I'm picturing the movie castaway... there's Tom Hanks walking down the beach and several thousand white boxes labled iPad washing up on the beach and he's trying to collect them all!
nice! this bodes well for me! i ordered 11AM Sat via a phone rep! i was freaked out by all the contract talk on AT&T's website, but you obviously dont have to sign a 2 year contract etc! my confirmation # that I got my rep is still not working on the site's order status. The AT&T phone sales rep said I should have it by Monday, if not to call. He also gave me my iPad phone #, so i doubt he was lying, but i just want to be able to check it out online! i hope i get it this week!!!

I had a 4:12AM Eastern order time. Reading these forums though it is clear, even among people who ordered the same thing, exact order time doesn't matter. Just assumed it would be first come first serve. Also found out adding or removing an engraving will cancel and resubmit your order, but the site allows you to change the engraving without resubmitting the order. Makes me think the time between engraving and shipping, or prepared to ship status, is pretty tight.

I ordered a 64gb 3g Verizon at 7:15 EST, (estimated ship, 5-7 days). Just under 24 hours ago the order details changed to Prepared for shipping. Does anyone's order status say "Shipped" yet, that got an estimated ship time of 5-7 days?

Well since there is obviously no apparent rhyme or reason as to why later orders ship earlier and vice versa, I'm done fretting about it. Just checked and the verizon 32gb black ipad still hasn't moved to prepared to ship. my cover has shipped. Not looking again until tomorrow.
not saying that the experience will be the same... but i ordered an engraved ipod touch last october 23rd... it shipped on october 26th from china and i received it on the 28th in rhode island.
pretty quick. so i'm hoping that since i ordered on friday the 11th. it might ship on monday the 14th, and i'd get it by thursday the 17th. that'd be cool. if all that happens... then apple has done a great job.

It's odd that all of us AT&T users are the ones getting boned in this...wasn't AT&T Apple's first and only love until just recently? Yet we are the only ones who have iPads that aren't even prepared for shipment?

If you're going to use that metaphor, I'd say it was more like an arranged marriage with an expiration date on the exclusivity clause, and now that it's over, Apple has decided they'd like to try one of these open marriages they've been hearing so much about. And now, AT&T is the jilted spouse watching fishing on TV and eating a big bag of tortilla chips without anything to dip them in.
I used the FedEx tracking to see what time departure it would be on. Most shipments to the US go through Anchorage (from my experience). They then have to clear customs. I'm on the east coast so all my Apple shipments generally go from Anchorage to (Memphis or Newark) to Dulles.
Yea..my wife thinks I'm nuts. I think it's fun.
Ok so I won't be able to really do anything until it hits Alaska.... hmmm I wonder if Sarah Palin can see my iPad from her house?

The only planes in the world that could make it from Hong Kong to Memphis, according to about 15 minutes of quick research, are the Airbus A380 (In fact it would be sputtering the last of it's fuel fumes as it landed) and i think that is totally unloaded weight, and no doubt some military planes could go that distance and further.
It's probably true (though unfortunate) that it goes to Alaska first, which sucks, because my ipad is heading straight to south carolina.. quite a distance away

Just looked at boeing 777's, there are one or two special models which could indeed make the trip. I know FedEx has 777's but who knows if they have one of the few variants to make the 8000m trip. And even if they did, who knows if it's one that is picking up our iPads.
