Just reread the thread I posted and noted

I just saw this post in the Apple Discussions on iPad2 shipping:

"Some new information of interest: CCTV9 is reporting Lantau Island/Hong Kong is now among the the largest designated airports for emergency aid traveling between China and Japan. In addition to evacuation flights for passengers between northern Japan and Hong Kong, tons of dried milk powder, food, and other essential aid is moving from mainland China to Hong Kong and then to Japan. The airport is running at beyond full capacity, and many Hong Kong aviation firms are donating services to assist tsunami victims as food shortages persist in northern Japan."

If that's the problem, you'd think FedEx would make an announcement.

I note that CCTV9 speaks of Hong Kong Aviation firms. It doesn't mention international firms like FedEx diverting their flights from Lantau Island to Japan.

Just an update: Ordered 0325 PDT. IPAD WI-FI 3G 64GB BLK - VERIZON PRS-USA engraved.

Mar 21, 2011 11:52 PM At local FedEx facility LANTAU ISLAND HK
Mar 21, 2011 11:56 AM In transit LANTAU ISLAND HK
Mar 21, 2011 12:12 AM Picked up SHENZHEN CN Package received after FedEx cutoff
Mar 20, 2011 6:40 AM Shipment information sent to FedEx

Now stating est delivery Mar 25 - was "Mar 24" yesterday :(

Looks like mine is on the same shipment. Mine is going to Massachusetts.

There's no backup. There's just a large supply of iPads due to arrive on the 23rd and 24th. We've established that. The proof is in the fact that there are thousands of iPads arriving and leaving Lantau Island everyday, while others have been there for four days. The common theme is estimated ship date.

There's no massive conspiracy. Nobody "forgot" the pallets are there. They aren't "too big."

They're just shipping out other pallets because they can and still hit the dates.

It's the common sense answer that nobody seems willing to consider.

So the supervisor I talked to at Fed Ex is just talking out her a@@? She said she can see what has been happening with that one pallet and it was actually sent to be loaded on a plane bound for Alaska and it was refused due to its size. Since then she said it has been by-passed and she isn't sure why. My iPad was supposed to be delivered on the 23rd. Velma Williams from Fed Ex already said that even if it left tonight headed to Anckorage, it won't make it in time for my 23rd delivery. She put a tracer on it and said she would call me when it got to the U.S.

Please, don't guess. I have been talking to Fed Ex for two days and I am not making up stories to add drama. All I want is the stupid iPad before I leave on vacation. When I ordered, it was 3-5 shipping days. Mine was shipped too late to make the 5 day and it sat over the weekend and now day two after the weekend and Miss Williams has made it clear it will be late even though this group of people ordered before 1 am on the 11th.

Yes, I'm sure the woman answering phones at FedEx customer support is brilliant and correct. She's clearly a genius because, remember, she answer phones at FedEx customer support.

You're right. Your theory that -- FedEx just forgot about all these iPads in a corner of a warehouse somewhere? I guess? -- is much more plausible.

Late iPad

I am happy my iPad didn't go out with the first shipment although I ordered at 12:45am. I received mine today and it's in perfect condition. Not a sign of light bleeding or yet to dry glue. I was upset that it traveled all through Japan but I cannot complain because I feel sorry for those of you who received the first ones produced. :apple:

VERIFIED: "business" customers get priority (in-store)

I posted this earlier and it was met with understandable skepticism:

Please note that this is unverified, but a trustworthy friend told me this "solution" is underway for him:

Basically, my friend called an Apple Store to discuss iPad 2 availability, and somehow got on the phone with their head of business sales who told him that the Apple Stores are giving preference to their business customers (i.e., new iPad 2 stock goes to business orders first). He says that he simply setup a business profile for his company and then ordered several iPads (for him and a few of his colleagues). Coincidentally, his company may actually become an ongoing business customer, purchasing iPhones, iPads, and possibly Macs for or on-behalf-of it's employees, so I'm sure that helps his chances of getting iPad stock soon.

If this pans out, he'll be able to cancel his shipping-in-4-5-weeks online order and instead have an iPad in just a few days. I'll keep the thread posted on the success ;-)

Turns out this totally worked. Apparently it took a week, but the Apple Store sales person obtained not one but eight iPads for my friend (and his colleagues). No commitment to buy more, and no requirement for the company to purchase it (he was upfront in saying that he and his colleagues were getting these primarily for personal use, too). Of course, apparently his company actually is going to make use of the program, but they didn't have to sign/promise anything.

Point is, there are "alternate solutions", apparently ;-)

For many of us on west coast with estimated delivery on 03/23, I think iPad2 will leave LANTAU ISLAND tomorrow night their time which is around 7 AM PDT on 03/22. This is just a theory based on smart cover's journey. Then it will land in AK sometime afternoon and then travel to Oakland and then from Oakland to final destination on Tue night.

Me thinks you're right. I'm in Sac, and my joint's been sitting on Lantau for 4 days. :/

Four days in lantau!

Tomorrow morning my iPad will be finishing it's forth day in Lantau.

Deliver is still indicated as Wednesday the 23rd. I guess that is theoretically possible if it leaves in the morning on a flight to Memphis or someplace else in the lower 48 and arrives there sometime Tuesday night. Otherwise it won't come on Wednesday and I'll be leaving early Thursday on a 2 week trip without it.

This thread is weird. I'd laugh at all you guys obsessing about days at a Fed Ex warehouse in Hong Kong and looking up cargo plane schedules and status if I wasn't one of you!

I really wanted to have this iPad for my trip - especially since my laptop stopped working a month ago. The iPad will fill all my communication needs on the trip - in fact my iPhone does OK but it is a pain working with the tiny screen for some things.

I guess I still have one more shot although it seems like a longshot to me.

For the record - White 64GB ATT ordered 1:04AMPST on the 11th.

Me thinks you're right. I'm in Sac, and my joint's been sitting on Lantau for 4 days. :/

My cover did travel from AK to FL in 24 hours, so considering travel time, time difference, flights scheduled, etc, if it's not out of HK by noon East coast time, it won't be here for the scheduled delivery date, the 23rd.

So we'll find out in a little over 12 hours what our future holds.

FDX60 is feet dry..... slightly under 3 hrs to MEM. Left KIX 8.5 hrs ago. Hopefully see an update when it lands at MEM at about 0050ET

Not apples fault, but mine managed to make it all the way from china to Boston yesterday, then got misrouted by fedex back to minnessota. 30 miles from my house and then they send it away again... 2 more days to turn it around and get it back this way again.... Fedex is "very sorry"

Paddy's finally home!!! Since I wasn't home when Fedex came to my house, I picked the package up at the Fedex station. There was a guy picking up a package looking just like mine. Anybody here who picked up an iPad package in Carlsbad, CA at 6:30pm? :D
Hope everything's okay with it, I didn't unpack yet.
Well, anyway, this forum is awesome, I had a great time tracking my package and learned a lot, too. Thanks for the links to Yahoo tracking and
FlightAware.

I think all the Lantau Island folks -- myself included -- are needlessly worrying.

FedEx hasn't loaded the pallets because, based on our estimated ship date, they don't think they need to.

Everyone stuck on Lantau seems to have a delivery of the 23rd or 24th. FedEx is going to keep those dates, they're just trying to ship out packages that will be a closer shave first.

It isn't a perfect science, so they have to guestimate. Many get delivered early, very rarely do they get delivered late.

At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

I couldn't agree with you more. If FedEx just provided tracking for ipads from the day it shipped and just the day it was delivered...it's safe to say this thread would be 10x shorter. Because they provide all the details in between point a to b - we have a lot of pretty (extremely) eager soon to be ipad2 owners.

I still have confidence mine will arrive when fedex says it will.

wherewuz, why don't you go play on another forum. Nobody really cares about your comments or guesses about what is going on.

Your rudeness about other people's work just shows what a child you are, go play elsewhere.

I know what you mean.... I've got an offer from Gazelle for $565 for my original ipad... trying to decide to ship it off to them when my "2" shows up or let my kids fight with each other over my old one.

Of course, if i let them have the "old" one, they'll just complain that it doesn't have cameras and "it's too heavy"....

Then I'll give them my favorite Judge Smails line from Caddyshack.... "You'll get NOTHING! And like it!"

I'm not guessing. I'm saying FedEx will deliver the packages on or close to when they say they will. Not sure how I've been rude.

You're guessing that something fantastical has happened to these iPads, without much evidence besides a phone conversation.

Finally in the Good Ol' USA

MY iPad 2 FINALLY LANDED ON FDX 48 FROM HONG KONG TO MEMPHIS!!!!!!! Anyone know when the next flight to syracuse from memphis is for Fedex?:):D
