It's the same GPU version Apple uses (HD530 vs HD630), the 2016 models don't use Iris Pro.

Yes, the dual core models use Intel Iris

Forgot to mention that quad cores also take more time to get released.
That CPU was released in 2017 1st quarter (according to Intel's website). It was not available at the time of the latest MacBook Pro upgrade

Another major bummer about the 2016 is that it is marginal on 5k. It has some stuttering in video playback of 5k. I imagine the upgraded graphics will handle it as intended.

Hmm. That's not what I've read:

Here's another, calling the performance "buttery smooth" when cutting 5k video in FCPX:

So, perhaps you are using that typically sloppily-coded, dog of a program, Premier?

That's not Apple's fault.

I tried to spec one out to compare the price but currently Dell only offers 8GB of RAM - no upgrade but you can do it yourself... LOL Dell FAIL

Slow as **** SSD compared with Apple (they use an Apple-designed, custom SSD controller), and NON low-power RAM.

Enjoy your 2 hour battery life. Read some of the XPS forums if you don't believe me...

Lol. You have been living under a rock.

NVidia Can't drive enough displays to suit Apple.

That's why Apple is using AMD.

I believe there is a MR article about this from a couple of months ago.

To help show why Nvidia is still viable... some developers, like me, are not using AMD or Nvidia to drive multiple displays, but instead are using them to do fast processing via OpenCL or CUDA. CUDA may not be an open standard, but it's currently the most popular in the industry especial for AI (e.g. autonomous driving). CUDA is only supported on Nvidia chips. This is a pro level type of development, and Apple has labeled it as a pro laptop. Something to think about.

They ARE updating the rest of the line, now that Intel has released the CPUs that make sense to do that.

They already make a good computer. You just don't want to see it.

If the computer doesn't match your needs, it is not "good enough".

I passed on the MBP 2016 because it didn't meet my needs, and therefore, Not Good Enough.

All depends on your perspective ;-)

Great news - although I'm sure someone will complain they just bought a new one.

Apple really can't win here. Don't refresh enough - complain. Refresh yearly - complain.

when's the last time a desktop was updated ??

It would fix all the criticism regarding performance but there's a slim chance it will happen.
Having said that, there were Nvidia job listings for working on Mac hardware recently so I really hope they switch back. Nvidia would have to beat AMD on thermals though, and v is en then it would still cost Apple a lot more.
Nope. GTX 1050 laptop version has a TDP of 50W, and is roughly 20% better than the Radeon Pro 460 in the current MBP. Radeon Pro 460 has the TDP of 35W.

So what can you do with CUDA that you can't with OpenCL?

And don't NVidia drivers support OpenCL, too? I thought I saw that they did...

This was playing back a 5k youtube video in chrome at the apple store on the LG 5k from a tbMBP 16/3.1/1TB
YouTube. Gotcha...

In a crowded Apple Store, with who-knows how much competing network traffic. In a mall with who-knows what kind of internet service.

And then there's Chrome...

Right. Good benchmark (rolls eyes).

NO computer is going to meet EVERYONE's needs.

So, what's your point, exactly?
