Keep the old one

Two things -
1) I'm in Washington DC and received mine this AM. No worries, buds, yours will come.
2) My old one is happily sitting in a powerstrip in my bedroom so I can charge on my bedside table and I have no reason to move it. Now I have this new adapter for my office or my travel bag. Why would I possibly want to send Apple the old one? How could they enforce it?

I am already thinking of ways I can reuse this nice box they gave me!

Box

Yeah, I thought the box size was too big too, but consider these points:

-The box has to be big enough for the return label
-The box is not custom made for the adapter, it's a generic size for various service part shipments and returns.
-In addition to begin used twice (once to you and once back to Apple) It will probably be reused multiple times.

I used to work for an apple dealer back in the early 90's and they used this same sized box for many small service parts. Kind of amazed the same dimension is still being used this much later.

Don't forget there are concerns with regard to how the shipper packs... as a former UPS guy boxes that are a standard size make for easy packing.

WOW! That's a lot of packaging!

I think I'll just exchange next time I'm at a store.

Got mine today. Vancouver, BC. What I'm wondering is how Apple would even know who sent each adapter back? The label for sending the old one back doesnt have anything on it about my name or return address...

There is a serial # on the usb adapter but it seems like a hell of a lot of work to enter those manually just to find out who sent theirs back...

Bought my 3G at Best Buy last week. They had stock of the new adapters with the green dot and they switched it out before I left the store. Done...

Didn't get mine!

"ordered" mine when they first announced it, still nothing,

Im in NJ

I ordered mine the same day of the recall and I live in the New York Metro area. Still don't have mine. Maybe in my area DHL comes around 4 PM like UPS and FedEx. Just wait a couple of hours and it might come in.

For what it's worth, I just got off the phone with Apple Care. I had already went on-line and requested a replacement for the adaptor that came with my iPhone. But I had also purchased an adaptor as a stand-alone accessory. You can't make an on-line request when you purchased one as an accessory. You have to call Apple Care.

When I called them, they asked for my credit card number. I asked to speak to a supervisor and then politely asked him why. He said customers would be charged if they didn't return the old one. He said that a credit card was already tied to my purchase of the iPhone, but they didn't have a record of a credit card when I purchased the extra adaptor as a stand-alone accessory. (I did use a credit card for that purchase and I had even given him my Apple Order number so they could reference it if needed...so I found this a little strange) He assured me that Apple would charge anyone that chooses not to return the adaptor.

I've intended to return both of them all along. I just wanted to ask the question to a supervisor to find out what is going on and then report back to here. Take this for what it's worth...

I came home yesterday and saw black foam everywhere and ripped up box on the floor. I have kids so i didn't think much of it. An hour later, I found a random 3G USB charger....with a green dot  It was my poor replacement plug.

Thanks kids.

I doubt they would come after you, but apple wants those plugs back to eliminate any liability. They are, after all, recalled.

Interestingly enough, the shipping label is tied to the particular name i use for my iTunes account....so i take it they are going to use my itunes billing information if they dont get it back...since the agreement is any transaction with apple uses stored credit card/billing information.

They technically cannot go back 0-6 months and bill your original credit card though on the iphone transaction. If they did, it is against their processor agreement, and it can be easily reversed. Much like the rental car company dinging you a deductible without your knowledge after returning a slightly dented car.

Is anyone else having trouble returning their old charger?

I called DHL to schedule a pick up and they say they do not service my area. I am currently on hold with Apple to make sure I do not get charged.

My return slip discretely says to call UPS for return

I bought three iPhones in July, filled out the online replacement form three different times for three different iPhones serial numbers and... received ONE replacement today.

I suspect that they are somewhat serious (or at least acting like it) about sending them back as they don't want to see the old ones on Ebay and the lawsuits (or bad press) resulting from people getting shocked.

that's a HUGE box

good to see Apple doing the right thing and giving the consumer as much material to recycle as possible

I called AppleCare and told them that my old one broke and I "threw it away" before the recall "wink, wink;)" and they believed me. They called up a local Apple Store in my area and said I could get a new one free of charge on October 10th. Now I have 2! :D

And you are PROUD of yourself? Pretty sad.

What time of day did it arrive? The only reason I've been hesitant about filling out the online form is that they say they ship them in the delivery trucks during business hours and require a signature. I can't be there from 8 to 3 because of school.

I didn't have to sign for mine.
