start getting annoyed about this "gigantic" shipment, they may be more likely to act on it sooner rather than later.

You know what, screw this! I would accept this excuse given to mcirish if it was the 2nd or even the 3rd day, but it's going on day 5 for f's sake!! And they can't figure out how to resolve a large pallet. Is the first time they have ever had a pallet that was too big... damn the incompetence!

I'm not someone who tweets or quite understands tweeter but don't companies hate negative public comments? Maybe it's time to put some pressure on them via social media? At this point anything is worth trying.

My boyfriend (commercial pilot, A330) said that the Fedex excuse is a load of crap. Palettes normally weigh 4,000 lbs and 750 iPads don't. I'm just saying....

I second that thanks. I will call Apple customer service with this info and see if there is a supervisor who can look into this from their end. If we all do that perhaps someone will actually make a common sense move like breaking up the shipment into two?? Takes a box cutter and $5 of shrink wrap? Where is the LI home depot?????

At what time was your order placed JD?

1:27am PST.

What a day. After I wrote my last post I called Apple Customer Support on behalf of all of us, not to get anything free, but to let them know of the situation and hopefully talk to anyone who would be within earshot of a person who could tell Fedex to get these iPads to the States. Here's how it went.

Called ACS and explained our situation, that there are 2000 orders of high end iPads all placed before 2am PST sitting in a shipping house in HK with no exit date set. The rep was nice, refunded my Smart Cover (I took it but told him I'd rather see movement on our orders) refunded and got the number to Corporate. Called Corporate. Talked to the lowest shipping guy, same info, got transferred to his supervisor who transferred me to his supervisor who then transferred me to his supervisor. This guy put me on hold for ten or 15 minutes looking for someone to talk to. It sounded like this was the first time he'd heard of this problem.

In the end there wasn't much he could do about Fedex's policies and how they ship stuff. I reiterated to him that I wasn't looking for a refund, wasn't mad, wouldn't stop using Apple, but that I and everyone else in the same boat as me would like this to continue going up the ladder until someone who has the authority to talk to Fedex talks to Fedex.

Ultimately we're kind of stuck where we are now. But I think this guy was sincere and will send it as far as he can. At least Corporate knows about us. Short of sending Steve over there with some ninja stars, I don't know what else we can do except pray.

I have to agree. It seems after this long they could repackage the pallet if they wanted to. Hard to believe they have never seen a large pallet from apple before. With all the stuff they move thru Honk Kong this is incompetence!

apple sucks

My ipad was scheduled for delivery today by 10:30..of course my luck, fed ex lost the package. Apple so kindly reissued me one but now it won't be delivered until the end of April..what kind of customer service is that..ordered it at 1:07 PST and fed ex lost the package and u put me at the end of the line saying there is nothing u can do. Absolutely unacceptable.
