What is with the bag?

It came a day after I received my refurb last week.

I don't know, but it's the most expensive plastic bag I've ever bought!

I even asked my gf last night... there's instructions on activation.... so how do you activate a bag?

Yeah, my first experience with AT&T in this order has not been good at all. I am going to reverse the charges on my credit card if they do not let me cancel the order. I am going to buy a new iPhone as the extra money is worth it compared to having to deal with this situation, plus I need the iPhone before vacation which does not look like it is happening with this order.

I have talked to 7 different reps from the online order store, 5 supervisors from the online order store and 1 rep and 1 supervisor from customer service: the order cannot be cancelled. We have no recourse whatsoever. They told me I'll receive an e-mail when the order ships. That literally could be a month from now or longer. They have no idea and no solutions.

I feel bad my purchase went so smoothly, I wonder after reading the posts why my experience is so drastic than most others.

When did you order yours? I just got off the phone with a CS and they said there was a problem with orders placed on the 21st and that we will all get emails when the issue is resolved.

Possibly because you bought from another batch or if you bought from the 5/21 batch, then I am glad someone's order went well.

On a side note, does anyone know if the brick and mortar Apple stores still stock iPhones unlike the online Apple store?

What I don't understand is IF they are indeed backordered what in the world are you dropping to the warehouse that you can't cancel an order? The best bet for anyone at this point who truly wants to cancel is to contact your CC and explain this to them. I've NEVER heard of a company telling you that we're backordered, but you can't get your money back because we've dropped your order to the warehouse

LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE!! I have heard the expediting schpeel since FRIDAY! LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE!

WHAT OTHER LIES HAVE BEEN TOLD? PLEASE, SHARE YOUR STORIES! LET'S GET A GOOD GROUP OF THEM BEFORE WE CALL CLARK HOWARD.

That would be a local call for me to Clark Howard, class action suit anyone??? Not being able to cancel for non-delivery when the misleading "Available" was dangled on the Web site is NUTS!
They likely had a legal "out" in the fine print that nobody reads....

I thought about that when I received the bag yesterday. I paid for an Iphone and got a bag, with no explanation why. A simple email/letter that states the backorder would've been sufficient. But NO, they send you a bag to wipe your ass after pwning you!

Buy.com used to do that exact thing... "you can't cancel this backordered/out-of-stock order because we've already sent the order to our drop shipment supplier". Maybe they still do, I haven't used them in years. However, once you threatened to contest the charge with your CC company the "uncancelable" order would be canceled within hours.

There's only 4 or 5 people who are posting now in this thread, including me, who are complaining about this topic. What happened to everyone else??? Did they get their phones already and are too busy playing with it??

Here's one thing I will say--I will never order from AT&T again. I should have just bought iPhone from Apple...$250 tempted me away. I had sworn I'd wait for the 3g version but at that price I said ehh what the heck I'll buy it, use it and then give it to my wife in a few months and buy a 3g. BIG BIG BIG mistake and I regret it. I've had nothing but great experiences when ordering direct from Apple. From AT&T--not so much.

At least you're only $250 out. I asked my gf to order an 8gb and a friend of mine to order a 16gb. So I'm over $600 out, with two doggie bags to show for.

Well the weird thing is that I'm not really out anything because the charge was gone from my credit card after 3 days but they still have my information and I know I will be charged as soon as they get their act together, which at this pace could be in 2011, right about the time the 4g iPhone comes out.

Got my bag yesterday. I must say, after hearing all the people talk previously about getting their perfect iphones instantly after ordering, this is a little disappointing. Fortunately I don't need it in a hurry, but it would be nice to be able to expect it by Christmas.

At least you got a bag. I haven't gotten anything.

So if you get a bag, does that mean that you will eventually get an iphone? I haven't gotten even a bag yet. I am about to contact CC company to talk ask them what I can do about it. I am tired of the runaround. The class action lawsuit does sound real good about now. But I am having a wait and see attitude. If I don't get it by next week I will seriously think about threatening AT&T.
If what I have heard and seen from others. They over sold the product without having enough product to sell. That sounds a bit illegal doesn't it? They should allow us to cancel if we want to.

Well I told them I needed the iPhone before vacation (which is true) and how I had not received it. They canceled the order, no questions asked. I received an email confirming that my order had been canceled. So I am glad of that since I heard everyone else was told no canceling and had to reverse the charge on their cc.

After that, I went to a brick and mortar AT&T store and bought the 16 GB iPhone new. It is a higher price, but it is better than waiting for something that I do not know when it is coming and I am in need of one for vacation and since there is a 14 day return policy, I can take the 10% restocking fee if the new iPhone is released on the 9th.

I'm another 5/21 16G refurb orderer without anything from AT&T (including the stupid bag). My second call tonight (the first was dropped during a transfer) provided some interesting, if uninspiring, answers from Shawn. After not allowing me to cancel my order and providing the same lines that others have heard before, he claims that the 14 day return period does not start until the iphone is shipped. He also claims that I will only be assessed the 10% restock fee if I open the cellophane wrapper on the iphone refurb box. I was highly skeptical of this answer and he put me on hold to verify. Before I unleash the AMEX fraud squad on them to cancel my unfilled order, can anyone tell me if the refurbs even come wrapped in cellophane? Shawn's and AT&T's diminishing credibility are at stake.

Okay just got off the phone with CS. And the answer to basically all of the questions were "We just don't know." Okay well hun you SHOULD know. I ordered and iPhone a week ago and it still isn't here. You're supid website sold me a phone you don't have. I got a bag to activate a phone that I DON'T have. The only thing that she said that was helpful to me was that she would happily cancel my order. Of course I had to start thinking and said i would wait 2 more days and see if anything has changed. I honestly don't know what to do. Should I just cancel it...because seriously not knowing when the phone will come just sucks. I was thinking let the 3g come out and if they still have no idea when they will ship and i can afford that one then im just gonna go for that. This is the worsttttttttttt. :(

If my "order" ever shows, up I will take the unopened, (hermeticaly sealed in a mayonase jar on Funk and Wagenels porch) iPhone back to the local AT&T store for a FULL refund, in the meantime, I'll keep using my BB Curve until the new iPhone is available - within two weeks!!
