I have been checking my order status on apple's website each day hoping my Apr 1 ship date may get moved up by chance. Last checked about an hour ago and I was still "Not Yet Shipped" and my credit card had not been charged. I decided to troll the internet to see if people were keeping track of order status updates to see when I might expect mine, and found my way to this forum. Randomly checked my American Express account after and saw that the charge finally got posted about 10 minutes ago (swear I checked about an hour ago and nothing was there or pending). About 2 minutes ago Apple switched my order status to "Prepared for Shipment".
I ordered my 64G Black iPad2 + AT&T 3G at 3:54PM PDT on launch day. So late launch day online purchasers, have faith. Looks like April 1 ship date / Apr 8 Delivery was a conservative estimate! Hope to find a tracking number sometime tomorrow and hopefully not too long after that I will have something to put my smart cover on...

Your good to go. What was your time stamp on the "Left the FedEx Sort Facility" (the regular fedex site should say Departed FedEx Location). That will determine if you made the 3:15 flight or 4:05 flight.
My cover landed between midnight and 1:00 am and made the 3:30 am flight from Memphis to DC, out for delivery that afternoon. Get ready to sync!
Hmm... to Oakland by 9:50p-ish, then a few hours for sorting... some out to Bay Area people, some on a flight down to LA/OC... probably by early morning... it'll be close

I'm in the same status with delivery still showing for tomorrow but this normally means it won't leave till the next day.
Same thing happened last week to my smart cover.

Got it a day early!
Noticed an exception on Fedex tracking - said the package arrived at the distribution center after the courier left. I couldn't find the local center phone # so I called the 800 number and asked the lady if I could swing by to pick up the package. She said she would send a message to my local center and ask them to call me. I never got a call and checked my status to find out that my driver went back to the center to pick up my package.

I don't get it though...if FedEx wasn't going to make the delivery on time shouldn't they have updated it by now?
There are two different flights from Anchorage, the FDX 28 to Memphis and the FDX 92 to Newark NJ. Don't know in which one is my iPad, I'm in Florida. Perhaps in the 28.

Fedex was built on overnight magic. No one, or hardly anyone, did overnight delivery before Fedex mainstreamed the practice in the 80's. Years ago I recall hearting that their only central hub was Memphis. Everything went to and then from Memphis from all over the country for overnight delivery. Here in Chicago we could drop stuff off at Fed-ex at the airport as late as 11:00 or 11-something at night and it would be delivered early the next morning anyplace in the country.
Let's hope they're doing that on the final leg of my iPad's journey - so I'll be able to take it on my trip leaving early Thursday.

I am in Florida as well. Mine was updated at 3:57 Alaska time which coincides with the Newark flight...it says it left at 3:57
The problem is that fedex says it is in transit and yahoo fedex says it is being held in Alaska. If that is the case, I don't see any other flights out of Alaska within the US tonight.

Don't give up on tomorrow delivery. Fed Ex is pulling some major rabbits out of their hat right now. My ipad (after sitting in China for 4.5 days) left Anchorage about an hour ago and is on its way to Oakland airport. I live near Sacramento. This could happen for me tomorrow like planned. If it doesn't, I am ok with it. I will have it for my vacation on Saturday and that is good enough for me.
