The GPU should bring a good bump to speed, and handling the 5k UF monitor extra silky smooth.

That bump is going to be almost zero. These are the same iGPU's that were with Skylake. The iGPU for the 15-inch is going to be underpowered again. As for dGPU we don't know what the upgrade will bring.

If you require the absolute, most bleeding edge specifications, then you are clearly not the target market for any MacBook Pro. The "Pro" label is marketing, i.e., there is not some universal mandate that "Pro" labeled devices must cater to your subjective requirements. There are individuals that prefer a balance between specs, design, and UX.

There are "Kaby Lake" laptops--with 32GB after all the up-charges, and with all the design compromises--that you can go buy at any time. Clearly, other manufacturers compete on specs because, to some, they can't meaningfully compete on the other factors.

I think you're right. Between battery, CPU, and graphics, I think the 2016 is going to end up looking like a stinker in the context of what is released this year.

Especially because I think they put pricing on the 2016 so high to protect pricing on this next year's model. Not because the 2016's were worth that.

Another major bummer about the 2016 is that it is marginal on 5k. It has some stuttering in video playback of 5k. I imagine the upgraded graphics will handle it as intended.

I probably can get Apple to take back the 2016 tbmbp 13" I have still, since I've been in ongoing discussions with them about the battery.

However, I need a computer now. So I guess I'll keep this until early / mid next year, sell it and try to recoup as much as possible and then upgrade again.

Agreed.

Unless you absolutely had to have one, 2017 will make those that bought new in 2016 look like they'd made a big mistake.

Please use a nvidia 1050 at least
It would fix all the criticism regarding performance but there's a slim chance it will happen.
Having said that, there were Nvidia job listings for working on Mac hardware recently so I really hope they switch back. Nvidia would have to beat AMD on thermals though, and v is en then it would still cost Apple a lot more.

About the pricing and specs, remember that the difference between touchbar and non-touchbar models isn't just the touchbar. Unless you're doing BTO, you also get a spec bump for your extra cash.

Voting with my dollars - WILL NOT BUY.

Need USB ports and accessibility.. not 20 adapters so apple can make side $

Usually when someone insults & corrects a spelling mistake I don't reply for a number of reasons but in this case all I'll say is that I haven't left Apple, Apple left me.

You only registered 4 months ago. How could Apple already leave you? Tell me about it, I'll listen.

If you look around a little at spec-peered machines, you will find the 2016 MBPs really aren't out of line with most major brands.
Not really.....
You could say that before, but the competition has improved while Apple have increased their prices. However with the price reduction this year and great improvements, I think it will be true by the end of this year.

For me personally, I won't be looking at another Mac until Icelake or Tigerlake. Right now, I wondering if I should go for an iPad Pro 2 or SurfaceBook 2 to tide me over until 2020. Love my current Broadwell, 2015 MBP. Superfast!

Well, they should stop being so inconsistent. Either update yearly or update every fifty years, otherwise people can't plan accordingly.

You mean when they are dependent on Intel's schedule of developing, releasing and producing chips they should lock into some artificial product schedule?

You mean when they are developing their own new technology for their line and are dependent on their own uncertain research and development success schedule and subsequent myriad of suppliers being able to produce and manufacture tens of millions of items, they should lock into some artificial product schedule?

No tech manufacture can follow your recommendation. Besides, the vast majority of consumers understand that there will always be a better model down the road; that's simply how technology works; thus they have learned to plan based more on their budget and what is available when they need something, or more importantly, they wait until there is a compelling reason to update. Buying new equipment simply because of a bump in specs was common over a decade ago because of the huge performance boosts. Now, most spec bumps are nice, but far from the huge incentive they used to be.

Foist mediocre & underspec'd machines that don't rise to the level a pro machine - complain.

Charge next year's prices for two-year old spec's - complain....
I don't know where you get this; but the 2016 MBPs, especially the 15" models, whip ALL over the 2015 equivalents, and most other similar machines, because Apple has fixed the Thermal Throttling issues that Apple (and most if not all other mfgs.) had before Skylake.

Take a look at this for some comparisons doing video stuff between the 2015 and 2016 MBP, and tell me the 2016 is "mediocre and underspeced".

BTW, the SSD alone is MORE THAN TWICE AS FAST in the 2016 as in the 2015...

http://appleinsider.com/articles/16...pro-confirm-apples-claims-of-fastest-ever-ssd

Now, combine that with 80 Gbps of multifunctional I/O bandwidth, and I just can't justify your "mediocre and underspec'd" [sic] allegation.

A touchbar is a no go for me, as is a low performance model.
Have you ever Tried the TouchBar?
