This is encouraging for me. Seeing how FedEx was able to get your iPad from Newark to the home delivery truck all in the same morning gives me hope that they can do the same for mine, which should land in Newark tomorrow morning around the same time as yours did this morning (fingers crossed).

FedEx was not able to do this for my Smart Cover, but I don't think they were under the gun as much as they are with my iPad (supposed to be delivered tomorrow by 4:30 pm).

I have the same scan on one of my units and know for a fact that it missed all of yesterday's outbound Anchorage flights. It's still in Alaska. Other units of mine breezed through Anchorage, made the flights, and were delivered in the NYC area by noon today.

Given the recent Fedex flight patterns, it should be no problem to have a unit delivered in Philly tomorrow IF it makes it onto one of the Anchorage to Memphis flights that are likely to occur in the 3:30-4:00 pm AKDT range.

Ya so, mine was supposed to be delivered today 3-24-2011 by 4:30pm and it's not here. Another co-worker, who ordered an hour before I did received his today. Yesterday his was stuck in Hong Kong and mine was in Alaska. Then his went straight to Memphis and some how mine went to Indy, even though it was shipped ahead of his. His was delivered a day ahead of when his was scheduled to and mine was will now be a day late! I'm in Florida by the way

Here is the best story! My friend in Florida ordered his from Apple and it got stuck in Alaska - no surprise. But, when the box arrived at his home it was EMPTY. Just a brown box with the supports for the iPad! He called Apple and they told him he had to wait 4-5 weeks. So, he got his money back and scored one at Best Buy! Imagine waiting all this time and opening an EMPTY brown box! Enjoy your new iPads!

There's some breaking news for those of us with units that were delayed in Anchorage. Fedex has started announcing its scheduled outbound flights for the day. So far, there are three flights scheduled for Memphis, Newark, and Indianapolis, departure in the 3-4 pm AKDT range. At least one additional Fedex plane from the Far East is on the ground in Anchorage and would normally continue on to Memphis. And if volume is sufficiently high, Fedex may scedule a special third flight to Memphis (judging from the pattern of the last couple of days).

If your unit ends up on one of these flights, the Fedex trackers should show some sign of this around 8-9 pm EST. Updating has been a bit erratic in its timing, though. Sometimes the scanned data hits the Internet in minutes, in other cases it seems to take 1-2 hours.

If your unit makes it onto one of these flights, and the final destination is in a metropolitan area, then there is a strong chance you will have a Friday delivery. No guarantees, however.

I hope this helps.

NOTE: The minimum recommended time for filing a flight plan is one hour before departure. Fedex appears to be playing its flight planning and announcements very close to this minimum. Nothing wrong in that, just something to consider in trying to track flights.

In my experience, Fedex packages must be on the trucks no later than 8-9 am or they're likely to be lagged to the next day. Unless something is tagged for expedited delivery, Fedex is unlikely to rejigger their delivery truck routing for a package that can't be put on a truck before noon, such as the case with yours.

Like you, I had a friend who ordered after me and got hers before me. Anchorage has been a choke point. Hers made it through. Mine didn't. It's just like a traffic jam. When the person in the lane next to us seems to get all the breaks and moves ahead, it can be very frustrating. But that's the nature of jams (I could explain this better in terms of wave mechanics and differential equations, but this may not be the best venue for that).

Fedex has just officially added a second Anchorage-Memphis flight for this afternoon, as expected.

The flight trackers are now showing a total of five Fedex flights outbound from Anchorage for the 3-4 pm AKDT time frame: two to Memphis, two to Indianapolis, and one to Newark. I hoping that this will resolve the logjam in Anchorage for good. They're probably hoping the same.

Six flights. Fedex will also have a flight outbound to Ft. Worth. Actually, the schedule shows four Fedex flights in a five-minute period around 4 pm AKDT. That probably isn't possible physically, but it does appear that they're determined to clear out the Anchorage backlog before the weekend.

The Fedex flights have started rolling out of Anchorage. FDX94 departed at 2:56 pm AKDT for Memphis (with my iPad, fortunately--it had been held at a sorting dock for 24 hours). It took 10 minutes for the scan to hit the Yahoo/Fedex tracker (but nothing has hit the regular Fedex tracker yet).

With a total of six outbound flights over a 70-minute period, it seems very likely that anything cleared for delivery prior to 1:30 pm AKDT today will make it out of Alaska. As I mentioned earlier, those in metropolitan areas who have iPads on these flights have a strong chance of a Friday delivery.

The scans on this should be available NLT 9 pm EST. Check both the Yahoo and the regular Fedex trackers, since it's easier to get a good feel for the actual data that way.
