Finally in L.A.

My black 64GB WiFi+3G(ATT) has finally made it to L.A.! After five days on Lantau, it bounced through Taiwan, Anchorage and Oakland last night. It's now at the L.A. facility, with an estimated delivery time of "by 4:30pm." Not on a truck yet, but there's still hope.

Shipment Notification!

After not so much deliberation, I ordered my white 64GB Wifi+3G iPad 2 on 3/11 around mid-afternoon while at work (I tend to make impulsive decisions like this all the time).

My excitement quickly wore off when after I placed my order, I was notified that it would ship in about 2-3 wks, with a stated ship date of April 1 and delivery of April 6.

To my delight, I received an email this morning (3/23) that mine has shipped...yipppeeee!

It should arrive by March 30th but with FedEx you never know :-\

From a customer standpoint, I would disagree. Filling orders way out of sequence with no rhyme or reason, not allowing pre-orderes, not waiting a week or two to have enough stock to fill demand. These have nothing to do with fedex. And in my opinion is a botched launch.

And let's not even go into how Apple's web site states and I quote"FAST SHIPPING"!

Order Status Changed!

My order status has been NOT YET SHIPPED since I ordered @ 6:12am Pacific (9:12am Eastern) on 3/11/11. Overnight last night it changed to PREPARED FOR SHIPMENT...YES!!! There's light at the end of the tunnel. That is, after it vacations for a while on "the island."

I'm actually ok with Apple's handling of things. I wish they had shipped out the iPads more quickly, but they at least did what they said they would do. When I ordered, they told me shipping in 3-5 days. It shipped out in 4. I can't complain about that, even if I wanted it faster.

FedEx is another matter. Between the nearly 5 day stay on Lantau Island, incorrect information on their tracking webpage, a missed delivery date, and now no information on when my iPad will be delivered, I think that there is a lot of room to complain about FedEx. After this, I simply won't order with a company that ships FedEx.

After this, I simply won't order with a company that ships FedEx.

I agree. I have always avoided fed ex, I have never had a good experience with them. LOVE UPS!!!! My UPS man is wonderful!!!

Mine came on Monday 3/21 without about 80% charge. I assume the rest of you got yours as well.

My iPad 2 looks like it had a bit too much fun in China -- from the photos and videos the iPad 2 recorded of its Chinese Vacation, it looked like it was partying hard with the rest of your iPad 2's in Hong Kong and Taiwan. I don't know which of you had the white one with pink smart cover, but it looked like she preferred having her cover off more than on.

It's at the loading dock of my building - I hope making it's way up to me. For all of you worrying that it will never get to you in time for the delivery date - once it gets on a flight (say to Anchorage like mine did) things go incredibly fast. In the US, FedEx is great. I think they must have too few cargo jets in China to meet the demand (especially low priority demand like international economy). Space Available Basis does not insure that there is any space available.

I also think it's helpful (perhaps because mine appears to be close to me) to think of those of us who ordered early on the 11th and those who ordered later in the day - as preorders. With preorders, there's always 10 days between the preorder date and when it's available in the store, on-line etc. Don't ask me why they skipped the preorder period with 18 different models of the iPad2. But I have to go unwrap my black beauty.

I placed an iPad 2 order online at about 6:15am PST on first day. Previously my order indicated that it would be shipping April 1st, delivery by April 8th. Now:

They simply ran out of room on a plane, or someone didn't have time to load a pallet by the deadline, or something else, whatever it was, it was their fault, and not customs.

You are exactly correct the only possible explanation is they didn't clear customs in tome but they were released for shipment.

Mine shows it cleared customs at 2:15 which might have been too late to get on the plane but it was't stuck in customs.

Mine was scheduled to deliver 3/23 here in Tucson! After 5 days in Lantau, it finally got to Anchorage the 22nd.

Then they shipped it to Indianapolis instead of Memphis or Oakland
Now it's being held in Indianapolis. Hell, they don't know what to do with it!

After we got that straightened out, they say "Well I guess it was routed incorrectly". Ya think! "I guess you won't get it until tomorrow probably"

If you're on the flight to Anchorage that left Narita at 19:40ish then that flight is just a few minutes from landing. Unfortunately it looks like it's just my Smart Cover on there, but I think a few of you have iPads on there.

Despite the automated system saying it "will be delivered today", I asked to speak to a representative who said: 'Sorry, the package is still in customs. It will not deliver today.'

Me: 'Do you have a new estimated delivery date.'

Representative: 'No.'

Great... the waiting game continues.

Call Fedex and got the same response, Mine was scheduled for 3/23 by 10:30AM. Now the tracking number on Fedex site only shows a ship date, no estimated delivery date.

There is no way I am doing the signature release form. I have had UPS leave TVs and laptops on my doorstep and they have been fine...I live in a pretty decent neighborhood. But I am too paranoid. A few months ago, my boyfriend had his car broken into and a bunch of stuff stolen so all it takes is the wrong person to drive by and see opportunity.

I just hope that they will let me pick it up later at night. I have work and then class and can't really miss either. I also don't get why they are still saying today is the delivery date. Would it be that hard to update the status to say it has been delayed?

Hate to tell you this... They "lost" your package. That is total BS about taking that long for customs. My iPad was on the KIX-MEM flight that arrived at 00:04 Monday morning. It cleared customs at 00:30. Unfortunately, it missed the flight to my hometown at 03:55, but is now out for delivery today.
