Are they serious with that box? How much is that costing us? Hey Apple, ever heard of a bubble mailer?

Way to go Apple, deliver it in a waste of space. For a second I thought Apple sent me air.

I reckon this does nothing to help the environment. I hate the huge ammount of packaging people use to sent the smallest things. Its not like the thing will break if less foam was used!

These types of things really annoy me! Apple is normally good for packaging, minimal....

usb extender on adapter

Does anyone know if you can use a usb extender cable on this adapter to make it longer since it is so short? I cant use it when its plugged into the wall socket on the floor..i keep pulling out the plug by mistake.
thanks

i just got off the phone with AppleCare and the lady said that i did not have to return the "defective" adapter because it was a recall and they don't seriously enforce the non-return fee. i don't really know whether to believe it or not.

None yet.

I live in NJ right outside of Philly and I have no replacement yet. I will keep you guys posted when I get it with any info I can help with.

Interesting. I made an earlier post talking about the extra USB adaptor I had purchased and how Apple Care took my credit card info in case I didn't return it. Now I just received an email and it clearly states that they will charge my credit card $29 if I don't return it.

I've intended to return it all along. But if I wasn't, I certainly would think twice about it now!

I just saved $30. So yes I am proud of myself.
And that sentence doesn't make sense. "PROUD or yourself"

You saved $30?
You didn't save anything since it was a defective product. If anything it's more like you stole $30.
Though, it's definitely not worth $30 for apple.
I think that's what he's talking about, your skewed morals.

What a waste!

Whats up with the box?

Talk about a waste..bit of an over kill if you ask me.

Way to go Apple.

So apple doesn't get sued if one breaks and a charge of electricity burns down your house?

You liberal idiots complaining about the amount of packaging. They are using packaging that they use for everything else instead of buying additional packaging especially for this unit. So in essence they ARE being green by using stock packaging instead of ordering MORE packaging.

Besides if they did order different packaging you would wait even longer for the packaging material to arrive to Apple before they could send out the replacements.

If they use too much packaging you moron complain if they just pop it in an envelope and it gets damaged you would complain.

You can please some of the people some of the time but can't please all of the people all of the time.

I agree mocciat. I don't understand what everyone is complaining about. Like you said, Apple uses boxes that they already have. Adaptor comes to your house. You take the new one out and put the old one in. Same box goes back to Apple. Apple re-utilizes it for something else.

Doesn't seem wasteful to me. But some people around here like to complain about everything. They must be Microsoft lovers! :D

I'm in S. Korea now, with a Canadian-purchased iPhone. I wonder how (or if) this would work for me. I don't see the option on their replacement request site.

When I was working in the industry, we had to use large boxes when posting tiny items. Reason being such a small object won't get lost in the post. However I'm not sure whether it applies in this case. Could do.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

Apple sends something put early. Wow! I'm amazed.

Is this only for chargers that came with the phone? What about the extra one I bought? It does not have an associated iPhone serial number.

does anyone have pictures of the 1st gen adapter next to the 3g adapter? the original iphone's was nice because the prongs folded down and didn't poke anything or get bent. the 3g prongs don't fold away, do they?

Yes, if it is one of those small ones (like the one that came with the 3G) and it doesn't have a green dot on it

And no, the prongs don't fold on the one included with the 3G

Failure of logic. ...big time.
By having multiple sizes they use less materials and fewer large packages which eventually get used for something else. Being green means using less packaging. Period. And they aren't using PCR cardboard anyway.
Apple can afford to stock multiple size packaging, and they have it in stock. Smaller items don't ship in such large packages. I've received plenty of things from apple in smaller boxes than that.

I think the point was:

Apple is using materials that they had laying around, as opposed to buying more materials solely to appear green
