Sounds like the plan is working...

Create a rumors to make Apple Fans excited in WWDC... Then drop those rumors b4 the events...
Booms Their expectation! And they will start to hate Apple now... Bwahahaha! "evil laugh"

Given that the ATV3 is still showing "in stock," that means that either the ATV3 will still be available when ATV4 is released or the ATV4 is delayed.

I could see Apple doing the ATV3 at $39, and the ATV4 with Siri/remote/voice/4k at $79.

Rumors seem to imply that the following are lost from WWDC:

1. New ATV
:
.

A rumor from a reliable source, perhaps, but, what do we really know? Something that might have been announced might be delayed. This is different from any other year how? We really won't know until we see it.
Sometimes there are blockbuster announcements, sometimes not.

Sorry Macrumors, but you have it all wrong.
Apple is not ready to introduce its streaming TV service because of agreements with providers.

This has nothing to do with the AppleTV hardware.
Even if the hardware wasn't ready for next week, since when does the Mac, Watch, IPhone have to be ready in order to announce it?

The set top box and development kit will be introduced so that developers can start putting some apps together for when the box will go on sale.

So, Yes! There is something to look forward to for next week.

Maybe Cook will take the stage and announce another $30 price cut.

"Sorry everybody we are too busy focusing on watch straps, maybe next year, if we can squeeze in time while working on the Apple car"

This is beyond frustrating, like a carrot on a stick. I guess they will not launch this thing until they have their tv/cable plan in place and ready to go.

We are never going to see an update of this box.

Seriously, Apple? You have had since 2012 to get something out there. This is your job. Get to it.

What is it that everyone wants this (not mentioned by Apple) new box to do?
I'd like it to record videos, but Apple won't do that.
I'd like it play videos from an external hard drive (or my network), but Apple won't do that.
I'd like it to use an antenna and be my guide, hmm... Apple might do that (but I doubt it).

We know it can stream video and decode video and allow subscriptions (HBO, Netflix).
So that means it'll handle it if they get contracts for the network streams they can charge for a subscription service, that part is done.

So we're talking apps, we don't know that the current box won't do that, do we? We just know they've chosen not to in the mean time. Obviously it won't store as many apps as a new unit might, but it sure seems like it could easily store a few.

FYI, I totally think the box in the middle of the WWDC logo looks like an AppleTV and how could it not be on purpose? I can't believe it's by accident and no one at Apple noticed it...

Gary

I miss the old AppleTV with the hard drive (or at least a decent amount of flash memory) that'll store my movies and music without needing to stream at the time of watching (or so it'll download slowly over the net but playback with it's ready). I think that would really help the people not in the city cut the cord...

What do agreements and providers have to do with releasing a new version of Apple TV? Isn't the software upgradable? When the A & P is completed, push an update with new features. Why wait to release an otherwise ready product?

What's the point of an Apple TV box? The entire service is streamed. So unless they give us something scary good - which you know they aren't then they might as just provide a dumb streaming stick and call it a day. Any new ATV box you know isn't going to have any ports anyway.

Apple needs to get a product out there and stop stalling. They need to break up the Apple TV into smaller updates.

WWDC just became a rather dull event. Software and the Apple Watch again ?
Won't be rushing home from work for this one. Maybe in September.

That's exactly why this rumor is wrong.
Look for a new AppleTV next week.

It's better to delay it than release buggy product as iOS 8 was or preview and promise the release but then miss the deadline as it was with Watch.

This is really bad news. Just postpone WWDC. The OS Releases are suppose to be mostly internal stuff with no major new features. This was to be year of Apple TV with App Store. This has to be because they still can not get the Broadcast Networks on board. Surely it can not be they are still working on the Hardware. Right?

so would this mean Apple will have no hardware to show off :( at this rate all we are going to see is IOS 9 and OSX update, they have already updated the Mac's so I can't see what else they could show off hardware wise.
How about waiting until WWDC to see what they truly will show. That's what I hate about these rumor sites. Not that the information may be incorrect but there are so many people that will take this information as law rather than seeing for themselves. Thank goodness I'm smart enough to hold on and not jump to conclusions.

Apple seems to be behind on a lot of refreshes these days... I'm also thinking it is only going to get worse over time.

Go ahead, gloss over this with snide, sarcastic remarks about how Apple naysayers are panicking...

Yes and I just wish the members here would treat it as a "rumor" site rather than getting all pissed off at Apple for something that hasn't even been proven. Let alone they didn't not put the hype. Media sites such as MR put out the hype.
The NYT? A trustworthy entity looking to make money any way they can, even if means publishing half truths. LOL.

You haven't been an Apple customer for very long have you?

I could care less about 10.11 or iOS 9. The way Apple is going with its operating systems, they are bound to break more than they are worth. Hell, 10.10 is by most accounts still FUBAR.
