Wow. Can't believe that I didn't think of that. What about they make a shiny blackbook (I HATE MATTE), with red keys, trackpad and apple light.

They'd only go and ruin it by having Nobo and the rest of U2 put their signatures all over it.

Imac, no.
Macbook, in a deep, dark red (think SIG metal water bottles), yes. Could even upcharge. But hard to do that with present pricing since already paying $200 more for black. Not many prospective blackbook users would want to pay over $200 for red, and whitebook buyers probably wouldn't either. And pricing red less than blackbook would cut into blackbook sales (and with part of that bump going to charity, so even more painful). Apple needs to make the blackbook unique--something you can't get to by upgrading a white like you can now. Then make the red a $50-100 option over the white, with the bump going to charity. Wouldn't cut into blackbook sales and might even increase due to power bump. Wouldn't hurt whitebook profit since red an upcharge. Red a socially conscious statement would increase overall sales. Everyone wins.

Maybe it could just be a MacBook or MacBook Pro with a red apple logo. Could become a bit of a collector's item, and would be cheaper for Apple to do than creating all new shells in red (and arguably less ugly, and less like a red PC laptop).

Those look awesome. It makes me want to take my PB apart and make it happen!

Well it looks good on the black MacBook. Not so much on the MacBook Pro. It it was the old TiPowerbooks they could have put a deep Glossy Red Paint along the borders that would have looked good (and perhaps lasted longer) They may be able to use Red LED in the MBP keyboard for a red evil glow.

Anyone else feel ill that we're debating whether or not to release special edition products to help aids patients based solely on how they'd look?

The 965 mobile chipset won't be released until next year, so GMA X3000 isn't going to happen.

I wouldn't doubt the release, but would have a discussion about how it would look if I worked at Apple.

As for the design: no white keys. I say go for the white Apple logo, black interior (the matte part on white MacBooks) and red exterior, keys, and touchpad button (the glossy parts on white MacBooks).

Not at all. The better it's done, the greater the benefit.

i know we are talkin red here but couldn't they sell mini... imean nano colored macbooks. i made a blue one when i was making macboo and thought it looked sweet. red is good for the cause blue is good for the walllet.

 Red is despicable...no politics on the Macs please...keep them how they are...even most of the apples are red ones...no more blood shed please...

You're joking right? Red is just a color... some people say it also means love, or power or beauty. however... to apple, Red is a color. To Bono and the AIDS fight, it is a the color for awareness... as pink is to breast cancer.

This is the perfect excuse to experiment with color...

Apple can make a bunch of "Red" products and if they don't sell well, the won't get blamed for design issue. Also, who said "Red" products have to be Red, or at least all read. Loak at the Gap and Armani. Taking the black macBook, adding some red accents, then people might feel better about spending the extra $150 over a similar white, if they knew, say $50, was going to Africa. It could be a big win/win, plus apple needs the "goodwill" right now.

in case you didnt notice
the red system means the manufacturer donates
not the customer
red macbook good for the world, blue macbook good for apple's wallet not the consumer. DERp!!!!

Maybe the best idea would be an apple (RED) sleeve for their laptops with a white Apple logo on it. They could push it either at the apple stores (kinda like they push applecare, "hey it protects the computer and half the cost goes to charity") or through the online store. That way, people who aren't sure they want to look at RED surrounding their computer screens all day while they work could still get one.

Didn't someone crack open their MBP display and put in an insert to make their apple light a frosted classic logo? If they could do that, then you can do a red logo for the price of the warranty!

Like iMacs after they were introduced...team with Lance (yellow), Breast Cancer (Pink), AIDs in Africa (Red).

Whatever your charity, Apple will have a paint job for you.
